Nice paint job Doug - Do you remember if the bolt is still 3/16, or did they change it to 1/4?
Is this the plane you parted out?
    Thanks,

Well, found these pics of my KF3 but you will need some kind of super zoom eyesight or ability to blow them up to see the elevator fork.

    Doug,

Yes the turtledeck is only plexi.
Yes, making the fiberglass removable is the smart way to go, and if guys like Ed are going to use the Magnum cowls it overlaps on the bottom edges. So you could easily make a removable panel.
You are right, making mods, or repairing the side trusses is almost impossible once all the cowls are Fiberglassed in place.

Well, SOL on finding the later model elevator fork to get a photo - This may not have been used on the model 2, but I know by model 4 it was used. Shouldn't be too hard to convert your single strap into a double strap and change to a rod end on the push-pull elevator tube.My Kitfox 4 manual does not have a very good picture of it.
Maybe someone else can post a photo?

Murle Williams sells a nice aluminum belly radiator. Mine is flush mounted but I also have the side scoop radiator running in series. Hoping to get rid the side radiator sometime this year. I have been putting it off because of the fiberglass work redoing the cowl.

They were around a long time. I've never heard anything but bad things about the way they make a 582 run. Peaky power, chasing EGTs, things of that nature. If your only planning to run wide open all the time I imagine it would work pretty good. The boring Rotax muffler design prevents the 2-stroke from "coming on the pipe" like a dirt bike or snowmobile. This makes operating the engine in the mid range possible.

    R&D Tuned Pipe
There is a guy on ebay with what he calls an R&D Tuned Pipe for the 582 and he claims it makes 80 hp at 5800rpm, Is this true and does anybody know who R&D company is, I cant seem to find them.

    Tjay,
Mine was mounted flush with fuse, I lowered it about an inch and it did improve the cooling.

Hi ED the 582 532radiator should be the same?I can't find the site at the moment but I recall a 2stroke runs best between 60 to80c.

Should we be having a conversation about boundary layer? Same reason the scoop on a P51 is a way from the fuselage.

I have been talking to Ron's Fiberglass, and he says that the MkIV and smaller Avids don't have the fiberglass fuselage boot cover / floor pan like the magnum - is this correct?EDMO

Ron... sorry if I missed it, but is the Magnum t-deck a one piece plexi cover or aluminum sheet fabrication with plexi/poly window inserts? If the former, I would definitely want thicker than .060" for a one piece. I think Joey has one on his plane, perhaps he can confirm thickness. Could always add a standoff support from the horizontal tubing above the baggage area, I did this on my Mk-IV to keep the aluminum t-deck from rattling etc.

Also, I really do like the molded lip in the Magnum boot cowl. Makes for a super clean line to the cowls. I think, however, I would try to make it removable with Dzus fasteners for the reasons you mentioned. Perhaps cut off the fiberglass under door sill portion (following the tube running between the lower front door frame corner to the front gear attach point) then fabric and paint that area just like the smaller Avids. Would likely need to add a lower windscreen edge support and a few new tabs, but well worth the work IMHO. Speaking from experience, my Aerotrek has a fixed boot and it has proved to be a royal P.I.T.A. during recent repairs. Maybe you remember those "pay me now or pay me later" commercials? So true.....

I was thinking that it would be possible to attach the boot cowl with machine screws.
You would have to cut thru the fabric on the Kitfox unless you cover the bottom with aluminum. I don't like fabric that close to the engine and exhausts.
I didn't realize that the Boot was permanently glued to the fuselage -= guess I need to read my Magnum manual again!

    Willis and TJay,
I have a busy day today, but will try to get to the shop and post a photo of the elevator fork used on the model 2 and later. It should be easy to put a joggle on the model 1 single strap and bend another and rivet the two together to make the fork, then just swap a rod end for the fork on the push tube.
The good thing about the later model is that the bolt no longer gets any wear.
