Just quick math, your talking about a 316 RPM difference at the prop at 6500 RPM on takeoff (the max HP RPM) While your turning the prop higher, your doing it at less pitch so you get a slight advantage of pulling, but loose on speed as you cant quite hog in as much pitch at cruise. For me, its all about getting off the ground and climbing not about cruise, even though I get a bit of that back with the IFA prop.

Edit* When I talked to the guys at IVO they told me that I would get more pull with the 3:1 so that was what made me try it to begin with. I think that on a slow mover like a PPC it MAY help them, but we have to think about airspeed as well as climb and speed does help = climb in our planes too..

I swapped them back and forth a couple times to see what the difference would be. With the IFO it is kinda negligible with a slight edge going to the 2.62:1 gears from my testing. Granted, my testing was not with a scale and a pull test as I had originally wanted to do, but a get off the water and out climb the trees test..

    Gears in the gearbox change
Has anyone changed the gears in a c box from 3:1 to 2.6:1 ? I'm thinking I'll get better climb performance, especially with the Ifo. Thoughts? Bryce

  5. akflyer added a post in a topic Routing Fuel Lines

I ran mine from the header tank to the wing tanks with aluminum tubing, then a short piece of the blue fuel tubing from the ATV shop from the tubing to the fitting in the tank so it will move with the wing when you swing it. Nothing says that you cant run the rubber tubing from the wing tanks to the engine, but I liked to make the long runs with aluminum. It looks neater and is easier to secure to the frame. My laptop took a dump on me a couple days ago so I am not able to get pictures from it, but I may be able to get the wife to take some pics and send them to me if you dont get anyone else to answer here with pictures.

I think the build manual shows a good routing scheme, but am not certain of it.

    Routing Fuel Lines
What do you AVID owners recommend for placement of fuel lines from wing to header tank that is located behind seat on passenger side.

    Thanks

    Relationships
A woman walks into an attorney's office.

He asks: What can I help you with? She says: I want to divorce my husband.

He asks: Do you have a case? She says: No we have a John Deer

He asks: No I mean do you have any grounds? To which she replies: Yes, we have several acres.

A bit flustered he asks: I mean do yo have a suit? She answers: No, but my husband has a closet full.

More confused he then asks: Has he ever beat you up? She says: No, I get up before him every morning.

Finally exasperated he asks: Well, what is wrong with your relationship? She replies: I can't communicate with the son of a bitch!

Yes, you are correct on that - But why not keep a second one since you probably wont get much for it anyway? You never know what may happen in an accident.

That looks great. I wondered how you got the left pedal on the pass. side to work on the inner tube but the pics show it well. That should be a nice set up.

If I remember correctly, the new ACK 406 transmits on both 406 and 121.5. Probably most of them do.

So, raise you hand if you like the Avid/Kitfox design rudder peddle brake assembly... <<crickets chirping>>

Me neither. Junked the whole thing. With the help of my master welder/fabricator friend, Dave, we built a set of Wag-Abond (Wag Aero's Vagabond clone) peddles, modified to fit my Kitfox. (He built the same for his hybrid plane and they work awesome!)

    The Baptist Cowboy

A cowboy, who just moved to Wyoming from Oklahoma , walks into a bar and orders three mugs of Bud. He sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn. When he finishes them, he comes back to the bar and orders three more.

The bartender approaches and tells the cowboy, "You know, a mug goes flat after I draw it. It would taste better if you bought one at a time."

The cowboy replies, "Well, you see, I have two brothers. One is in Arizona , the other is in Colorado . When we all left our home in Oklahoma , we promised that we'd drink this way to remember the days when we drank together. So I'm drinking one beer for each of my brothers and one for myself."

The bartender admits that this is a nice custom, and leaves it there.

The cowboy becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way. He orders three mugs and drinks them in turn.

One day, he comes in and only orders two mugs. All the regulars take notice and fall silent. When he comes back to the bar for the second round, the bartender says, "I don't want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences on your loss."

The cowboy looks quite puzzled for a moment, then a light dawns in his eyes and he laughs.

"Oh, no, everybody's just fine," he explains, "It's just that my wife and I joined the Baptist Church and I had to quit drinking."

    "Hasn't affected my brothers though."

