Jim.. Yes I used the 105 for thinning all poly products instead of the MEK or 8500.
It of course it also serves for cleanup for poly and epoxy.
I also used a little acetone before finding out about the 105.
I thought there was no reason to pay $40 a gal when you get  5 gal for $50

I have used the MEK substitute extensively without issue for polyfiber products and other MEK uses. Ace Hardware and Home Depot carry only the substitite now. Walmart doesn't carry MEK or the substitute here. The label says that can be used anywhere MEK is called for.

There was a guy in a bar one night that got really drunk, I mean really ,really, really drunk. When the bar closed he got up to go home.

As he stumbled out the door, he saw a nun walking on the sidewalk. So he stumbled over to the nun and punched her in the face. The nun was really surprised but before she could do or say anything he punched her again.

This time she fell down and he stumbled over to her and kicked her in the side, then he picked her up and threw her into a wall. By this time the nun was pretty weak and couldn't move very much.

So then he stumbled over to her, put his face right next to hers and said........

Hi Paul! A photo would be great. I would like no spring like the Facet carb and vernier on my Lycoming. As a second choice I would like return to idle. I do not like return to full throttle they way my 912 is set up, but I suppose I will be getting used to it.
P.S. Sorry about the underlining. Finally figure out how to stop it.

    Jim,

Yes, I used it for all the thinning on the polyfiber products and for clean up of the brushes and spray gun.  The only thing I did not use it for was to clean up the epoxy primer, I had to get some thinner from the local auto parts store to clean up the epoxy.  I had ZERO issues using acetone used exactly as the book called out for MEK to be used.

Bob, are you saying that the 105 cleaner was used instead of the RR 8500 reducer to thin the poly-brush, poly-spray, and poly-tone? Also, Leni it seems that's what you used the acetone for? I tried to compare the MSDS sheets for the poly-fiber reducer to see how much difference there was in the different products. Didn't find a poly-fiber MSDS. I have another Avid to recover if the welder ever gets time for my fuselege. Jim

I used acetone to thin all the polyfiber products.  No issues and is not as harsh as the MEK.

Thanks Joey, will you please measure the springs wire height and width while you have it apart. I am interested in hearing how the new spring works out.

If you are happy the way it was sealed, I would be inclined to look at the carbon aspects, and liking that, fly it. Do you have a log book that could give you an idea when it was decarboned? If rings stick, it is generally they will on the intake side, so you won't be able to see it unless you take the head off. If the exhaust and top looks clean, and the rest of the engine appears well taken care of, I would not hesitate to use it.

I have one spring that is attached to the mixer. Next time I go to the hanger I will get a picture of the spring setup. One per carb would not work with the sort of cable arrangement the plane has. With the new cable it can be operated with springs in the idle return position, full throttle, or my preferred method of no spring at all.

    Jim,
Those tapes running chordwise should have been put on before the leading edge tapes were put over them- That could be a reason they came loose.

    Hi Paul,

Each carb has a return spring. In the case of the 912 it pulls the carbs wide open. The way I see it is if the neutralizer spring(s) are either attached 1 per carb, or one spring affects the mixer which affects both carbs. I think if the neutralizer spring is set up one per carb it could be problematic. If there is just one spring that affects the mixer, it should be fine.

How is your neutralizer set up? Do you have a photo?

Thanks for the responces Ed. Someone on another site mentioned using rejuvanator on the tapes to soften the butyrate and then sticking them back in place. I think I will give that a try. I think the biggest problem was just the slush is heavy, and getting blasted back there at a high rate of speed. Once one little spot came loose, I think it just worked it's way down the line. Thanks, Jim
