How many members are on this list that would be interested?  Divide $19,500 by that number... you see where I'm going with this?

No the Mark IV didn't fall through yet, but I also haven't had the chance to get my schedule to coincide with the owner to go take a look at it. Also if there is a MK V available I'd be all over a bit better aircraft for a few thousand more $$$$'s. I like to keep my options open. I also don't think that the Mark IV is going anywhere because the owner hasn't posted it up for sale. He contacted me from an ad I have out there looking for one.
Thanks for the info, now to go read about the Pursang.
If you would PM me with information to contact the owner.

Great information. This is what I was thinking when I put it through the paces, but it was just thinking it through rather than doing a lot of math on the forces (which I probably can't really do anyway). I just seems natural that you could reduce the forces transferred into the fuselage by increasing the angle from the cabanes on the inner leg. Hope you can get the other page loaded up.
    Thanks Ed!

That spot works great for storing stuff. The other side has a plastic bag in case anyone gets sick and further back I have a calculator and notebook and an indoor outdoor thermometer. Leni the camera is a drift HD. They sell a cord that plugs right into the camera. It's really quiet though I had to use video software to increase the sound. Doug it's still coming back to me. Surprised no one noticed the porpoise on the last landing. I just about when around on the second bounce.

Good info and it is exactly what my engineering buddy told me also.  I am not sure why the guys that built the spring gear didn't look more closely at copying the cub gear as it seems to have worked quite well for the last 70 yrs without buckling the fuse sides.

I have a copy of the Pazmany Landing gear book, and was looking for the Storch gear setup - He didn't put it into this book because it is in the other book of Storch plans he sold.
However, I did find some drawings with angles and forces for the cabane spring type gear.  Seems like when the angle between the gear leg and the cabane leg is increased from 15 degrees to 28 degrees, the forces are a lot less.
If anyone wants this posted, just say so, and I will attempt to post it.

Thats awesome news Chris ,I dont feel quite as bad now, hope they work out for you guys,  I had to do quite a bit of fiber glassing to make the wider  cowl work but had no other options  ,now as long as I don't have to cut out to much  adjusting the thrust line up i'll be happy

Great to know Chris! Me thinks Ron Smith might suddenly see his Tomash judgment spoils paying dividends again soon. Just hope he is reasonable with his prices if he decides to put them to use and sell direct. Some KF parts prices are through the roof crazy, at least Ron is not trying to fund an aircraft co. in increasingly litigious times.

Well, in many regards it is a good fit. The rear edge of the KF7 boot cowl lines up perfectly with the front door frame (note in my pics that I have the whole cowl blocked forward just a bit which might lead one to believe the cowl is not long enough to reach, which is not the case). Also, the windshield curve looks to be nearly perfect, although that is not a big issue as I already plan to attach the lower edge of the windshield to a curved metal support strip rather than bond it to the glare shield or boot cowl. I am in the process of replacing the windshield in my Aerotrek which was bonded to the boot cowl AND the glare shield and I could skin the idiot who decided that was a good idea. Even the lip rake looks very close, but the major problem is that KF lengthened the 912 engine mount and FWF kit for the model 7 and, as a result, that cowl is very, very long.

Grafting an entire KF7 FWF to the lighter Avid+ frame results in an unworkable W&B. If you use your existing (shorter) Avid 912 engine mount, I suppose you could shorten up the top and bottom split cowls but that is a whole lot of work due to the taper of the 912 cowl. Much less modification for you if you just use a KF 5/6 version 912 smooth cowl. Not sure the differences in measure from FW to prop flange for your existing 912 engine mount from Avid vs. the KF 5/6 mount (do you have the one pictured in the attachment?), but it would be a lot closer.

In my case, I still need to find, fabricate or modify an engine mount anyway so that's why I was leaning to the smooth cowl and engine mount from the KF 5/6 912 FWF. Would be easy for me to add a few new engine mount attach bushings to my firewall and adjust thrust line height for the KF engine mount. Now that the Airdale Flyer cowl mold has been located (good work!), I am very interested in learning more. I've been too busy to pick up the phone but if the $$ are right and fit is better than the KF 5/6 cowl (and I think it will be) I just might do that. Would also give me the incentive to forego the KF engine mount and fabricate something similar to the 912 engine mount in my Aerotrek, I like the rubber FW donuts and integrated nose gear weldment. Very clean, efficient FWF on that plane, IMHO. In fact, I bought the Aerotrek to use the FWF on the Avid+, but decided to repair it instead.

Again, great job finding the molds Chris. Please let me know if Ron can pull some measures off the molds for us.

Thanks guys for the Airdale Soob cowl info - If I cant make the Raven / Kitfox work, then this looks like a possible fit.

I'm beginning to see that it wouldn't be worth the trouble for me to source all the parts and go that route. Especially after a very late night/early morning insomniac attack gave me time to do five hours of research for hubs with no real good answer other than it would be cheaper to build my own by far. Now if I just had a lathe....
If I was flying in AK I would probably go this route but for me I guess it makes more sense to just stick to paying a little more for tires.

what camera are you using?  I have been looking for another cam that I can plug the head set into.  years ago I used a suction cup microphone from radio shack on the head set and plugged it into my monster VHS camera for doing inflight videos, but I have not seen one of the smaller helmet cam types with an audio in port on them.

Looks like a good day of flying!
