    Crosswind
What do you consider as a max crosswind component on hard surface, or challenging?

Yes, agree. What is the size recommended? I could no find a thing except for the sleds and skis, which has a much smaller size. They use 1/4 fuel line (Bing type) I have tripple walled sriffer than ?!* with no abilityto bend on mine. I was planning, if I can't find otherwise, just make myown with aluminium tubing. Seems like a pretty easy system, and no pressure pump, etc. The sled would indicatei that the gearsits in a bath of oil, and the tank repenishes the oil thatmay be lost out the seal. (acceptable for aircraft at 1cc/hr)

Thanks for the replies. Do you think a 1/4" id fuel line and more than the required 310cc of oil would still do the trick?

Jim, I do have an inverted engine, and I fill bottom up, and the bleeder open. I turn it over a bunch, then open the bleeder again, and top up the oil.

My primary desire is to get rid of the big honkn hose and also relocate the bottle to the firewall or at least further aft, and higher.

    582 Rotary Valve Lubrication
My understanding is that the rotary valve is basically sitting in a "bath" of oil. It does not circulate through the lines into the tank. The tank is there to replace by gravity flow, any oil that may go leak out of the rotary valve area. Acceptable limit 1cc/hr. If this is so, then the tank size, and hose diameter is not too important, other than 310cc has to go into the engine/tank, and the line has to be a diameter that would allow at least 1cc/hr to go down it.

This is my understanding, but am actually asking if this is correct or not.

The lines on my set up are monstrous, and has a huge bend radius, taking up way too much room. Older sleds had a small bottle tank with 1/4" lines, (fuel line type). I would like todo this, or use 5/16 line to clean things up considerably.

Thanks for your input. A guiding source would be great too!, as I have not been able to find any.

I would keep to the method that the drawings used. Flutter can be a real problem here, and the results of flutter is not good.

I've used a wire wheel. Access may be a bit difficult, but if you can get some off, then sandpaper may work. I have also tried to burn it off with a torch, then sand.

I would not be in too big of a hurry to assume that you have to strip the fabric. If the tube is only bent, then I would tend to think that it is more ascetic in nature. I would tend to agree with a 2x4 and mallot would work wonders, assuming the tube is not dented sharply. Also, 4130 tubing has a fair amount of spring to it, so you may have to "overbend" it so that it will relax straight. The stressed tubing does want to return to its "rested" shape. The tubing is rather small diameter, and do not be surprised if you see wrinkled fabric with a change of weight on the tail, or when you lift the tail by the handles.

If you are happy the way it was sealed, I would be inclined to look at the carbon aspects, and liking that, fly it. Do you have a log book that could give you an idea when it was decarboned? If rings stick, it is generally they will on the intake side, so you won't be able to see it unless you take the head off. If the exhaust and top looks clean, and the rest of the engine appears well taken care of, I would not hesitate to use it.

    Thanks,

I'll keep the lighter one in mind if I can get away with it. Since Bryce and I think alike, and he needs the weight in the back, I now expect to need the weight. I had hoped that without the Grove gear, I could reduce some ballast.... oh well just switching gear saves almost 25#. (40 vs 15 for the bush gear). Still working on the brake pedal geomtry and seat.

    Min battery 582
What is the minimum battery requirements for the 582. I know what the books says, but I wonder if you could use lighter than 18ah? I would like to save some weight from the 18ah/15# battery.

    Thanks

    The new me
    Hi all,

I had some email and sign in problems for a while, but I'm back. I noticed that I now have 3 sign in names, can't remember them all without leaving this message. I think it was larrym, larr, and ?.

Anyway, they are all me. larry martin, I owned an Avid MK1V, used to be on Grove, now on Bretts bush gear. I had the tail brake in Aug 12, and finally within range of flying in a month or so!

IDK if the administrator want to combine and delete all my names, or just leave it be?

    Please advise.

If anyone emailed me, I did not get them, and would ask if you need a response from me to please try again.

    Thanks,

I use the same elt, as I believe it is still legal, and mine was free. I also understand that the regulations have not kept up with technology, and though it be far better than the legal. Unfotunately, you have to be safe and legal. Safe with your spot, legal with the old elt....

I have a current battery date on mine, but can assure you that mine will never go off in the hangar in the middle of the night. (or ever)

    Elt - save life?
    Ok Ed, I picking on you;

"Single-place planes do not require them, although I would want one from the time of first flight - it could save your life."

I rather doubt that an ELT will saving anyone's life, especially on a local test flight. Your sounding like a polition who saw an airplane once in his life and is now setting laws to protect us.

You want a life saver - try fuel in the tank along with oil, fly on nice days only, do through walk arounds, never do anything for the "thrill", and so on! a 4 lb brick of electronic gear that the satilites don't pick up, and those who hear it on121.5 ignore it. I can get the exact statistic if you'd like, but nearly 98% of elt activations are false alarms - how does that affect the notification and response system...... I could go on, but I won't. I'm surprised by your remark.

All in good fun Ed :beerchug:/>/>/>

    electric fuel pump
My Avid came with an electric fuel pump in addtion to the normal pulse pump. Anyone know why? The fuel system is plumbed like the book, namely a pressure assisted gravity feed. I am redoing things, and am consodering the remaoval of electric pump.... ideas?

    Thanks,
