Pictures are worth a thousand words.  Jim summed it up with the 2 types of mounts.  Post up pictures and we will see what we can do to help you.

It is pretty cool what you can do when you play with wave forms etc.  I find that I use the pulse very little in my day to day welding.  It can be very useful if you don't have a foot pedal or some form of control when your working on thin stuff!

there will be zero comparison between those two engines!  I can't really think of any tools needed other than the normal tools one has around the shop.  Maybe the gear puller for the end of the crank on the PTO end.  I use a harmonic balancer puller to pop the mag off.
Pretty sure Bob has rebuilt a few using the seadoo pistons that rotax rick uses.  There are those in the group that say if you use anything other than genuine rotax then you must be soft in the head.. I am not one of those people.  Rarely do I use anything from the OEM on anything I own.
Hit up AKflyerbob on here.  I am pretty sure he will have the part numbers and suppliers for you on the parts that he uses.  Yes, I will fly behind said parts with my kids in the plane.

reseal is easy.  Like Larry said, I would really look over those bearings on the bottom end.  New seals and bearings on the piston wrist pins.  Get the bearing retainers, they are cheap.  Yes you can use a socket but at the price of the retainer, its kind of dumb to not pick up a couple of them when your getting ready for the tear down (if your doing it yourself).  The rotax manual is posted on this site and the DVD deep inside your rotax is a good one for those who are doing the first engine tear down.
I have done several using the winderosa gasket sets without any issues.  Bob has done several engines as well using them.  Rotax anything is stupidly over priced.
No need to replace electronic parts unless there is obvious damage to them.

Did it myself a few times.  New crank and pistons / rings. Rebuild RV shaft.  new seals.  It is not that tough and not that expensive.  Mike everything and if tolerances are still good put it back together.  300 hr TBO is ultra conservative.  Of course, it also helps to know how the engine has been run during those hours and if it was ever overheated etc.

Good looking rig.  I am pushing 200K on mine and so far so good.  Nothing major besides wheel bearings and brakes.  Tranny is still going strong and that amazes me as I pull my 24' and 28' boat and 26' enclosed trailer with it regularly.  Airbags in the back to keep the truck level.  I have abused it and the kid wrecked it twice, but mechanically she has held up AWESOME!  I am getting nervous on the high mileage and the things I haul with it so I know in the near future I am going to have to get used to a truck payment again.

For the record, no the truck never got stuck.  It was pretty light and fluffy snow at this point (it was 19 degrees)  The next day would have been a different story when it warmed up and started raining.  Good old #29 posted a pic of his bird tied down out at the airport and you can see the snow is pretty much all gone except for where it was plowed into a pile.  Pretty damn strange weather we are having again this year.

You see the word on the side of that truck?  That there is chevy Silverado.  The only thing that truck gets buried in is women, when ya drive one of these they just throw themselves at ya.  That is not a gas tank in the back of that rig for fueling the plane, that's a flame thrower for when I need a break and I can't get the women to leave me alone.. Gotta set up a perimeter burn so I can see em coming and fire off a few warning shots.

Truck doesn't have a plow on it and doesn't need them.  The SxS does all the plow work these days and does need them to make life much easier on wet ice and carrying lots of snow in the plow.  Makes it safer rallying down the trails too!

If your into off airport flying don't get anything less than the 8" wide.  Does not dig into the loose sand / gravel as much.  If you are pounding pavement and grass strips, the 6" pneumatic works just fine.
I have had both and I prefer the 8" wide.  I use the 6" with my tail ski in the winter on the rare occasion that we actually get enough snow to put the ski's on... Its almost Christmas and we don't have any snow on the ground now.. in Alaska.. WTF.

The charts can get confusing if you don't pay attention to the notes.  I know that we all want the very best performance we can get from out planes.  4 strokes you can get away with running the ragged edge, one hick up with a 2 stroke and your in an emergency situation much faster than you want to be.  Been there, got the tee shirt and some shorts that were replaced.
I have learned that plugs are cheap to replace and I will gladly run a bit on the fat side and replace plugs as needed.  Makes for a much more enjoyable flying experience when you are confident in your engine and don't think twice about loading your kid up with you and taking off at -30 to head to a remote destination.
Hope with the better weather moving in we get some flight reports REAL soon!
If your in the mood for it, give me a shout after the 18th when I get back home and we can get together and have some fun!

I fly a short wing death trap... I am happy that some still think the short wing piper is just that.  It keeps them cheap for those of us that know how to fly them and love em.  When I say it, its more to throw it in the face of those who don't know a thing about them and just perpetuate what a friend of a friends 3rd cousins uncles aunt was told one time at a bar...

9 times out of 10 if ya catch a little flak about the little wheel being on the wrong end, its all in good fun and is an age old thing.  Your mods are looking good.  You planning on reinforcing the fuse sides as well?