    Long live redheads...
Obama was looking for a Call Girl
He found 3 such girls in a local Pub,a blonde, a brunette and a redhead.
To the blonde he said,I am the President of the United States, now how much would it cost to spend some time with you?
She replied $200.00,to the brunette he ask the same question. Her reply was $100.00
He then ask the redhead... Her reply was,
Mr. President,if you can get my skirt up as high as my taxes,my panties as low as my wages,Get that thing of yours as hard as the times we are living in,And keep it rising like the
price of gas,Keep me warmer than it is in my Apartment and screw me the way you have retirees,
Then you can have it for free, like the immigrants.

The 3/8 Aluminum tube is about 5/16 inside - Dont think I want any 1/8 restrictions in lines. We used 3/8 on the C-90, and have the fittings and tubing, so going with the cheapest, easiest.
    Thanks,

Me Too - but the thing I hated to see was the cheap "D" batteries being replaced with a new, probably Lithium, more expensive 5 year battery - and with the Boeing batteries now catching on fire,
I wonder if my ELT will burn up too!
If I still had one of the light-weight 121 transmitters in my plane, I would leave it there and add the 406 for more insurance.

No pictures yet. I will take some. I can't take credit for building the plane, so really they would be pictures of Vince's fine workmanship. He did a nice job on all the stuff that realy counts. He is a bit more of a gadget guy than me, so I am simplifying things a bit to make it mine. Have found several things that need some attention before it starts being flown a lot and am focusing on those right now. Plus he flew it quite a bit so there is a lot of maintenance and just going through everything with a fine tooth comb and a new set of eyes. It's a great project and I feel fortunated to that he was kind enough to give me a real fair deal on it.

    Hi Leni,

From what I understand, it sounds like extending the wings with the current twist would be self defeating like you say. I am not planning to put them on my existing wings but on the new wings I will be building from the Avid kit I picked up last summer. My plan is to extend the wings by 1/2 bay (18" per side) instead of the full bay each side. I will cut the washout to 1 inch with the extensions on the wings. Also plan to use a hinge rib on the end and extend the flaperons 1/2 bay to the ends as well. Plan to double up the spar stiffeners by laminating a 36" length microlam to the stock 24" microlam stiffener to strengthen and lengthen the stiffener support but don't plan to lengthen the lift struts, just replace the 7/8" tubing with 1" tubing on them.

I guess if Brett doesn't come through I will have to fab up the extension parts myself so would welcome any parts source info.

I used my older ACK 121.5 ELT until they finally got the new ACK 406 on the market. It was about $600, still a chunk of money but not $1000 like most of the others.

Ed, the MGL Flight -2 instrument with fuel flow sensor. This instrument gives you fuel flow, fuel remaining based on tank level sensors or you can preset your fuel amount at start of flight if you dont have tank sensors, fuel time remaining, fuel distance remaining, low fuel warning; all based on the fuel level, fuel flow and airspeed calculated by the instrument; plus all the other things it does.

3/8 fuel lines are overkill for the EA81. I used 5/16 but when you look at the orifice that the fuel flow sensor has in it (placed upstream from the fuel pumps) it is probably only about 1/8" at the largest and has smaller inserts for readings at the lower fuel flows. I didn't install any restricting inserts in mine which may cause it to be less accurate at the low fuel flows but I wanted the larger size so I didn't have too much restriction.

That is true dictatorship coming from this administration and unfortunately NY state. On the other hand, we have some good news up here in AK; Mike Chenault (not sure if I spelled it right) is the R leader or the state senate, introduced a bill to make it a misdermeaner for any federal official to enforce any new gun control laws on a citizen in AK. We need to thank this guy and ask the other state reps to get behind this bill! Maybe this will spread to other sane states.

States can choose to nullify overreaching federal laws but they have to have the guts to do it. Although it is an odd comparison, WA and CO already set the precedence recently by their legalization of marijuana and Obama said "OK". Of course he may have been thinking about the whitehouse where legalities don't apply anyway.

An AD was issued years ago on the Ercoupe - Added something like 32, 4 inch inspection covers under wings - even in metal wings - my IA wanted a deviance to just do 1" holes borescope the metal wings - FAA said "NO - cut the big holes and inspect". End of story.
