That is a lot of my worry; getting it set up correctly.  I can buy the "Y" injectors that have inputs for both fuel and NO2 into the one injector; and run an injector into each intake.  The question would be what size, and would the 4-5 psi from my fuel pump(s) be adequate?   Good question if the EGT would let you know before it was too late.  I would think so but when you hit the solonoid switch at full throttle it probably happens pretty fast.

I would reccomend tying the plane down and runnig it with the cowl off.
Sounds like the case halfs might be leaking forsing pressure into the
pumpshaft housing thereby forsing oil out.
Are the oil hoses clear poly? If so you could see bubbles.

the tailwheel is fine, got the first taxi in yesterday and it seemed to do okay except that the oil bath resovoir is leaking and im not sure how.  I pulled it off and cannot find a source of the leak but when i fire up the engine and taxi it around and shut down, the oil bath resovoir is covered in 2-stroke oil and its low.

this is a tricky one.  i did install a rubber isolator behind the resovoir thinking that perhaps vibrations were making the oil come out of the vent in the cap.  We will see if that helped today

I noticed there was no more automatic correct / spell check option when writing up your posts. Anyone find this, I seem to rely on this a lot more than I thought!?

    Randy,
Think you should read some input in the EA-81 Service manual posts - some warnings there.

I had guessed what you said was the basis for NO2 - My first question would be, Where is the line between "faster burning" and "explosions"?    Would the EGT have time to tell you that things were going wrong before it is too late?    By "second injector", do you mean for the regular gasoline, I am guessing.

Nitros Oxide (NO2) is very basic applied chemistry.  (And the first person to refer to it as "Noss" i will personally punch in the face.)

The elements in it are nitrogen (inert) and oxygen.  When introduced to an internal combustion engine, the nitrogen has a cooling effect (compressed into a liquid state it is also widely used as a flash freezing coolant) increasing the density of the atmosphere in the intake system.  The other half, oxygen, we all know what that does to combustion.

With the additional oxygenating agents there ALWAYS needs to be a second injector for increasing the volume of fuel in the combustion.  If this injector is lacking or there is not enough fuel present, the resultant lean-out will destroy the engine.  Poof.

Nitrous in itself is usually not what destroys engines.  What causes most dramatic failures is the lean-out melt-down of not having enough additional fuel present to balance the combustion.  All that oxygen will burn something.  If not fuel, it will burn the engine itself.

    Randy,
If you dont get  the info you need, I have one big original alternator, and another smaller one that is on my Reductions engine - I can check the part # on the small one and send it to you.
I have a couple of friends who have used NO2 - one in a car, and dont think I can contact him now, and another who is currently using it for a Harley.   I would think that an aluminum engine might not take the pressures from it, but I will ask my flying buddy about it.
Surely, there are lots of books about it.  I have never studied it, but saw some blown-up engines because of it.
Eggenfeldner had an experimental supercharger for the later soobs, but it was not tested well, and my friend tried it on his RV  and the belt broke and he ended up with a totalled RV because of it.
NSI had a turbo EA-81 some years back - The comp ratio has to be lowered down to about 7:1 for the charged version, compared to about 9:1 for the normal engine.

Thanks for the input guys.  I think I could do it at around 12 lbs.  So far you guys have not talked me out of it.  IA few years ago a buddy helped a friend of his rebuid a stock Dodge 340 that the guy had run with a maxed out NO2 kit on it and the guy ran it like he stole it all the time.  He had quite a few miles on it and it had a couple broken lands and rings on a couple pistons.  Actually I was pretty amazed that it didn't have more damage.  It makes me think that at reasonable lebvels and if used judiciously it would not significantly affect the longevity of a motor.

    Randy,
I thought about doing this on my 582. I talked about it w/ my buddy Steve who builtand flew an Avid B in the 80's and has a ton of high performance experience, he flies an MX-2 currently. Plus he's an engineer and a really smart And hands on experimental kind of guy. Back in the 80's, he had an ultralight buddy flying a quicksilver that used no2 for air show work. With norm maintenance, the engine lasted as to be expected. This was on a Rotax 2 cycle. Steve summed up what the no2 is doing as basically putting 40-50 air in the air intake. So on a hot Tennessee 90 degree 90 % humidity day it cause the engine to make winter time power. Which is a huge difference for those of us down here. I have yet to install the no2. Hope this helps, Bryce

    Anyone experienced with NO2?
I keep thinking about this for my Subie but I don't have any experience using NO2 so wondering if anyone on here does?  I don't want to gain 100 more hp, but looking at the kits that Jegs sells, there is a low hp kit that would give a moderate hp boost, say 15 to 25 hp.  it would be pretty easy to install by welding in a threaded port in my intake manifolds and using a NO2/mogas combi jet into each manifold.  NO2 and fuel triggered by electric solonoids with a switch on the panel right above the throttle so as you hit full throttle you could flip the switch and run it for a few minutes on takeoff only.

