I was over to the local Auto paint store the other day, and asked about the 105 Gun and equiptment cleaner. This is what I found out. The lady who works the counter there is real sharp on what they sell and has worked there for many years. She showed me what is now called 105 lacquer thinner. She said it is the same stuff as the 105 cleaner, the name has just been changed. Actually before I went there, I had seen the 105 lacquer thinner on the web under Du Pont products and the 105 gun cleaner was not shown on that list. Anyway back to the story about what the gal at the paint store said. She told me it is just a low grade of lacquer thinner and that's why it's priced the way it is. I ended up not getting any at this time. Has anyone knowlingly used lacquer thinner to thin their poly fiber stuff? Thanks, Jim Chuk

Holy crapole you could take that thing to the moon and back! I'm with Leni! Someday I am going to redo my panel and it's going to have a Dynon D100, and EIS, and a Dock for 396, the mag switches, and a starter button and that's it. That panel is pretty badass but just a bunch of mumbo jumbo for 98% of the flying you should be doing with these planes. If the weather is bad I stay home..If it's bad when I'm flying I'll find a road to land on.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I got most of the paint off now and will get the harder to reach parts with the sandblaster. Jim

I used play sand in my sand blaster on some commercial mowers I repainted. Just a standard homeowner shop compressor and the cheapest sandblaster sears had at the time. Worked like a charm! Like Leni said, heat will work great too!!! Good luck, Bryce

Also, if your struggling to maintain 10 volts, it is only a matter of time before you let the magic blue smoke out of the instruments in that panel and you smoke the stator... that is 1200 for the stator last time I had to buy one for my brothers plane when it smoked on me a few years ago!

Here are my thoughts on the Avid or KF panel.... Take a look at an ole J3 or something of that nature.  These are low and slow relaxed fun flying airplanes.  Why do we feel the need to make the panel resemble a brand new caravan that just rolled off the assembly line.  Granted, those of us flying a 2 stroke need a few more gauges than the ole J3, but I am going bare minimum.

Water, RPM, EGT.  Air speed, Altimeter, VSI, slip/skid and a whiskey compass with a radio and my 295.  I have nav and a tail strobe along with an HID landing / recognition light on the gear leg just cause we do alot of flying on darker days around these parts in the winter time.

In reality, when I am flying, I only really use the RPM water and EGT 99% of the time, with a glance at the GPS when I am flying to a new location or if its kinda murky out.

The full panel may look cool and all, but 99% of us are flying planes that are on the nose heavy side (forward CG range).  These planes fly faster, slower and much lighter on the controls when we fly them towards or at the aft end of the CG range.  I use divers weights on the tail spring to get my CG around 18-19" and she is much happier flying there.  Truth is, these planes were originally flying in the sub 400# empty weight range, and over the years, we have added another FULL PASSENGER to the empty weight!  Granted, it is easier and cheaper to put ourselves on a diet versus putting the plane on a diet, but I do like my rum and my food so its gonna have to be my pocket book and airplane that looses the weight.

I must say though, you have a very impressive panel in that plane, but its not for the kind of fun bare bones flying the plane was designed for.

Hey all, after some serious thinking I have decided to greatly downsize and redesign my panel.  Curious on a few things.

First off, what is my old stuff worth?  Other then the turn coordinator which had a burnt up bearing it all works.

I'm looking to get an inpanel mount for my Ipad 2 and mount my stratus on the top of the dash.  Eliminate all the vacuum/gyro gauges and associated wiring and tubing.  Should help save alot of weight.

This should also greatly reduce the load on my poor ole 582, which is struggling to maintain 10 volts in the air.

This was legit!! That was our local news channel!!!!!! The next night they aired a huge apology. How many people looked at that before it went on the air? That video went viral too...I'm thinking someone probably got fired over that one. And just for the record the third name was Ho Li Fuk. The first time I watched the video was like....oh lord she's gonna say it...but she pronounced it Fook. I'll post the video when I get home from work for those that haven't seen it. And yes Larry you are right!!

Pilot's names released in the San Fran crash
This info was reported by a local TV station in Ca.  Supposedly was verified by the NTSB.  There was a story on the Drudge Report if you want to find the video of the news cast.

Anyway, 4 Aisian pilot's names were listed as Captain  Sum Ting Wong,  We Tu Low,  Ho Lee Kow, and Bang Dang Ow.   Anchor woman read it off with a straight face, and went right on to the next story.

That's great news!  This was clearly a self-defense case - should have never went to court. And the judge was an obnoxious tool.

    Zimmerman found NOT GUILTY!
Finally a criminal court served Justice in America. A well deserved slap to the face of Obama, his department of justice who sponsored Martin support events and the rest of the race baiting ignorant fools and general racists posturing from the political left.

    Let the race riots begin.

Clipper?  Are you Cleet?  He's the owner of the pretty tan Clipper that was there, that's you?

No, I didn't win the landing contest.  I was the Yellow Kitfox that floated past the line by 100'.  I caught a puff of cross wind that floated me a bit...

The beautiful Red and White Kitfox belongs to a good friend of me named Jim, from Mosinee.

We should keep in touch.  I like to meet the people I speak with on the forums!  I'll be back there again...

    Hey, I was there,

Did you win the spot landing contest or your Kitfox counter part in the red/white one? Won at 9'? I qualified at 44' in the Clipper.

I believe about 205 paid lunches. (Helpers/volunteers eat for free and are not included in the count.)

    Plane count was about 47.

Was nice day and turn out.

Oh - Guess I misunderstood what you said - Well, that's good news.If Dean used the standard 150% safety factor, then that is probably why he flew it at 1500 and nothing happened? I'm guessing that he was smart enough to only do that in calm air...
    Thanks,
    EDMO
