what camera are you using?  I have been looking for another cam that I can plug the head set into.  years ago I used a suction cup microphone from radio shack on the head set and plugged it into my monster VHS camera for doing inflight videos, but I have not seen one of the smaller helmet cam types with an audio in port on them.

Looks like a good day of flying!

if your flying off the soft rough stuff, the tires your running dont compare to the nanco's  in sand and gravel the nancos are alot easier on the airframe and will get you off the ground quicker as they dont sink in as much.  They are also lighter.  But I agree if your flying off pavement, the 21s you have will last MUCH longer!  It is pretty much the old argument that 90% of the pilots flying supercubs these days would do just fine running 8.50's... but due to the little dick syndrome they have to go out and buyt 35" ABW just to look cool in the hangar and on the apron.

Like Leni said, the Douglass wheels and welded on tabs for the rotors are the easy part.  The hard part is the hubs.  I have yet to see a source for them.

Personally, I don't see the attraction to the 8" wheels.  Yes, ATV tires are cheap, but they don't last very long compared.  The brakes SUCK.  Big time.  You can mod the peddles to help, but they still suck.

I went to  the 6" Grove gear with matching wheels and brakes.  The brakes are far better without any need to mod the peddles.  I am running the 21x800x6 tires which are the same diameter as my ATV tires were.  They will last many times more than the ATV tires at still a reasonable cost ($100 ea).  The brake pads are easy to find and service.  As are the rotors.  Parts replacement do not require machine work or welding.  Everything is off the shelf and readily available.

It's one thing if this is the equipment you have with your plane or Kit and are just building it.  But to go through all the trouble to replicate this setup seems a waste.   To me this is the same old principal of chasing good money after a cheap solution that will eventually cost more than doing the job right the first time.

Ron Smith (other Cowl thread) has the Airdale cowl mold. The one and only as far as I know. It has two different fronts he can mold into it, presumably for differnet engine options. here are the pictures he sent me. He said he would pull the molds out if we need more detailed pics. Keep in mind thes are molds not cowls, so you have to use some imagination.

Ron is contacting Jerry Mattison(sp?) to get more details and is going to get back to me.

I am currently trying to find out how much different the Airdale flyer is than the Flat Avid WRT cowl meeting windscreen and fuselage.

Very interested in the KF 7 cowl fit. Did it look like it would work well? That was an option it recently occurred to me to consider it.

Does anyone know the differences if any between the Fat Avid and the Airdale Flyer WRT cowl fit? It looks like the cowl mold Ron has is for the Airdale.

Here's a couple pictures of the back side of the wheel.  They came in my kit with 3 bolt holes and instructions for the builder to drill the other 3.

    BAD BEER - BAD JOKE!
Guess the South American "INBEV" folks who bought Anheuser Busch Beer Company are not used to our crazy weather in St. Louis.  They must have thought that our weather stories were just a joke.   They decided to cut costs by turning off the heat on the 100 loading dock spaces where the 18-wheelers load up.  Our blizzard took temperatures down to minus 13F this week.  50 loads of Beer froze in the trucks, and now will have to be scrapped.
Glad I stocked up on Bud Lite before the storm!

On the news this morning: a fireman put out a truck fire using Coors beer - bet you cant do that with Pot....
And the forecast for St. Louis is +54F this Sunday.....Yeah!

Nice video and looks like you have got some good land to fly over - We are getting so many tall towers here that you have to dodge them below 2000 msl.   And those short sleeves - must be nice - been 13 below here this week.
    Good Flying,

I hate it when a good thread like this dies with so many questions left on the table! I would have liked to see what he had to say about the issues with the top strap too...I guess I'm just too inquisitive.

    Thanks for the info Doug,
If measuring my cowl, or photos - it is 2 piece - well, now it is one upper and 2 lower, because I had to split the lower down the middle to get it in the trailer when I moved - anyway, if that will help in some way, just ask.  It could be short Kitfox?

Ed - I actually do have to go about this a bit backasswards. The problem being there is no place to purchase either an Avid+ cowl or a 912 engine mount with the standard Avid firewall attach station bushings and pattern. Not to mention, I don't happen to have any spare 912's hanging around the shop at the moment.   I do have detailed 912 engine and ring mount drawings and specs from Rotax. Sooo, I figure first step is to see which currently available cowls have the closest natural fit and require the least amount of modification (I have no desire to fabricate my own cowl set). Next step is to attempt some W&B calcs to see where that places the Rotax ring mount from the FW and fabricate the FW to ring mount myself or, in a perfect world, see if one of the KF 5, 6 or early (short) 7 engine mounts can be used after modifying the Avid FW to the KF attach station bushings. The last option seems to hold the most promise of least fabrication/best W&B but I need to get the KF 5-7 912 FW to ring mount measures to be sure. Also, if anyone has a drawing of a KF 4-7 engine mount showing FW attach point and measures, I would love to have a copy. Thanks!

[edit] the F/G instrument panel was sourced from [old] Airdale and included in my Avid+ kit.

    Doug,
Interesting photos - For 912? - Thought it was strange not to see the engine involved in cowl fit.
I plan on hanging my Soob first and then fitting cowl.
Is that fg IP standard from Avid+ or from Kitfox?

Ed - the Airdale was designed for the Sube FWF and I believe only one cowl option was offered. It had two round nose openings and there is a pic in this thread > http://www.avidfoxflyers.com/index.php?/topic/1325-airdale-build/

You can also see an Airdale Flyer cowl in the pics here > http://members.core.com/~flyboy/airdale.html

Note, this is NOT the same cowl as shown on the www.Airdale.com website under the [Airdale Flyer] link (which then directs to an Airdale 'Backcountry' (which used to be called the Airdale Flyer by the previous owners and was renamed by Brett?). Link > http://www.airdale.com/airdale.htm
