Kudos to Pilot USA customer service
I sent my 8 year old intercom back to Pilot USA after some email traffic last week because the intercom had quit working a while back. They called today to let me know they found the issue, fixed it, and it was on its way back. Best part NO CHARGE! Pretty awesome considering I bought it in 08. They make lots of 9 volt 2 place intercoms for particular radios for less than $200. They are simple to operate and no wiring. They last about 30 hrs on a 9 volt and can be left off and still get side tone if you are not using the intercom. www.pilot-usa.com

    HPL PROP QUESTION
A Warp drive HPL prop hub has two circles of 6 holes each in it - The larger circle is for a 912 - Is the small circle for mounting to a 582/532/503?
I think Warp Drive just advertises it as "Rotax Pattern"?
    EDMO
I got a reply from Daryl at Warp Drive - "Yes, the smaller 75mm pattern fits the Rotax 2-strokes, and the hub can be turned around so the 1" hole centers on the drive flange."

Glad that more people are writing - didn't think my Ercoupe avatar would make so much conversation - but I am glad it did. I plan to get more work done on Foxy and less writing this year - If I can ever find a stopping place!I am staying close to the house for the next 2 days because of spring storms - We dodged the bullet today when 4" grapefruit-sized hail hit a town where the J3 is hangered, and a tornado funnel was spotted south of us -
typical weather in the Tornado Alley area. May is usually the worst month.

as far as full lotus floats... I loved my 1450s and would put nothing less than them on an avid or kitfox.  They kick the crap out of 1220 or 1260 FL floats.  If I was not still bitter about the piss poor quality of the floats I got (had a major twist sewn into them they replaced one and it was just as bad) and I was ( and still wont) pay them to fix them right after I already paid for a new set of floats... from a safety stand point, and from a most usefull float stand point, the FL get the nod, but customer service pissed me off to the point that I will probably one day take them to a local upholstery shop and see if they can fix them instead of paying another 1000 bucks to ship them back and forth, plus pay FL to fix an issue they let get sent out the door...

I have a set of EDO 1320s on my avid and they are NOT overfloated... the tails sink if I walk back there in deep water.  I wouldnt think twice about putting 1250s on and AVID.  on the water, your going to get too much float out of the water much quicker than too little float..

If I have too many carb problems, which I don't really expect, I will be looking for the AV TBI.

The engine has a NSI gearbox on it. Kind of small starter built into the gearbox. I bought a Bing type 94 40 MM carb of ebay a couple of weeks ago, that's the same carb as is used by Jabiru's 200 4 cyl. and 3300 6 cylinder engines. I also have a Aerovee TBI, so that's an option as well. No big rush on any of it, I'm going to finish the Avid MK IV rebuild before I start on the Kitfox 4.... Jim Chuk

    take off from the cabin
Flew up to check on my cabin and landed in front of a buddies cabin about a mile down the road from mine.  The quartering tailwind kind of sucked, but I am glad I had those double puck brakes to keep it on the road!

Had the wife drive up so she could pick up the side by side and bring it home..... she made it 13 miles down the dirt road before she whacked the crap out of a frost heave, broke the trailer frame and slid the damn side by side off the front of the trailer... I circled around her and could tell something was not right but it took me two turns to figure out that the damn prowler was not on the trailer all the way.. I landed up hill on the road but by the time I taxied to her she had it back on the trailer.  I helped her strap it down and rigged the broken frame as best I could then flew high cover for her 60 miles back to the airport.  More pics to come later...

I am impressed.. the last thing I ordered from airdale was a tail ski.. I had called and talked to him about it, then about 4 or 5 months later I noticed a change on my CC.. then a month or two later I got the tail ski.  I had totally forgot I had even ordered it when a box showed up at the house

Glad he got the parts out in a pretty quick time frame for you but I don't like hearing about poor workmanship on welded parts.... but then welding QC is my profession so I am a bit passionate about it

On a cold engine mine usually takes a couple pumps until I feel a resistance on the push.  Thats when it is squirting the fuel into the intakes.  Then two or three  more pumps will do it.  On a warm engine I crank without priming and it usually starts right up.  If it cranks more than about 5 seconds without starting I give it one pump and it starts.

    Jim,
I have read, and may have the article, of how to make a fiberglass intake to replace the heavy original, also replacing the alternator and starter with lighter ones helps. I will look for it after storms get over with. Mine has a Holly 5200 2-brl. carb, probably off of a Chrysler product, and you can get a TBI from Aerovee for $395.
somehow, the original intake with water-heating, seems to make some sense, although heavy - some have said that they never need carb heat.
What kind of redrive does it have? Has the heavy flywheel been replaced with aluminum?
I have been looking for any kind of racing parts for the Soob, but haven't found a place that makes any.
Stratus used to exchange a reground cam and lifters for yours and $125 - guess they still do that, but price may have gone up. You can have the heads reworked to take the larger hydraulic valves, but you have to keep the same type cam and lifters as they will not interchange.
someone in Australia used to make heads with dual plugs, but I don't see this as necessary, as the auto plugs are good for about 100,000 miles, and they don't lead-up like engines running 100LL.

The reason I asked, was the Kitfox 4 project that I bought last summer has a Subaru engine on it. It looks like nothing was done to lighten up the engine, it has a massive intake manifold and alternator. Also the Harley Davidson style carb it flew with was missing. I might reuse this engine when I rebuild the plane, and am wondering how to lighten it up as much as possible. Jim Chuk

    urine test
    This is a GREAT idea!!!!

    URINE TEST
(I sure would like to know who wrote this one! They deserve a HUGE pat
    on the back!)

Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me.
I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit.
In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine
    test
with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the
distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test.
Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because
    I
have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I have no
problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other
hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their ASS, doing
drugs, while I work. . . . Can you imagine how much money the state
would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public
    assistance
    check?
I post this in the joke area because i know it will never change.
