In the Mark IV construction manual, in the engine section, there is a procedure for installing the muffler, that shows the factory mounts for the grey head engine.  Pretty involved set of braces and  clamps, but looks like it would be strong enough and have the engine and muffler moving together.

I came across some pipe mounts for a two stroke dirt bike that would work well in this application too I think although they are a fixed length.

Looks like you already have the info - I thought of this when remembering my 49 Ford and 55 Studebaker that I had to put new exhaust hanger on. The old ones were more of a canvas web strap then - I guess the modern ones are now rubber.
    Hope this helped.
P,S. You can bend the steel strap to give you angle, offset, standoff.

    Bath Towels

Who the frack is the WOMAN who designed modern bath towels???  This has to be a woman.

No man would design a bath towel to have near the same square footage as the average living room carpet.
No man would design a bath towel of some material that is thick enough to insulate your hunting cabin.
No man would design a bath towel to have a decorative band of nonabsorbent material 6" wide on each end.
No man would design a bath towel to have ugly colors that bleed when the towel gets WET!!

This motor mount is the dynasmooth  motor mount.   It absorbs more of the vibration from the two stroke engine then the earlier motor mounts did.  A later, better idea from Avid   Jim Chuk

Can anyone give me measurements from main gear center to nose wheel center on either or both the Avid steerable or the Kitfox castoring nosewheels?
Please give make and model with measurements.
    Thanks,

It's a perforated rubber strap with a steel hanger on the end that uses a u bolt. It may just work perfect for these! It's probly less than 10 bucks at napa.

This one has an open thread over on Team Kitfox right now. The consensus (I agree with) is it is overpriced for what it is. Lots of damage there that will be very costly to repair.

A Lite Squared is a stripped down IV Classic-1200 that was sold as a competition to the Avid Mark IV Bandit. It was intended as an Ultralight Trainer, sort of paired with the new (at the time) Kitfox Lite.

I'm not sure that the Lite squared is 1200gw. The spars could be bent where the strut attaches?
Someone other than me may know about the price.

I think you are right on - no plane flies without fuel and pilot - We were loading Cessnas in Alasks so heavy that the pilot had to get in to put the nose wheel back down and bring the tail up!EDMO

Just a thought, and I don't claim to know anything about 2cycle exhausts:
What about the flexible strap-type, clamp hangers found in auto parts stores, used to hang tailpipes and mufflers? Any way you could suspend it with one or two of those?

You didn't forget to include some fuel and a pilots weight did you?  27 pounds needed on the tail would be pretty unusual.  Empty weight does not have to be within CG limits.

The real weight on the tail wheel is 28 the only way I could get the numbers right is to use 55. so I need to add enough ballast in the tail to get it to 55

It will take at least 2 times as long as the kit manufacturer says it will.  After you build one you will be able to build another in the time advertised.

  25. EDMO added a post in a topic Weight and Balance

Randy,Any WB calculations have to include the arms times the weight when plane is level - I think Avids are the same as Kitfox and all weights and arms are taken from the leading edge of the wings, with the tail in position to level the floor of the cockpit - hang a plumb bob or a weight from the leading edge and measure from the center of that to the center of your tires - unless you have a nose-dragger all arms should be +. If I remember right, you divide the total (arms times weights) by the total weight to get the CG of that configuration.
Your book should show maximum forward and aft CG in wing measurements from leading edge.
P.S. Doug - I cant read the WB calculator you posted because it requires Office, and I don't have that - is there another way you can post it - pbf / pby? / jek / jet? Whatever they call it. jpg? I know there are others, but cant remember the names. Oh, the one with the red shield and what looks like a 3 blade prop on it?
