    Robert,
I have the crazedPilot Wig-Wag lights but have never used them, and someone else on here has used them and liked them. They are not landing lights!
As far as the bullet light - I bought 2 similar lights and tried to post some photos of them on the technical section some time ago - they don't put out much light, and you sure wouldn't come close to being "legal" for night flights with them.
    Hope this helps.
I think I have a Grimes? tail light I could sell, but have to check on it - maybe not? - don't have the weld-in mount, but you can buy it from Spruce or Wicks. If I can find the light and have an LED bulb that fits, I would include it.  I cant fly at night on my drivers license anyway.
AFTERTHOUGHT:  If you find a pair of position lights with the rear-facing white light, then you don't need a light on the tail to be legal.

pics would be great. I'm still very open to ideas. I found some nice lights by Aveo Engineering but wow such a big price tag for such a small part. I'm looking at these http://www.crazedpilot.com/bullet-led-tiny-high-output-landing-strobe-light/now.I could put a couple on in different areas and still afford lunch afterwards. what do you guys think anyone have experience with them.

@ Ed - The Radiator (heater core) is a Earl's Cooler core sized at 5 x 13", the two fans were on the Mangy Fox original setup with two small radiators.  They are approximately 4-1/2" diameter computer box fans.  I don't have an exact weight on the assembly, but I'd estimate it at 4 pounds.

@Paul - The first step in the process is sandblasting.  Then fresh powder is applied.

I used AN42B bolts for the 4 attach points but I dont have a picture of the spreader bar.

I have a strobe on the top of my vert.  I drilled a hole in the tube for the wires and then used structural adhesive and 2 sheet metal screws to mount and fair in a flat plate for the strobe mount.  5 yrs of living outside and beating the snow and ice off it and she is good as the day I put it on.  I dont have any good pics of it but can try to remember to get some when I get home from work in a couple weeks.

I've never seen a fuel shutoff mounted on the panel.  Good out of the box thinking!  Out to make flow checks a bit easier.

Also, excuse my ignorance, but how do you powdercoat over powdercoat?

Spruce has replacement LED bulbs, but they are priced too high, like $32 each? - I tried to find some cheap LED bulbs on ebay some time ago, and think I found some that are single contact and might work - been so long I have forgotten, but think they had 9 LEDs on them for back-up lights.
Not real sure that any of them are "legal", but who is going to challenge them?

    Tail lights
I'm working to make my Avid night legal. mostly for safety to just be seen better. I already made the necessary changes to the wingtips and wiring for the nav lights so good there. what I'm working on now is the light on top of the vertical stabilizer. there doesn't seem to be too much out there that I can find on this. I know some of you are running one how is it mounted and faired in to look nice and be aerodynamically clean? I see this for a mount seems easy enough to add in. or is there something else that would be better? also still looking for an LED light to go here.pics of what some of you have done would be great.

    Thanks Robert

I had a case of CO poisoning once - Went to hospital and spent a long time with them taking blood samples out of veins deep in my wrist every 30 minutes for what seemed like hours - hurt like hell - spent the night on oxygen - the bill was about $3000, and that was 30 years ago...I am not going thru that again, so will use a hot-water heater even if it weighs 13 pounds.
What kind of rad and fans did you use, and how much weight - any defroster setup?

what tire size are you going to be running? this will change the overall width of the gear. My Avid sits just sky of 8' outside to outside. I just built a custom gear for a KF IV that will sit about 7 1/2' outside to outside. we are both running the 21x12x8 tires to get this measurement.

I use eye bolts on the 4 wing attach points and a spreader bar to lift mine.

I have a thermostat downstream of the heater core. This will eliminate the outside radiator from the loop if it's too cold outside. Plus realistically speaking I don't fly if it's much below 10-15 degrees f. I have near an identical system, less the thermostat in my yellow plane and it works very well. Plus, if it works in your car, why not in the plane.

I don't care for exhaust system heating due to the possibility do exhaust influx. It's just kinda my hang up.

I've seen my buddy with a Rans s7 do this a couple times. He uses the engine mount to lift the front, tied to his hangar door.

Brett McKinney set up three tripod jacks, one at each wing to strut joint and the third on the tail to do the process.

Removing floats for the winter, putting gear on - information requested
    All,
I will be removing the floats on my Avid and putting on the bungee gear, so I can fit it into the garage for the winter. I have watched a video on the procedure for a kitfox. Chain hosted the nose while supporting the tail.

    Question
What would be the best lifting point on the nose?
    Any other tips greatly appreciated.

I'm kind of wondering about the benefits or lack thereof in using a radiator for cabin heat versus a muffler shroud. I never have had a radiator system, but have made a muffler shroud on a 582, and a Jabiru that worked very well. My thoughts are like this. The colder it gets, the more you need the heat. The colder it gets, the less excess heat the engine will produce for the radiator. As long as the engine is running, the muffler will be hot, whatever the outside temp. Not trying to start an argument, just trying to stimulate a discussion that I can learn from. Like I said, I've never used a radiator system, and want to know if they would be better than the shroud. Thanks, Jim Chuk

Welcome Bill! I haven't been on BCP in a few days so not sure if you PMed me back but sounds like you are on the right track. John flew that airplane 2600 hrs with a 582. Would sure be a lot easier of an install. Your CG is going to be the biggest issue with the Franklin. Move your battery and ELT to the tail and that will help minimize the lead in the tail. Even my airplane with a 582 sits on the forward end of the range. Good luck with the rebuild. Take some time to look thru the files and forms area. You will find builders manuals, checklists, condition inspection checklists, differences between models, etc.
