I don't have any issues with the top of my old cowling being a flat red, and I have not had any issues with my MK IV cowling being white.  I do think I did prefer the flat color a bit more, but neither was enough to be a real serious game changer for me as long as its not a highly polished or gloss surface it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

I have been using the yellow tygon for years in my gas powered models airplanes and as for replacement fuel lines on lawn mowers, yard equiptment tractor etc.  I have never had a leak or split with it.

Header tank vent line and Fuel level sight gauge tubing
I think most who have done their research have moved to Gates Barricade Low Permeation Fuel Line Hose for Carburetors. Every so often the question of "what's the best" header tank vent line hose and fuel level sight tubing to use. Obviously, new products come along, but here's what the manufacturer of my SLSA requires today. Hope it's helpful.
For header tank vent line: Tygon F-4040-A

For wing fuel tank sight level tubes: Tygon LP1500

My personal experience is that the Plexiglass or Lexan used in the airplane windsheilds is more glaring than the windshield glass in a vehicle, and maybe you get more glare - I also want the top of my IP glaresheild to be flat black because of that.   Bright colors wont blind you completely, but might be a distraction or a headache for a long flight.  Some pilots want the complete interior to be dark gray or black because of reflections in the Lexan.

    My $.02
What have been your experiences with vehicles you have driven? I imagine the same would hold true for the top of the airplane cowl. But then, I'm not yet a pilot and don't play one on T.V.

Joey,  Its good to think ahead for changes you want to make.  I have flown some planes with shiny colors on top of the cowl, and a few times I have wished that the top part that you see from the driver's seat was painted a flat black like my one plane.  Most of the time the sun reflecting on the top of the cowl didn't bother me.   I think your cowl looks good - its just the rest of the fuselage that needs some color (Well, that was my wife's comments!) ...The main thing is what you are happiest with.
No matter what color I paint my new cowl, the top part will be flat black.

That was my approach also. I looked for nearly a year before finding mine.
Unfortunately I've not yet had it in the air.

Same guy.  I think I met you at the romp a few years ago.  You had the Vking with the bruiser color scheme if I remember.  I still have my Voyager but I thinned my herd of other boats to pursue this interest.
Actually my end goal is to have this plane on floats and operate it out of Raquette in the summer which would be central Adirondacks.

    No photos today.
Finished wiring the charging circuit and the starter.  Almost done with wiring.  I'm waiting on some connector pins from stein air and I'll get the temp probes hooked up.  Then, tying up all the bundles.  I think that's it for the fwf.
Next will be the doors and windshield.
Shoot a little paint on the cowl.
Hang the wings on her and take a little trip...

Welcome GREGPRO50.  Handle sounds familiar.  Not a Hydrostream guy as well by chance?  If you every fly out towards the Southern Adirondacks make sure you stop in to see the folks at EAA602.  www.eaa602.org.  The area is very FOX friendly.

  16. Knuckledragger added a post in a topic VGs? Who has them and do you like them?

I flew my plane, Avid Mark IV, Extended Aerobatic (HH) Speedwing for a few hours without the VGs.  Then I put VGs on the outer 66% of each wing at 4.5" back from LE as measured along the chord, then stepped forward to 4" where the flapperons end to the tips.  I also put VGs 4" forward of the hinge opening on the underside of the horz stabilizer. All VGs are spaced at 60MM
Keeping in mind these are seat pants observations, Here is what stands out to me:
Before the VGs I had to modulate power all the way to the grass.  If I cut power and tried to hold it up in ground effect, it would just plop down.  On take offs, soft field (holding the nose wheel up) was impossible.  Take off speed was ~60-65MPH IAS (1/3 flaps)
After the VGs: Now I cut power several hundred feet above and ahead of the threshold (right after turning final) and have to WAIT for energy to bleed off as I ease the stick back in ground effect.  The landings are much greasier now.  (Perhaps I'm getting better at flying the plane too).  On take offs, I have the nose wheel up before the ASI starts to register movement.  The plane leaves the ground at ~50mph IAS (1/3 flaps)
Overall, Landings feel different.  I'm still relearning where to cut power so that I don't glide halfway down the field before running out of elevator.  The first time I came in with the VGs, I was surprised by the glide and about the time trees at the end of the runway were starting wave me back on the power it settled softly into the grass.  My preference for landing is to stay at 80-100% pattern altitude until I start turning short final.  With the VGs I've been adjusting base & final out further or slipping it down faster (more fun!)
Bottom line, I feel better about the plane landing and taking off.  The change in handling put a huge smile on my face too!

Finally!  A couple days of unhindered flying. I'm comfortable with moderate crosswinds now.  I flew to my heart's content today. Lots of take-off & landing practice with crosswinds later in the day, slow flight & stalls, light aerobatic maneuvers (my inexperienced attempt at), and just general flyin around. It was a great day!

yeah but without fishing I arm would get tired pretty damn quick... hell I would have to hold a tennis ball under my armpit till my arm went numb just so I would feel like I was cheating on myself.

Lets hope your just senile.. Cause I don't drink bud lite.. not even for the dear departed.  I will however water the grass with a fresh bottle of BL (that shit will probably kill the grass too) while I sit there and toast ya with a Captn N coke or an MGD..

Leni,  If you don't get a response from me, it is either because I have gotten too senile to remember what you wrote, or time to sit on my tombstone and have a Bud Lite and wish me a good flight...

Don't forget: you don't have to fish.  You can just run around in your seaplane and enjoy the water and the air and forget about the fish.

Damn Doug, you spent some time on that one hahahaha.  It's all good.  As long as I come out of it being able to have my daughter when  I am home everything else is trivial.  Retirement is a long long ways away and I can start over and still make the cut off date
