A friend of mine has an A model Avid, and he put a 5 gallon tank behind the seat. He maybe has to undo the one flaperon rod when he folds the wing, my memory is thinking that for some reason. Here are a couple of pics. He used an electric pump to move the fuel up into the main fuel tank in front of the instrument panel. You could maybe use this as a large header tank in place of your small pipe one. Jim Chuk
PS looking at the pics, I see he does have to undo his flaperon rod to fold the wings which he does every time he flys as he keeps the plane at home.

    Mike,
Turbo horsepower would be great, but just too heavy for any of our birds except the Magnum - TBI and dual ignition are nice.  I have a single, Holly 5200 carb, but thinking about TBI someday.
I extended my leading edges about 4" to balance out my Soob engine and nosegear on my short Foxy.

I have a full page of Facet fuel pump models and specs - With a dual parallel pump setup like I was planning, I chose the ?---09 pumps because they allow free gravity flow and have a check valve to block reverse flow and match my 2-6 lb pressure range for my Holly 5200 carb.  There will be a shutoff valve in the single line to the engine.
However, I planned this in Alaska Bush Country - Here in tame Missouri, I probably only need one, and that would save weight.

I guess you could add a check valve to a line that is connected to a Facet pump that don't have one.  I don't have a pump on my Soob engine.   I don't know about Rotax.
You can print this chart from their site.

I thought I'd revive this thread.

I've a Facet Elec fuel pump on my firewall that feeds into the vacuum driven.  But I'm wondering if this "series" set up is optimum over adding extra lines and fittings to create a "parallel" setup.  Soliciting comments, photos of your setups and suggestions from the collective. eg. Should the elec feed through the vacuum pump (which it is presently) or around it directly to the carbs?

    Longer Legs
My model C extended speed wing only has one 18 gallon wing tank in the right wing and the stock half gallon header tank behind the seat on the starboard side.  With the engine and prop set up I have I figure on 5gph burn rate for cross country rides.  That gives me about 3 hours of real flight time and enough time to find a gas station.  I would like to have a bit longer legs for getting out of backcountry strips.

Has anyone added any kind of larger header tank behind the seat whilst not impacting the folding wing self storing aileron arrangement?  I would like some ideas or pictures of possible set-ups for extending fuel capacity that does not involve ripping apart wings.  If I could add 5 to 6 gallons of additional fuel I could manage 4 hours of real flight time.

    Need longer legs,

    Sorry Ed
My NSI is non turbo, dual electronic ignition, TBI. Sure seems like a nice setup.

It is the model IV-1200 spring, but was extended 2" on each side.

I wanted the extention in order to run the larger Matco pneumatic tailwheel.

Thanks Guys. I'll try to get some pictures on soon. Yes the NSI is what will be used to get this bird flying.

I also used 739 i didn't see much difference between it and any others that I have ever used. Also if you ever want to remove the tanks just take a piece of fishing string and pull it between the spar and tank, it will cut right through the silicone.

I wish these NSI engines would have been for sale when I bought my belt drive - I like the part where you shut the engine down and the prop keeps spinning -  Who said, "I just tell everyone watching that I have a turbine engine!"?
Wish I had thought of that !

Guess the only downside to them is that you cant hand-prop, or do an air-start without a working starter...
I don't know if you can air-start any 4-cycle with a redrive either - Never tried, and hope I don't have to try...

C5Engineer asked for some pics of the cooling shrouds and the muffler mount,  I included some of the cowl mods I made also.  I first glassed the cowl together then split it horizontally.  Then sectioned off the boot cowl and made the front top into halves.  All is attached with Cam-Lock fasteners.  Makes it easy to get into the engine house for a pre-flight inspection.

Tall, Mangy, looking good - What GW are the Grove legs?
They look same height as my KF5 1500s, but maybe slimmer - Mine are 22 " to axle, and then radius of wheel & tire should be about 10 more inches with your tires...But mine are just in front of the strut attach fitting - puts tail about 4 feet off of ground.

Welcome to the speaking side of the group! The more voices the better ) I also have a NSI sube that came on a Kitfox 4 project I picked up last summer. Just ran it a little bit. Didn't have fuel line hooked up to the carb so just was filling the float bowl. Was thinking if I could show a video of it running, it would sell better. Still have it, maybe I wanted to much. Anyway, welcome, and post away, and the more the merrier. Jim Chuk

Welcome to the forum! Super excited to see people come out of the shadows and post. I have an NSI with only break in time if you ever need parts. Have tried to sell it a few times with no luck. It was on my plane when I found it back in 06. Post up some pictures of your bird when you get a chance. Again welcome!

    Welcome Mike,
Always glad to have another in the one minority group with me -
The other minority group I belong to is the nose draggers!
There are some Soob flyers on here and a couple of builders - Seems like one of each kind of EA-81 is represented, and all have their differences.   Is your NSI a turbocharged?  My Kitfox 1 had one in it.
I think C5Engineer Joey still has an NSI that used to be in a plane.  He probably knows more about them?
My current scratch builder (modified Kitfox clone) has a Dave Johnson engine and redrive.
A few on here have the Stratus engine.
Post up some photos - All of us are happy to be Lookers, and always want to hear more about building and flying.
    Good Flying,

    Hi everyone
I have been lurking on this forum for awhile and decided to say hello and tell a little about myself. I have an KF IV with speedster wing which is almost ready for cover. It is powered by Subaru NSI. I have really learned a lot on this forum and want to tell everyone to keep up the good work. I also have an RV-4 and a 177RG Cardinal. I operate out of my own 2400' grass strip and base one aircraft at M44 in Northeast Mississippi. I am really glad to see more Subie owners and hope to lean more as I go. Anyway there's the brief bio.

    Mike

I think that is what I would do. Epoxy is my choice for building using the pug method (mold less ) it's easy to sand and fill. Just finished making a cowl for a friend's Pietenpol this winter and built one for my Q2 when installing the Jabiru. PM me if you would care for some suggestions and pictures and I will send my phone number so we can talk. What fun, wish I was there to help.

IF there's a groove in the split faces for an o-ring to seal them, you have the tubeless wheels.

  25. debest1960 added a post in a topic Tech Question Avid B Help Please

for "B" model S/N 232 weight and balance leveling instructions are as follows (from the manual 1986):

"Block under the main gear until the belly of the fuselage is level from the firewall back to the shock struts. On the tail wheel model, block under the tail wheel.

Level the airplane, fore and aft (see section 4-1)"

That's straight from the manual. however, the section 4-1 is for firewall installation and has no information about leveling. The manual was pretty crude back then.
