If the alignment is close then try lapping with valve grinding past.
make sure every bit of abrasive is removed before startup or it will get in your engine!

  7. Dusty added a post in a topic Ducati Ignition needed

Rotax Rick was doing Nippon ignition conversions,is this engine one?
I believe the Nippon ignition I had fitted to my points ignition 503 had a built in advance/ retard curve.
If your modules have this feature ,perhaps sticking with Nippon would be a good idea.
Also i personally would favour a Japanese ignition over an Italian (only the French are worse at electrics than Italy)

Keep an eye on your egt's as two stroke load has a effect on egt's
I wish my 582 had an IVO

  9. Dusty added a post in a topic Any issues with stand gearbox oil in cold weather

There is a viscosity chart online for the c box ,I can't find it at the moment.
thinner oil at cold tems helps, the box in a kitfox runs cool anyway

  10. Dusty added a post in a topic new engine choice

The early Subaru engines were quit small ,there would have been a very limited market.
their exhaust pipe systym was similar to a vw,now they appear to be 2 into one,
    probably a collectible?

If in doubt redo the top end !
Hone your bores to near their maximum limit(less chance of a repeat performance) and install a SBT top overhaul kit.
This kit visually looks good quality and as a bonus has Teflon skirts and ceramic crowns all for slightly more $ than one bare genuine piston(use the rotax careless bearings)
My 582 has never gone so well!

I glued mine on with epoxy primer and put a witness mark on the tyre and rim,so far so good(400t hrs at 8psi)
I also run tubes with threaded nuts ,if they were to spin then hopefully would just become like a tubeless ?

    912 ignition modules
How much cooling (if any) do 912 moduls require?
I am in the process of tracking down randome stumbles and alarming surges in an early 1000+hr 912
we believe we have the carbs sorted and have now finally located a broken pickup wire (there may be more)
the plan is to relocate the modules behind the firewall away from engine heat and vibration using a slightly longer and replaceable loom.
there will be no significant airflow but the plastic case and lack of cooling fins leads me to think these dont generate any real heat.
has anyone measured the heat buildup on these?

Pretty much spot on ,two strokes need to be "setup" with all variables taken into account followed by a test  and adjust period "two strokes Seldom die, the are usually murdered"

  16. Dusty added a post in a topic Droop tips

Can't comment on the performance at this stage, but my 4 with std wing tips  gives a smaller blind spot in the pattern than my droop tip 3
the droop tips definatly look cooler

  17. Dusty added a post in a topic Replace leaking wing tank. Adding tank to wing with no tank. Need help.

For the locker just leave be and add a bladder tank,I have recently purchased a 15 litre (6gal?)tank that is a perfect fit,the intention was to tee into one of the tank lines and let gravity do the rest(no venting issues) unfortunetly i wont get a chance to try it as KNZ is currently for sale as i am refurbishing another fox,I will try and get to the hanger today and get some photos of the tank and fit
perhaps a large custom  made bladder could be installed  in the main tank, fuel level checking would be the only drawback.   No more leaks to worry about!
Just a thought ,cut the top out of the glass tank to get access, glass and then add a devider to that tank ,making it a 6gal then plumb in a 6 gal bladder in the remaining half?

  20. Dusty added a post in a topic Tired of pulling the string on my 582

There is nothing wrong with the 582 pull start, the 582 needs 300 rpm to get a good spark keeping the plug gaps narrow also helps .Be careful you don't elbow your passenger in he face

  21. Dusty added a post in a topic 582 Fuel requirements

Leaded fuel when burnt produces a corrosive mix, when we removed lead from our auto fuel here, within a few years there was hardly an exhaust shop to be found.Leaded fuel will rot a non stainless exhaust.
I run mainly 98 unleaded pump gas but use avgas when on a xcountry for convenience, the egt's generally are slightly lower on avgas,
yes the timing can be advanced(I did)but the performance gain was not noticable

  22. Dusty added a post in a topic 582 Fuel requirements

The previous owner of KNZ did 750hrs exclusively on avgas before selling the engine to another flyer, apart from the usual servicing he never had to do anything major, when I got it the only problem was a rotten exhaust, avgas is hard on exhausts.

Black is a bad idea if you want to be seen from any angle other than below. My dark blue colour KF is next to impossible to see even with yellow markings and a very bright strobe
the fabric is 25 years old and apart from a couple of pea sized bubbles is in excellent condition ,we don't have very high temperatures here over 30c,but our uv is one of the highest on the world.

Some people may not agree but my perspective about the refugee crisis is this, how bad must there life be if families risk everything to escape. If only there was joint coalition of nations who could step up and sort this mess out (UN?) we need to do something!
the people I have no sympathy for is the hoards of young fit men fleeing, leaving mothers sisters and ederly behind and breaking laws while claiming to be refugees, they should stay and fight COWARDS not welcome here!
