asw27p8 let me fly this fine bird a few days ago.  It's a good, simple, Kitfox with 80hp.  It flies very smooth and quiet and has a great climb rate.  It's built the way a Kitfox is suppose to be built!!  Bump for a great airplane at a great price

Wasn't Valley the ones who made the V8 silent chain reddrives? A machinist in Nikiski, Alaska made one for an EA-81 - I had the prints somewhere.

Diesels run slow anyway, or used to - don't think you should need a redrive. Wonder what the little VW weighs?

Shoot me your addy in a PM and I can shoot you a DVD called "deep inside your 2 stroke rotax"  It will take you through it A to Z.  I also have pullers for the gear on B and C boxes I don't mind loaning out.  There really are no other specialty tools to tear the engine down other than a steering wheel puller for the mag and an allen wrench to drop in the hole to keep the crank from turning when your busting loose the big nut on the end of the crank.

dealing with the circlips on the pistons is a pain but using a screw driver you can do them.  I ground a little slot in the end of the screw driver to hold them, or you can file a notch in a set of needle nose pliers to help with the re-install.  The only other thing to pay attention to is putting the pie plate back on right.

All in all, its a very easy engine to pull down and rebuild / reseal.

I landed my model 2 on a sand bar off cape cod once,..it was about 75' long bar,..then took off from the same ..I used about 50' for landing and take off,..landing,,wheel landing with brakes,,come to a stop then set tail down,,same maul that you have,,take off ,..powered up..brakes on got tail up ..and took off..

as for a PSRU the "Back yard flyer"/"Culver props" ..are about 20 miles from here,..they can build a PSRU for just about anything,..also known as Valley Engineering

not to get off topic..but what kind of tracks you welding?? I have built a few naskart go kart tracks :)

if you have ever watched "Swamp Loggers" on history channel..I use to do allot of welding for Bobby Goodson

It should be getting close to a useable weight, the things it needs are to be a popular enough car engine that there are plenty to be had, a light weight PSRU and cooling system, If there are enough of them built there is a possibility of lightening it up enough to be used as an aircraft conversion. I still like diesels, if nothing else you save the weight of the ignition system, the one I thought was going to make it is being used in UAVs right now so it may come available within a few years, the DAIRwith the scott stroke engine

there is a T bird sitting in a barn about 10 miles from nere,..has grey head 582 or 532 on it,,thinking it has 10 hrs,..but sails are shot,..complete go thru would be required..but he wants what a new one costs going on flight time appraisal..new skins not considered..

I had looked into a 2008 ford focus motor ,, it weighs 211 with alt intake and exhaust manifolds,.now the fiesta 3 cylinder motor,..shown sitting in a suitcase on the ford site,..supposed to be 100 hp,..wonder what the weight is and what HPit's pumping with the ecoboost connected..

Congrats on saving another big bird - Holy Moly, with a load of moose meat and booze, you are going to have to find a bigger playground!

yeah, they are a LOT heavier on the controls etc.. The avid is not going anywhere, its my fun plane.  The 180 will be for the longer trips taking the wife and baby along.  And for me and my buddy go get out and explore more of AK and do some hunting further out than we can in the Avid or PA12.  I figure that if I take the 180 loaded up with fuel and a good camp, and he takes the PA12 for the short lake work, we can do some awesome hunting and fishing trips in style and comfort!

The wife is really big on having a place to tie down the baby in the car seat   hence I had to look for the bigger plane.  The 180 has always been my favorite plane for looks and use.  To be able to get my hands on one finally has been a long time coming.  Most of all, just like I did with my Avid, I am happy to be able to save another plane from the junk yard and keep a beautiful plane from turning into ramp mummy junk.  It kills me to see good aircraft sitting at a tie down and not being moved or used for years, yet have owners that refuse to sell even though the tires are rotted off and the rudder or elevator has corroded to nothing.  I was happy to get a chance to save this one

Well, not everyone can bring a Cadillac out of work like Johnny Cash, I worked for the railroad and some of th things I was told to through out in a dumpster found one a little closer to home, anyone need a two-stroke powered grinder?

It's the same everywhere - a guy I worked with got fired for walking out of Chrysler plant with a gallon of paint he took out of the dumpster - at the same time, a $51 Million plant clean-out and remodeling was going on and it all went out on a scrap train -

I later bought 5 gallon buckets of Chrysler tools and milling cutters and such from a local salvage seller for $25 a bucket!

When I worked for the Coast Guard, they scrapped new stuff every week - $$$$ of it!

Government and Military are the biggest wasters we have.

    Leni,

I really appreciate your efforts - and really miss the site when it is down - I do well to turn on the puter -

Now a really ignorant question - While the site was down I went searching for another way to get to it - On Yahoo search, I found the IP# and the Chicago company name that makes the site, and all the other sites they post too - With all the bastards hacking, why in hell would all this technical info, which don't mean shit to me, be posted for anyone to read?

Thanks so much for doing this for us.

its a 180.  0470R.  Debating a Pponk on it or just finding a 520 to stick in the nose.  I have a few months before I have to make that call.

I see it is a 180 now, it will feel like a 727 after flying the Avid.......

:lmao:  well I figured that one out a few days ago so I am in the same boat!  Me thinks I am gonna take a stab at it and set up and alternate site, back it all up and migrate it to that so nothing on the original server is hurt.. ummm, I mean changed yet.. once I figure out that I have made the alternate site work properly I can do the site migration for real.  basically means I have to do this twice, but I get a practice run so I hopefully dont screw anything up on the real move!

  No I just have good buddies to partner up with   truth be known, we picked this up for less than you paid for your KF.

What kinda job you looking for?  Engineering types and piping designers are in high demand right now!

I have not even thought about a "lifetime" membership... I would hate to have something go wrong 2 yrs from now and have a guy that spent some $$ on the site have nothing to show for it if it cratered and I was not able to get it back up and running with all the content.

I have heard of very few diesel conversions that work, there is the dieselis aircraft, the website is in French so I can't reap much about it, the engine was used by bobcat in a 385 I think excavator,it is a peugoet and was used in a few other cars that weren't sold in the US, the power is about 100hp and it is fairly light weight as diesels go, I personally love the idea of diesel engines, no plugs to go bad and the older pre computer engines were simple, the VW diesel was fairly heavy but there are a lot more vw industrial engines than people would think. with the fuel mileage or Gallons per hour that these new snowmobile engines burn you are getting a very economical engine to operate and the snowmobiles wear out before the engines do. I just passed on a running and driving Yamaha for $4000 that I could have pulled the engine from and parted out the rest for about what I would have in it, My wife finishes nursing school in 6 months and she has promised me a new or new to me plane, I will probably build another, there was a Norman explorer based very closely on the Dean Wilson explorer that was like a tiny camper and flew at close to legal LSA speed, that one interests me, but maybe I will check on a new Kitox IV with my new weight I can easily get away with it.

well the title says it all.  I am trying to get the site moved to a new server.  I may be able to get the invision guys to do the move, but the godaddy guys wont do it.  If I cant pay invision to do it, do any of you guys have any special geekyness <yeah I just made that shit up   who would be willing to help with the migration, backing up the data yada yada so we can mover to a better host, a ton less money etc so I dont nuke the whole damn site and loose everything we have on here :dunno:

Any help would be appreciated if the invision guys cant do it for us.
