Av8r3400 added a post in a topic Cessna on its nose after hitting skydivers chute on runway
The LZ was on or near the airport, right? That means the airport should be CLOSED to aircraft operations of any sort while the jumpers are in the air or under canopy. This period only lasts a few minutes per jump. Stop and wait. Parachute operations are far from totally controlled flight. Any competent pilot should know this and expect the unexpected during the process.
A jumper out of position is no excuse. The jumper has the right of way. Sorry. Pilots fault. Period.

Av8r3400 added a post in a topic Motorcycle Twin Radiators for cheek rads?
The photo above that I posted, the air enters the opening and has to leave the cavity through the radiator. This slows the air moving through the radiator to slow enough to allow the heat to transfer more efficiently.

Yes. Most of these springs are not heat treated and can be re-arched fairly easily.

Maybe the last ride of the season.
We see here Darth Vader seated upon his matching blacked out steed...
For the record, now that I have fitted it, I love that Mod2 helmet.

EDMO added a post in a topic Got the first coat of pink on yesterday...
I remember those pink things! They were the "ultimate-fashon" replacement.....Everyone in Hollywood had them, and some even had gold plated ones!..........Much better than the old outhouse tho!

But, who among us is "man-enough" to fly a pink plane?

BTW, I just got word that the insurance company has totaled my friend's Luscombe - The $25K repair job was so bad than no other company would bid on fixing the bad repairs - and the pilot who flew it up damaged the tail and tailwheel mount - just waiting on $35K check now. And, they did get the Colt out of the Lake. That CFI actually wrecked 2 planes on that trip!

akflyer added a post in a topic Sling seat rear tube cable
I just used small cordage and laced it up using a clove hitch about every 5th or 6th wrap in case the cord broke it would not just come fulling unwrapped. You can adjust the tightness of the lacing to lower of raise the seat. I let mine out as low as I could get it and still have the control arms clear my butt when I sat in the seat and wiggled the stick. Do the same for the front side of seat to adjust your leg position on the pedals.
I swapped my sling seat for a fiberglass one, but in reality, the sling seat was more comfortable I think and it was a hell of a lot lighter. I may make another one using a different foam and go back to the sling seat.

I would alsmost bet that the ones on the Pursang are AC parts that Stratus used, not heater parts.
I have never understood the horizontal rad working - air is not supposed to turn 90 degrees - but it may be trapped.
My Soob has a VW Rabbit rad which was placed at an angle below the firwall and inside the cowl.
Rans had one at the top of firewall angled, and many little vents in the top cowl.
Whatever works - works!

As Ed said, from the news report I saw this AM the parachutist drifted out of the LZ and across the runway where he really should not have been. The pilot saw him at the last second drift in front of him and stomped the rudder and pulled up to try and keep from taking the guys head off with the wing. Seems like a shitty situation all the way around that in hind site could have possibly been avoided, but this could have turned out MUCH worse!

I would say that the ones in the link above are very close to the ones in the Pursang for size, although I'd be willing to bet they are much lighter. In my installation they are held off the engine by heater hose, connected to solid mounts on either end, so that basically about two inches of hose insulates the vibration from the engine and everything. There are three pieces of hose per radiator. They work really well and I haven't seen above 180 degrees at any time, even after a climb to 11,500 from 5,000' at full throttle the day before yesterday. Admittedly the temp on the ground was only about 60 degrees but I was still impressed it worked that well.

lostman added a post in a topic Finally got my Ivo front plate
Seems you guys have a love hate relationship with IVO, love the props, hate the prices? I can appreciate the extra performance gains but the price is prohibitive for us after just buying the plane.
I'm seriously thinking about making a two blade wood prop though, I'm pretty sure I can get something to work as good as or better than most fixed bladed ones that I could purchase. I'm a little worried about spending that kind of money on a prop only to have issues with it. If anyone has learned something about me from the Pursang, it's that I also have the stupidest things happen to me, if it can go wrong, it will to me!

lostman added a post in a topic tail wheel springs
While we are on this subject I noticed after trying to install a Matco tailwheel on Pursang that it was not arched enough. IFMT talked about getting his done at a local machine shop. Does that mean you can just put them in a press and slight add arch to the bend to re-arch? I've never really thought about doing it that way. It would be nice to know instead of having to send it off to be done by some a spring shop.

C150L added a post in a topic Airventure 2014
My brother has been back and fourth, to and from SanFran numerous times and he always goes ATW>MSP>SanFran (don't recall ID) ATW is about 20 minutes to the north of Oshkosh.
I'll get there at least 2 days, as per normal. Right foot has been bothering me for some time now and EAA 2013 was a most painful Airventure. Have to take it a day at a time this year.

Got the first coat of pink on yesterday......and the wife is happy, happy, happy that I finally started her winter project renovating the kids bath!
I got the new, bigger tub plumbed, tile backer up and [pink] waterproof membrane rolled on. Trust me, use some latex gloves if you don't want to spent the next two days picking that pink stuff off your fingers.
Ironically, the old bath tub and tile were pink
...and the infamous 'pink throne', less said the better!
...and you thought I was talking about aircraft covering now weren't ya? Hehe!

Av8r3400 added a post in a topic Cessna on its nose after hitting skydivers chute on runway
People keep saying what a good job the pilot did to avoid the parachutist. I don't understand this position. He shouldn't have even been in the same area as a parachutist! Why in the hell would you be doing touch-and-gos on a runway that is conducting parachute ops without knowing exactly where the jumpers are?
The pilot is totally at fault, no question in my mind. He should loose his piloting privileges and be heavily fined. A lawsuit by the parachutist on the pilot would not be in any way frivolous, IMO.

Scary!
Pilot and chutist both in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some things happen so fast, don't they. Both lucky.

Cessna on its nose after hitting skydivers chute on runwayI guess everyone has seen this by now - if not, then you should watch FOXnews - Fantastic photos - quick action by pilot saved skydiver, but really took a hit when he nosed the Cessna into the ground!
Both were lucky to not have major injuries or be killed.
Pilot was 87?

EDMO added a post in a topic Subaru Compression Ratios - and WHAT IS EA-71?
I cant tell you right now what is needed for the manifold to fit after milling the heads - I know that has been done to mine, but the guy who did it is dead. I do have some papers he sent me a long time ago - somewhere I have some old issues of CONTACT magazine where RFI was making the conversions and telling how to do it.
If I can find and info on the manifolds I will post it or PM it to you.
One suggestion I might have for you is to contact Subaru Service Dept. and see if they will tell you if any difference in the 1800 pistons in the years that I have posted.
You know that when you increase the compression ratio from 8.7 to over 9.0, you will probably have to use a mid-grade or higher octane gas.
I will look for the valve info, but Subaru might give you that info. If you have hydraulic lifters, you should have the larger valves too.
Are you going to have the cam reground to raise the torque from 2400 rpm up to about 3600 like Stratus does?
EdMO
Added: If there are washers under the rocker arm posts, then that is an indication that the heads have already been milled.
