Except for (4) tiny corner pieces I still need to cut, I finally got the tile in the tub surround knocked off this weekend. It's been quite a while since I did any tile work and now I remember how much more of a P.I.T.A. doing walls is. Much slower going vs. slapping down floors!

Of course, the Chief Decorator wanted some decorative tile work too, but none of that pre-backed stuff that goes up quick and easy matched or met with her approval. Sooo... I ended up having to cut a bunch of tile to make my (her?) own accent band. Took a while to complete working only a couple hours at a time, but we're pretty happy with the result.

I made one little mistake I wish I could have back, can you spot it?

    hello again,

Special thanks to all of you for your help.  I looked at the plane yesterday and I was amazed.  Usually when you look at a barnstormer's ad there's some sort of issue.  The seller doesn't want to sell, the plane spent two years on a salt flat, it jsut exploded etc...   With your help, I've found several hundred Model C Avid's still flying.  I jsut need to find record of three completed sales, and I'll be one of your newest members!.

UPDATE: The product has been re-engineered and we're manufacturing a new strobe & wig-wag controller (yes, in America) that hit the street last year, allowing all sorts of light combinations including any LED and some incascent bulbs including your Vision X lamps.   Please verify the current draw requirements (max 5 AMPS per output side) but you can get the controller only for $26, and new LED lights that can be paired with the kit below including the new mini BULLET LED lights, they're a ton of recognition lighting for such a small package:

This is how I plumbed my single tank. No vent from the header tank.

I needed to jack up the Avid the other night and found that a good piece of angle iron and two large C clamps worked really well on the Grove gear. I just clamped them on at tight as I could and used a 20 ton bottle jack (it's just what I had with me).

I really like the tripod idea. I am needing to pull the left gear off the plane and that would be the ticket to doing that correctly.

I was out working on the plane for a few hours today and remembered to get a couple pictures of the way my fuel lines run.
The first two are of the Avid wing tank (if I remember what John told me correctly), the third is of the Kitfox tank.

    Hope this helps!

    Travis -

I used KF wing tanks in my Avid Mk-IV so plumbing was different so, sorry, no pics from me. However, I'll take a stab at your question verbally. The following is recollection from several years ago when I saw my first ever local Avid Flyer, a Model C Speedwing w/582. The builder did a number of nice, not-in-the-manual custom touches and the fuel line routing was one of them. It looked to be a pretty clean workaround for tank sumps and fuel outlets on the underside of the tanks.

As I recall, the fuel lines ran into the cabin through a custom made grommet incorporated in the fabric just in front of and below the rear spar carry thru tube. Kind of right at the tip of the triangular side windows ahead of the vertical rear door frame post. The grommet was made of your typical circular round rubber grommet with an i.d. equal to the fuel hose. This rubber grommet had a slot or groove around the outer circumference that fit into a round hole in a small square of UHMW sheet. The UHMW sheet was sandwiched into the fabric with reinforcing tape prior to painting and looked just like it always belonged there, not some afterthought or ugly add on. The line from the right tank went thru a shut off either zip tied or somehow or other mounted to the door post with no filter into the header tank. The line from the left tank went along the rear carry through using graduated standoffs made of clear plastic tubing to ensure proper downhill slope, and thru another shut off either zip tied or somehow other mounted to the door post aside the other with no filter into the header tank.

    Clear as mud, eh?

[edit] So based on cert issue date, there may have been some truth this was a recent purchase or a new plane to the pilot. That is not to insinuate that he may have been a poor or inexperienced pilot, I certainly won't speculate. FWIW, I also see he did have another E-AB plane currently registered. A 1992 built Lyc 0-290 powered EAA Biplane Model P, sounds fun whatever that little bugger is.

The classic "impossible turn", stall-spin scenario?  Very sad.  God's speed to a fellow aviator and his family.

I leave my ski axles on all year and use them if I need to "jack" the plane up.  (they are a second set of axles to the inside of the spring)

Otherwise I have a tripod stand that goes under the lift strut wing attachment point and just lift up the plane by hand and slide the tripod under it.

    ChrisB,
One of our members in Alaska bought a plane with those same colors - maybe it had been listed on Barnstormers.

WASHINGTON, Pa. —A former Ukrainian champion figure skater who died Tuesday after crashing a small plane at the Washington County Airport is being remembered for his contributions to the sport.
Photos: Plane crash at Washington County Airport A pilot suffered serious injuries Tuesday afternoon after a small plane crashed at the Washington County Airport.
More Igor Novodran, 52, of Upper St. Clair, died at UPMC Presbyterian hospital late Tuesday. No one else was in the plane.
Novodran was widely known as a figure skating coach at the Robert Morris University Island Sports Center on Neville Island.
    VIDEO: Watch Amber Nicotra's report
"He was a great coach to kids that he coached in Pittsburgh and very driven," said Beth Sutton, skating director at the RMU Island Sports Center. "Igor had a really good heart and should be remembered as a good guy and a great coach."
According to emergency dispatchers, the single-engine plane was attempting to land about 2 p.m. when it crashed onto its roof and rolled down a hillside.
"The gentleman was out practicing touch-and-go landings. (He) started somewhere around 2 o’clock. Shortly after 2 o’clock, we had word that the aircraft was down. We found the aircraft where it sits now, down below the runway. It appears that he was in a turn coming back towards the runway. We didn’t see it, so we’re not exactly sure what happened," said the airport's executive director, Scott Gray.
Fire crews said the front of the 1998 Avid Bandit aircraft was destroyed and the cockpit badly damaged.

I mad my axles longer on the inside so I can use that for a jack point when going from whels to skis.  if I need to do anything else I just use an engine hoist and pick the plane from the top.

    Jacking your Bird...
Just to be clear, I am referring to all the different (best?) ways y'all have jacked your plane up off the ground.

I've seen some good, some downright foolish and dangerous. I used an automotive floor jack and 2x6 between the spring gear legs to raise my 4-1200, then set it down on a couple wooden braces for safety and stability while swapping out tires.

    Project 64.5 Mustang
Well since we have some gearheads on here I thought I better post up some pics of my "other project" that I've been devoting time to lately. This car is a Dearborn MI born true 64 1/2 Mustang. It was originally a D Code with a 289 and it's still rocking the generator. It currently has a mildly built 302 in it but it's tired. This car looked pretty decent and had a disc brake conversion and power steering. I had looked at about 15 before this one came along. We wanted one that we could enjoy right away but still work on and restore and it seemed like most of them either needed everything done yet $$$$$ or were show cars $$$$. This one was kind of in between but it's been a basket case in it's own way. I just recently rewired the entire interior and did a makeover of it in the process by restoring the gauges, and putting in a new dash pad, new center console with a custom touch, and some LED lighting.

Enough blabbing...on to pics. I will try and keep the thread updated as it's about to get interesting. I have a Ford Racing 306 crate motor sitting at one of our members house in Sparks Nevada (Thanks again Dan).

    This thing needs to go

Just a few of the many mystery surprises I've found along the way. Not sure what the intention of this thingy was but it was cross threaded down it's entire length.

    Some sweet wiring

This cobbled together mess was holding the drivers seat together.

I had a custom plate built to house my stereo and gauges in the center console. I think it came out really nice.

Mines going back to Rotax Rick after this season. It has 330 on the top end and 440 TT. I was flying it a mile offshore over the Pacific Ocean last Saturday. The stator died and required me to pull the motor about 100 hrs ago but that's the only issue I've had with it.
