About 1986 I bought Chris Henizs first set of floats, aprox 750 lbs, leaked like sives, used bath tub caulking, ask for cg location/ where c/g should be, he didn't know, figure it out for yourself, we'll I did!
I started building float, using his org design improving on it, for lazair550 lbsdis, mong 750 ,renegade1000,avid 1100 and many others on special order.
Pro seal to seal, false bulkheads,025 step, bulkheads etc
The new floats for avid 12'6 " bi 24" deep ( can really rotate of the step without dragging the tails)@ 36 lbs each.
I've found out that there is nothing like being over floated

There's something to be said about a sacrificial annode of sorts - it's easier to replace a bent TW spring then a bent section of fuselage in my humble opinion.

"keep the King Pin vertical". Oh yeah! In it's present state it won't swivel at all.

if the tension on the flap handle is right, is there really a need to make notches and a locking mechanism?  The only time I had issues with mine was when I only had a lock nut on it and it would loosen up.  Since I put a castellated nut on it I have never had it loosen up.

Mine has 2 bolts in it also.  The 2 spring can still slide at the bend point.  A custom 4X4 shop should be able to do the work also.  My first set of springs were not even tempered.  I think someone just went down to the local metal supply shop and grabbed some flat bar and bent them.  The least little thump on the tail wheel would flatten the damn thing right out.. I ordered a set of springs from Airdale (in 08 or 09) and have only bent those when I hit a frozen snomachine track.. but that thump woulda bent ANYTHING I had back there!  Make sure if you have it re-arched, that your geometry is good and the king pin is vertical or steering will suck at best..

    Wakeboarding behind a plane video
Here's something you don't see everyday! This was in Italy and the plane is a kitplane called a Zlin Savage. Speeds were approx 55kts.

Thanks B  - kinda what I had in mind. Pics would be great so to convey the idea to a machinist. The thing is, how do you know if you have the right spring tension?  I must say though, I live in NASCAR country here in NC --- rife w/machine shops. I should be able to get this done and done well.

Oh.....nother thing. As was pointed out above, this does have to be constructed so that the mated leafs are able to slide/move independent of each other right. You mention "extra bolt in back to keep it aligned" -- wouldn't that keep the leafs from sliding independent of each other?

I will second what Joey said   with one little tid bit to add in there.  I don't take advertisers money.  Feel free to post up and show off your cool merchandise and products, however, as this is an open forum, if you put an ill-constructed  POS out on the market and some of the members on here tell the truth about what they think of it, don't come running to me to try and get me to take the post down.

With that being said, those grips looks bad ass!  I may have to get one for my copilots stick.

Go to your local machine shop that can sell you a spring a little wider that what is on there now. Match the length and angle. Drill the hole to match the original so your original lays over the new one. Grind the edge of the slightly wider spring to fit the tailwheel mount. You will need a press to get the bend right. Cost me about 30 bucks and it is superior to the original setup. You do need the extra bolt in back to keep it all aligned. I'll take a pic tonight on my way home. Cheers. B

Great thread. Heres my problem on my C HH:

I have the original single leaf and it's toast.

Calls and email to Airdale are going unanswered.

I need to upgrade my leaf spring. Can anyone direct me to a source? I'm not interested in a spendy solution but a simple upgrade to the leaf spring assy (hopefully making it safer and less loop prone) and retain my solid wheel Maule.

    Thanks,
    Paul

Andy no worries on the post. Thanks for taking the time to join. It's nice to have the vendors themselves here to avoid second hand information and confusion.

Hey fellas  --  I have a new grip for the stick  --  the Ruger ended up being a little "fatter" around the head, so I've decided to switch to this grip for the stick but will still use the AR15 over on the throttle quadrant.  Feels even better than the AR15 -- enough room to accomodate 2 push buttons and a hat switch.  Added a base to the grip for a hand hold as recommended by a friend.  I appreciate the feedback and any references.

And thanks very much to C5Engineer for the original post  --  If this reply sounds too much like an ad (which I guess it is), please let me know and I will remove and repost where advised  --  have not seen any vendor forum here.

    Thank you!

    too funny :)
Two Hill Billies walk into a restaurant and while having lunch, they talked about their moonshine operation,
Suddenly a woman sitting at a nearby table who was eating a sandwich begins to cough,
after a minute or so it becomes real obvious that she is in distress,
one of the hill billies looks at her and ask's " can ya swallar?" the woman shakes her head no,  then he ask's  "kin ya breathe?"
the woman shakes her head no as she is beginning to turn blue
the Hill billie walks over to the woman , lift's her dress, yanks down her drawer's and quickly gives her right butt cheek a lick with his tongue
the woman is so shocked that she has a violent spasm  and the obstruction flies out of her mouth as she begins to breathe again the
hill billie walks slowly back to his table and sits down,,his partner says " ya know I heerd of that thar hind lick maneuver,..but I aint niver seen nobody do it!

Great design.  I'm sure it will work well for that.  Quite a few notches (7) for the flaps, though?

IMO in order to use a "gated" flap control you need a separate trim system.  I'm adding an electric trim tab to mine.  Does your model V have the jack screw h-stab or do you have a trim tab?