If anyone has run NO2 injection, please chime in; can you run low levels like this for short periods of time without causing engine damage to an egine with basically stock internal components?  How difficult is it to get it all set up and tuned right?

We had an interesting presentation at the EAA meeting this week.  A Delorme rep gave us a intro on the new to be introduced InReach SE; to be available in April, just in time for the AK Aviation Trade Show on 4 May.  The pictures are of the brochure.  This is the second generation of the Delorme product; it has a touch screen like a smart phone, built in GPS, built in rechargeable lithium battery and works similar to a Spot but allows 2-way texting as well as the SOS and precanned texts, plus tracking, etc.  It does not need to be linked to a smart phone to use but can be linked to an Ipad, etc.  It uses the Iridium satelight system rather than the globstar that the Spot uses so it covers AK much better.  Price is $299 for the unit and plans start at $10 per month.  I attached pics of the brochure so they are not very good but hopefully are readable.

I plan to get one and retire my Spot.  This is pretty much what I was looking for short of a Sat phone, in a self contained package and reasonable price.

I was wondering why I couldn't contact them.  My alternator seems to be decreasing in voltage output to the point I think I need to replace it.  I talked to them a few weeks ago to find out what the part number was; I got the local NAPA to order it and it was not the one I have from RAM.  Tried to contact RAM again and only got a busy signal.  I may have to modify my alt. mount if I cant get a good number for the alt.  I can find the basic 6 lb ND alternator on a 95 Toyota PU but the mount is a little different.  Oh well, I built the mount I have now because the RAM mount did not work with the Stratus manifold/carb set up.

RAM makes some interesting turbo'd and supercharged subies...  I would like to see how they performed but don't know how I could fit any more equipment under the cowl.

So a US pilot would have to fly in Canada with a private pilot cert (or higher) and current medical?  ...plus the 12" N numbers.

Can we make it on the US side.. it sounds easier for Can brothers to fly our birds in US than the other way around.  Chicken, Eagle, Tok anyone?

Thats exactly what I was talking about Doug - Looks like a wood copy of the Cessna 150 pedals - Should work great - Was thinking of just bending the sheet metal to that shape or attaching a square tube to the front.
Good Ideas come from all sources - Maybe someone can come up with something better now?
Only problem is - Its hard to get the smell of cowshit out of the wood!
Now you know why my floorboards are aluminum!

Ed - I intend to do just that, just need to find a short length of wooden dowel or closet rod first. I will cut it length wise into a half circle profile and screw it to the lower face of the pedal from behind with a bit of Hysol. I am poaching the idea from the same buddy of mine who helped me make my KF-3 pedals (look familiar? ) This time around, I opted for a little different approach on account I had no suitable aluminum stock on hand and the tie plates were already sitting on the shelf.

    Doug,
Putting all the cowshit aside - and your idea is great - I am just wondering if this could be imporved on by bending the sheet metal to nearly match the contour of the original E-tubes, sort of in a modified V, so that you push on the bottom part more unless you slide your toes up to the top of the V, sort of like the bottom of the Cessna pedals stick out more than the top?

Yes I live in Soldotna, a couple blocks from Akflyer.
My floats are stored outside in a snow bank.
Its a poly tube that is mostly sprayfoamed over so
only part of it is visable. You can't see how its hooked
to the hole drilled at the bottom. I would think with a barbed
    hose fitting.
It's 12 below here this morning so a pic is out for now!

I guess i dont understand.  You have tubes that run inside the float?  In my instructions I dont see anything that deals with running tubes.  Do you have a picture that would be helpful?   I did not realize you live in Alaska.  If you get a chance come to Big Lake and fly hours off my phase 1.  I provide the gas.

    Thanks.
