  1. My son and I made it up there for the finals on Saturday. Great event with some impressive SLOW flying in some gusty 90° crosswinds!

Got to chat with Hal and Steve. Great guys!

They live streamed the event on the Sodbusters Facebook page and you can still watch the event there.

Hope they do it again next year! Worth the 2 1/2 hr drive one way.

  2. Not a peep on this thread, maybe a quiet show this year? I usually hear from somebody by now asking me to hold the site or two next to mine at the UL field.

I will be driving in Wednesday night (for the STOL Demo!) and staying through Saturday. If you could save me a car/tent spot next to the fence...that would be great. Thanks, Brooks

  3. I found this online.

    https://avidflyer.fandom.com/wiki/Models

Model C (serial numbers about 250 to about 900)

The Model C's fuel tanks moved to the wings. Matco wheels and hydraulic brakes were used, and a castoring Matco tailwheel with 1-1/4 inch tailspring. The radiator was mounted inside the cowling on the passenger's side. Tubing replaced the wood stringers along the fuselage sides, but a wood stringer was still used on the bottom.

The single diagonal piece of tubing across the cockpit ceiling was changed to a stronger triangular structure.

The Heavy Hauler wing rib spacing was changed to 12 inches. The Aerobat wing had the same features as the Heavy Hauler but was 6 feet shorter (24 feet vs 30 ft). The Commuter wing was a short STOL wing.

  4. This is my favorite airfield to visit in my Avid Flyer. It is the historic Stanton airport in Stanton Mn. It was originally a WWII training facility operated by Carleton College to train pilots for the war effort. It is now owned by a group of aviation enthusiasts.

It is rare in the fact that it is a privately owned, public airport with a grass airstrip. It has both a North-South and East-West runway. Of course the Avid loves the grass!

I feel fortunate to have such a jem close by and thought I would share it. If you're flying through the area on the way to Oshkosh it is worth a stop.

  5. I have read the only the 1993 or 1994 Rotax 670 engines will work with the Ducati dual ignition and also have Provision 8 case for mounting the gear box.

Who is the pipe builder you went with? Cost?

  6. I run a 64" 2 blade warp drive on my Jabiru.  Some guys go with 60" on their Jabirus.   While it's not maybe the most efficient set up for this type of plane, those props will fly these planes fairly well when the prop has the correct pitch.  Maybe your mechanic miss spoke, and meant to say over propped.  My understanding of terms is  underpropped = not enough prop.  Over propped = to much prop.  Not enough prop will allow the engine to over rev, to much prop and you wont make enough rpm to get all the power out of the engine.    Anyone else want to chime in??? Am I wrong in my termenalogy ??   JImChuk

I feel your explanation is correct. The first thing I would do is to set the static RPM as stated and also check the carbs and jetting.

  7. Fred,

I have subscribed to your channel recently. I really enjoy your style of videos. Keep up the great work, it is inspirational!

I did most of my primary flight training in a Super Cub with heal brakes. They work ok but I am not a fan of them.  I prefer toe brakes because they are easier to use.
