I have a KF 3 and am 24+ and 6' tall. I sit on a booster seat so my head is almost touching the roof, to get better visibility and to offset shoulders with my passenger. (a seldom event) I have no problem getting in and out. I have also flown some elderly folks of my size that were able to get in and out even though they needed the assistance of a cane to walk.
    Good luck.

Thanks guys. I will have to try one to try on. Magnums and KF 5-7's are out of my price range. I would almost always be a solo flyer. Just me, tent sleeping bag and a little gear. I figure most of it in a bag strapped to the second seat.

How much Dihedral do you have? The standard Kitfox has only about 3/4 inch to 1 inch per 4 feet, this would only put about 1/2 inch more in your tank. What if your plane is parked not level?
Hard to imagine 6 gals less, but guess you know.
The Kitfox tank necks stick up about an inch or more above the tank, and the cap does not protrude into the neck - guess that would be better for full tanks, but again, tanks dont stay level in flight, so must be sealed with gaskets and have a positive vent pressure from tall ram tubes.

Good progress - But, real Alaskans never say freeze - Just wait until it is 105 down here and say how nice it is to be only 70 degrees there!
ED in MO - Cold at +30F and waiting on snow here! should be 60 here now. Coldest winter in 100 years in Europe and coldest here in last 20 years - last year it was 90 here in March.
What happened to Al Gore's "Global Warming" that we voted for in Alaska?

The vent was not isolated by sealing the main neck of the gas cap. Now it is. The vent only allows air in and not out therefore if a vacuum is created on the wing the fuel cannot come out. Because of the dihedral of the wing I am loosing fuel capacity because I cannot fill all the way. I am loosing about 6 gals capacity overall.

Your double-gasket may have stopped the leakage - but could it also stop the gas flow by not venting? I wouldn't wait to put the vent on the cap - and why are you going to change the location of the cap now when you have your problem solved? The vent tube should let you fill your tanks full without leakage.

My B model serial # about 247 had the flat bottom doors just like my MK IV. Jim Chuk

The "A" model and the kitfox I have doors that are angled at the back and the side rails on the door sills make it much more difficult to get in and out of. I cant remember if it was changed on the "B" models or if the changes came with the "C" model. I would guess that there was a transition time between models where you could ahve had a "B" model with the angled door sill.

I didn't have any trouble getting into my model "C" when I was 240 at 5'11" but it was tight to get 2 of us in there. The passenger and yourself better be comfortable with him putting his left arm around you though (around your shoulders anyway ). It did take me a few tries to get the technique down to get in and out though. A buddy who was close to my size but had one prosthetic leg used a pin to hold his stick in place so he could reach in, take the stick out, get in the plane then pop the stick back in.

I put the stick full forward and step into the plane grabbing the overhead cross tube to slide myself over.

Hey you know we have a new gun law in the People's Republic of New York that was rammed through by Fidel Cuomo and the state Democrats that make most of us gun owners criminals. Even before this stupid law the crime of possessing a 30 round magazine in New York is more serious than the following crimes: criminally negligent homicide, rape in the third degree, forcible touching, female genitalia mutilation, unlawful imprisonment, arson in the fourth degree, rioting in the first-degree, criminal anarchy, placing a false bomb, incest in the third-degree, criminal obstruction of breathing and persistent sexual abuse of a child. Go figure.

40 of the 62 county governments in New York State have now passed resolutions opposing the New York State Safe Act and it is already being challanged in NY Supreme Court. So now one of the Liberal Democrats in the New York State assembly is proposing a law that will mandate gun owners to carry a $1 million liability insurance policy so the family of the disadvantaged criminal you shoot as he tries to get into your house to rob and kill you, can collect for a loss of his welfare payments and buy a new car and flatscreen TV. Only one problem, just like the seven round magazines now mandated by law, that insurance policy does no exist. These stupid politicians reacting with stupid laws just to push their indoctrination's with no regard to consequences (or the Constitution!) need to be voted into immediate retirement.

Doug, In comparing these, I dont know what width the floor of the Avid + is, but the standard Avid was about 32 inches, while the Magnum is around 36 inches - something that could be considered as it surely affects seat width, even if they are both 44 inches at widest point - maybe not much difference unless you have big feet, or a wide stern?

Well found out why fuel was pouring onto the wings. The plastic self vented caps have a gasket ring that is supposed to seal to the filler neck when screwed on, however my filler neck was not protruding above the wing surface therefore when the cap was screwed down the gasket did not even make contact with surface of the wing. Fuel was being sucked out of tank through through the threads of the gas cap. I doubled the gasket to make sure a seal was taking place on the surface of the wing. Lo and behold after flight testing no leakage and lots more gas in the tank after a trip.

When I relocate the filler neck to the outboard side of the tank I will put the ram air on at that time. For now this will get me through phase 1.

    Thanks for all the input.

If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a license, but not for being in the country illegally ...you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If you have to get your parents’ permission to go on a field trip or take an aspirin in school, but not to get an abortion ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If the only school curriculum allowed to explain how we got here is evolution, but the government stops a $15 million construction project to keep a rare spider from evolving to extinction ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If you have to show identification to board an airplane, cash a check, buy liquor or check out a library book, but not to vote who runs the government ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If the government wants to ban stable, law-abiding citizens from owning gun magazines with more than ten rounds, but gives 20 F-16 fighter jets to the crazy new leaders in Egypt ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If, in the largest city, you can buy two 16-ounce sodas, but not a 24-ounce soda because 24-ounces of a sugary drink might make you fat ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If an 80-year-old woman can be stripped searched by the TSA but a woman in a hijab is only subject to having her neck and head searched ... you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

I think you would be most comfortable in the kitfox V-VII models unless you can find an Avid Plus. The Magnum is usually not flown as a sport plane due to its gross weight although there is at least one Magnum LSA that I am aware of.

One way to get more head room in these planes is with the bubble top windshield. Avid used to sell them, maybe they still do. There are places that will form plexiglass for you with different sized bubbles. They are for skylights. Avid used 2 bubbles in one sheet of plexiglass, but I would think one bubble would would work just as well. I used to have a site saved in my favorites that custom made them. Not real expencive either. Well under $100 as I remember for a size that would fit on the plane. Roughly 24" X 37" with a 2" or 3" high bubble. A friend of mine is about 6"1 and when he built his Model A Avid, he made it a single seat and it works fine for him. He did put a little dome on the windshield above his head, but I think it's because his seat sits a bit higher than it could have. He has a 55 HP Hirth on it. I'ts 36" wide accross at your shoulders, the B,c, and MK IV models are all 39.5" Here's a pic of my Avid MK IV with the bubbles on the top. If you're flying alone, I think any of these plane will work, especially with the added headroom. Best to find one that you can sit in and see. If your legs are real long verses your body, that could be a problem with your knees maybe to close to the instrument panel. Take care, Jim Chuk
