Also, I have set Topscale function to ON. Any reason you all have it off?

Guys, I'm still having trouble with the RPM function.

I identified the proper polarity then spliced the Rotax rev counter feed from the engine and connected to the proper input on the MGL E-1. The E-1 has a direct ground to the engine as required. On my initial E-1 RPM function setup, which was exactly the same values as Jerry showed except for high/low alarm thresholds, the tach read high. I had to change the Pulse/Rev value from 1.0 to 4.0 to get the correct RPM reading. Why would that be?.

Additionally, the value was jumping around pretty good so I played with the Filter: Scale input. I had written in my notes that typical base value = filter 10-30, which is what I tried, but that didn't seem to make much difference. So back at home I decide to actually [RTFM], and see that filter value should be set to 140 when using Scale: 7000.

Obviously, I will try that filter value next time at the plane, although I wonder if I will need to increase that by a factor of x4 because of my 4.0 Pulse/Rev value?? Hmm, can I even input a filter value of 560?? Manual shows 380 RPM max with Scale: 19000.

In any event, Jerry's screen shots didn't show his RPM filter setting. What filter settings have Rotax 912 drivers / E-1 users find work best for them?

For the moment, I have (3) tachs in the cockpit and all read different. Interestingly, the oem Rotax analog rev counter reads closer to the E-1 than my TinyTach. Now I need to find a prop tach to find out which is most accurate!

    Thanks again.

They have an email list and periodically send eblast notification for sales, etc. I rec'd this sale email on 6/3/14 myself, but noticed no spar tubing included so I didn't mentioned it. If you've purchased in the past from Wicks online, you have the ability to modify your 'Profile' online to receive notices like this. Alternatively, there's a contact listed on the email you might simply send a request to have your name added: ericc@wicksaircraft.com

    Mark,

Thanks for posting that up! Where did you find it? I live within 15 miles of Wicks so that is a great way to go. Guess I need to figure out what I need and see if they have any of it on the sale. I wish they had the 1/2" and some 1" stuff on sale that would work for me though.

Glad to hear that you can make a 582 out of the 532 according to Leni - wonder what the cost of that would be?
At least that makes it worth a little more than a boat anchor!!!!

The supplier here said they could not get it.  I found some place online last year to order it, but shipping to here was a show stopper.  I will look on the other computer and see if I have the place I found book marked.

Wicks has a 4130 sale on right now. I don't see the 2.5"x.083 on the list, but here is a link to the list:

I put about 60 hrs on a 532 in an Avid B model before I sold that plane.  I had new seals put in it when I got it as it had never been apart since new.  It ran good, and the points ignition made it easy to hand prop.  I liked it!  Jim Chuk

    Leni,

I'm on the search for the .083 aluminum tubing now too. Did you ever find any supplier for this? I need enough to redo the right wing as I'm sure you've probably already seen on the other post.

My Avid was running a lawn and garden battery like Jim has. I also had a small motorcycle battery as a backup for my secondary ignition system, not that you need that though.

I have been running with a 532 for more than 40 hours and I can´t complain about the engine, I had problems with the ignition but was solved thanks to a gentleman here, I Was flying last summer together with a friend  and his avid 582, and we were both about the same in every possible way, his fuel consumption was better than mine, but I Think it was because I didn´t calibrate my carb as good as his.

downside ---is a OLD engine regardless of how new in the box you get it.
pros--- cheapper than a rotax 582 in cost and maintenance as well...

I bought a second 532, because it was cheap and I can now have to running engines.

I ran a 360 CCA lawn tractor battery in my Avid with a Jabiru which takes way more power to spin than a 582.  It was about $35 on sale.  I will do it again when I get the plane flying again. Jim Chuk

GEZZZ!!! that island is Heligoland, north Germany, is located 225 Miles south West of my location, RNWY 21 is only 420 meters long(1360ft), NOW what the flying FU£$ is he doing taking sun bath at the threshold of a runway?? not enough sand in that beach??

I fly same plane as this and I wouldn´t land in 420m RNWY at any given time, even with head winds...

    I LOVE MY AVID FLYER!!!!

FYI... The Odyssey PC535 and PC625 are both 6.70L" x 3.90"W. The only size difference is the height, 6.24" vs. 6.95". However, both are rated 200CCA so I chose the PC535 because it is over 1lb. lighter and the price a little easier to swallow. Plus, it afforded better specs overall vs. my old battery, which seemed quite sufficient turning over my 912ul until it fizzled.

    Odyssey spec comparison attached.

My Aerotrek wing tanks are aluminum and designed to 'float' on the spars with a drag tube passing thru. Seems to be working ok, no issues within the fleet that I am aware of.

    Allonsye,

Yes I briefly put the plane up for sale. Mostly because my wife, who actually owned it, didn't like the way it handled. She wanted something that felt more conventional in the controls. It did have the Subaru engine and it's actually usable again, despite it being the reason we went down.

I know what you mean about assessing the risk involved. I'm not sure my wife is very with me on the idea of rebuilding. She knows I've escaped death twice in bad accidents, both from low level engine losses. This time she was along. She's basically told me I'm on borrowed time, and that wasn't a threat from her!

    Thanks for the good wishes.

I wasn't thinking about the flex of the wings being the issue. That makes much more sense.

This makes me wonder about the handling characteristics of Pursang too. I found out yesterday that one wing had .1003 wall spars and the other has .083. That might make enough of a difference to actually throw off the way it would bank in each direction......hmmm.
