I think Dave Goodes was heavier than Randy's, I know they were shooting for 815 pounds but I don't think they made it.  I think the one that Ross was building right down the road was projected to come out about the same.  They went a little nuts adding this and that to the fat avid frames.

Anyone have the empty weight and dimensions of their Avid Magnum?

My builders manual gives no dimensions, and the only empty weight given is in a W/B example as 1025 - even if they are assuming an O-320 installed, I cant imagine a 265 lb weight gain over SuberAvid's plane with the Stratus Soob weighing 760 - that being about the heaviest Avid I have heard of so far.

    Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of upgrading my Kitfox Model IV from the 80HP 912 to the 100HP model.

I just picked up a brand new 912ULS earlier this week. The problem I am having is that the new 912's come with factory made fuel hoses with banjo fittings on the ends, and because the engine mount configuration on the Model IV's require me to swap the intake manifold from the left side to the right, that carbs are now farther apart and the fuel hoses are too short.

One option is for me to use the old fuel pump and carbs from my 80HP engine, but it would be a shame not to use the new carbs that came with the new engine.

Another option would be for me to use the new carbs but mount them with the throttle linkages inboard, if I did this the fuel hoses would probably reach. I don't like this idea though because it would make inspecting the throttle linkages and syncing the carbs more difficult.

The best option in my mind would be to fabricate a new fuel hose assembly similar to the one supplied by the factory, but with longer hoses. In order to do this, I either need to find a source for the banjo fittings at the carb connection, or find a hose barb fitting that threads into the carb instead of the banjo bolt.

Have any of you guys ran into this issue? If so what did you do to solve it?
I've attached photos of the factory supplied fuel hose assembly that I need to extend.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
    Randy

I'm just putting this out there.

    I have a 74 Duster with a 512 ci engine,727 trans and a Dana 60 rearend.

Calvert racing suspension that works good on the street.

This is not a show car,but it has made me a bundle on the street.

It has all the safety equipment to go 10 flat.

The second car is a full on race car.

68 Dart Post that runs 9.60

It runs in the Super Pro class.

Was runner up at a Arm Drop live event as seen on Speed Chanel.

More pictures Google Womanator,it usually comes up the first coupe entry's.

The race car I would consider trading for a Mk-4 with a Rotax 912

Shoot me your offers here if there's any interest.

I already have a MK-4 but my wife wants one now.

On the suction side of the pump, it will pull in whatever is easier, like air, or a mixture of what is available -

On the pressure side of the pump you would have fuel coming out of the leaking part.

If you're talking about the glass style filter, I have one on my other aircraft. It always has a little air in the glass but it pulls through just fine. Not sure if it just captures air and the way it pulls it leaves the air in the glass area or not. The filter element is connected so that I can understand internally how it could leave the air in the line without sucking it into the carbs. My carbs are also bowl style so I've never worried about it. I've flown over 50 hours with this set up without so much as a hiccup.

It may have been in such a place as to have an o-ring or some other part of the filter act as a one-way valve allowing air to be sucked in but not let fuel out…  ??

I've seen this before in hydraulic fittings.

my guess is air being sucked in by the fuel pump through a small leak in the filter .my plane quit on its first flight because of a small air leak on a filter .fuel pumps sucked the air and drained the header tank.test pilot shut all electrical off then it started it gravity feed and flew it back(he was at 9000ft). or its  something else completely j,just what came to mind

Replaced my main line fuel filter with one of those $13 screen filters from Napa. Last night I was going to go flying. When priming I noticed air in the primer line, enough to give it a couple of more shots to get it primed and started. Once started there were supper big bubbles coming out of the filter and going up into the carb lines. I had a couple of hours on this filter. Didn't like that so I replaced it with a new paper filter again. No major bubbles in the primer line or the fuel lines going to the carbs. No gas leaking out of the Napa filter, but why all the bubbles?

Most of the extra weight on this fuselage is from the cabin forward - that could be changed and lightened a lot easier than trying to build from the tail forward - I think that SkyPirate had a lot of welding time and cost of tubing in building this.

Everyone seemed happy with the extra length, width, performance, and weight, of the Airdale and Fat Avids - they were extended to manage the heavier engines too?

Since Lostman is not flying under the LSA rules, he could make a Magnum or better plane without the 1320 lbs weight restrictions, IMO.    How long is the Magnum from firewall to rear of VS?

This fuselage will be either taken away, or cut up and scrapped, SOON,  to make my wife happy - it would be a shame to waste it.  I just don't have room to store it inside.

Randy, the fuse that Ed has right now is much bigger! It's something in the neighborhood of 17' long without tail feathers. If I remember correctly it's also 48" wide with square sides...plus 30 pounds heavier than an Avid frame.

I was up late last night doing some reading about adverse yaw and have some remedies for the rebuild...if it happens. I am leaning more and more towards rebuilding. Anyone have any 4130 sitting around to rebuild a fuse? I still have to strip this one of fabric to see where I'm at with it. Not sure it's worth cutting up and redoing yet though. It's mangled and out of square almost everywhere. It might be easier to start fresh. Now I just need a job to buy the tubing.

Thank you for all the kinds words!

I'm in for a fly-in any other year. Starting to get ideas about rebuilding...more information to come later.

I second the motion that you guys take lots of pictures!!

We will be arriving Thursday afternoon. This is not the BCP fly in they are having that somewhere else this year. We will look for you.

Sure will be fun to get everyone down there. Let's set a date for next year and make it happen.

You've got to love that; those are some classic beauties.  You guys can sure be proud of your work on those!

I still have my original High School car, a 62 Chev Impala 2D HT.  I inherited it from my grandparents who bought it new.  It's been stored in OR for the past 25 years now so I will need to completely go through it to get it road worthy again.  Another one of those projects I have packed away.   Joey mentioned the ADCO sway bar he just installed; I remember when I added ADCO sway bars to my 62; one of the best improvements in handling ever.  Those and a good set of wide radials made it feel like a roadster compared to what it was before.  With the original soft slung suspension and bias ply tires it had, you couldn't go around a corner without feeling like it was going to roll the tires off the rims. :lmao: Love those sway bars!
