When that B-25 was here they only wanted $250, I think, for a ride. I know it was substantially in excess of $100.

I have a brother 16 months younger than me. I can remember many times our mother would reach the limits of her patients and sternly say, "just go outside!".

There is a place here in Colorado Springs restoring a couple of P-38s. I haven't checked it out yet, but it is right by Peterson AFB. Just ask at any airfield in C Springs and somebody will know where it is.
Also, June 6, 2015 in Pueblo, CO the Pueblo Weisbrod Museum is having a family fun day and there will be a B-25 from the Commemorative Air Force giving rides. I believe they charge for the ride, but it should cost too much. There is a young Eagles rally that day in Pueblo too that my chapter is putting on. So if you are hauling the Kids through Colorado this Summer there are some good stops!

    Another impressive two stroke flyer
Can anyone name this plane. Appears to be a tandem with great performance. This type of flying is right up my alley and his strips are what we routinely land on around here.

    That thread fell flat.

    1) Inquiring minds want to know if the carb cleaning did the trick. Did you get the rough idle worked out?

2). Is the 582 enough power for you? I'm in the same boat, and the price point of a 2 stoke Avid is very appealing. I'm digging deep to find a clean Mark IV.

Mine didn't have pedals, but I hear they are not as effective as T-tails rudders.I carried my P38 in my wallet for years, until they got fussy at the airports - think I may still have it? I lost a lot in my house fire, but still carry one of my dogtags, which is about 56 years old now.
I can get a hanger about 50 miles from home, nearest airport is 25 miles.

Looking good!  Keep at it.  I'm making up a new panel for my Avid rebuild as well,  Laid everything out on a piece of cardboard, but didn't cut anything yet.  Incredibly clean shop by the way!  LOL  ;-)   Jim Chuk

I should have posted this pic right after the picture of the walker with the nose wheels, but better late than never. Here is a tricycle geared rig I built for the grandson. He will be 3 on May first. We were both playing with it last week trading turns riding it, but for some reason I started to sit on it backwards and stearing with my hands behind me while he tried to push me. Good thing I have about 550 hrs flying tailwheel Avids. Nearly ground looped it anyway.... Jim Chuk

Hi all, thanks for the comments.  Leni, I agree a scarf joint is better, but my reasoning was I will have 1 1/2" overlap on each side of the joint with the scabs (one on each side of the rib) and they are both 1/4" thick just like the rib.  It's also hard to do the scarf joint and get it exact with the angles on the replacement rib, top and bottom.  Doug, I figured the scabs were big enough being as how they were on both sides of the rib.  Also, once they are glued in place, I will use a straight edge from the original surviving ribs across the new ribs to mark them for cutting.  That way things should end up straight.  (I hope )  )  Bill, I saved you for last, cause I have some pics of how the ribs are made, and how I once repaired a busted rib tail without messing with the fabric.  First three pics show a standard rib.  The top and bottom capstrips are 1/8" plywood, and the center (verticle part) is 1/4" plywood.  As you can see in the pictures, the bottom capstrip is slotted so that it goes on each side of the center section for the last 5 inches or so.  I cut the 1/4" verticle part of the rib with a saber saw as close to the cap strip as I dared, and cut it off about 2" vertically from the spar.  Then I went after the slivers that were left with a heat gun and a chisel and a Stanley knife to get the rest of the center part of the rib removed.  However..... if all you have is a busted rib tail, usually at the inner bolt hole where the flaperon hanger mounts, you might want to try what I did in the next three pictures.  I didn't mess with the fabric, but cleaned up the paint on the sides of the exposed tail part of the rib, and glued on two 1/4" thick pieces, one on each side.  I trimmed them just a tiny bit so the flaperon hanger could slide between them and the reglued in the piece of the busted off rib tail.  Glued them all together and put a few 10/32 truss head machine screws in to hold while the glue (T88) set and for a bit of extra holding afterwards, and flew it for probably 300 hrs afterwards.  It survived the crash that busted off the other two on the same wing.  Actually I'm debating whether to mess with it or leave it the way it is.  I think it's stronger than the original single piece, and it's out at the tip of the wing where it's more  likely to get bumped then the rest of them.  Hope this makes sense.  Didn't mean to write a book when I started this reply, but Orielly isn't on for another hour anyway! )    Jim Chuk

PS  On the rib I repaired with the doublers on each side, it was cracked off probably half way between the inner hole for the flaperon hanger, and the truss head machine screw in front of that open hole.  When I looked at the pictures, I don't see nuts on one side, so maybe I might have tapped the holes and glued the screws in while it was clamped together.  That was probably 7 or 8 years ago, and I'm not a teen ager any longer.... LOL

Still working on the plane.  Things have been pretty busy but I do have some progress to report.

We got some fabric on the left side of the plane.  Waiting on some rudder cable farings to put in, then the other side goes on...

Today I gathered up my courage and cut up my new panel.  I cut out the openings for the Dynon, the GPS, radio and transponder.  Then temporarily mounted the trays.

Not the nosewheel - He was talking about a tailspring on a tri-gear - with a hook on it, it's good for stretching a barbed wire fence too!

I was considering Ercoupe before I bought the KF. One of my daughters thought it would be cool to get my ticket in an airplane as old as me. The advantage of the KF is the folding wings. Hanger space is at a premium around me, unless I want to drive 50 miles. I can keep the KF in the garage and drag it 1 mile to the airport when the mood strikes.

Some of the Ercoupes have rudder pedals...

Me thinks he meant that if ya have a training wheel, you can use the tail spring as a tail hook... pretty certain it was dripping with sarcasm too, kinda like 90% of what I post
