Ski for my Avid

Hello friends
here in Germany is approaching the winter and I want to equip my Avid on skis.
Has anyone of you an instruction manual or tip?
A simple way would be great. But the wheels must also work.
Does it make sense to equip on the spur with a small ski?

 

Another question.
I've built myself the gums - a good guide for that I have found.
But I can find no strong gums throughout Germany. After a week they leave after.
Has anyone of you an address where I can buy those bungee cords?

Just Guessing, but is a "spur" what we call a tailwheel? "Gums" is probably for rubber shock cords.

The yelow ski on top looks gerat but its a lot of work to build one.

I saw a set of skis on ebay not too long ago.

I don't know much about skis - We do not have much snow here.

You need to ask the guys in the North, like Jim Chuk, Akflyer, Suberavid, and others.

I cant write German, but I was there for two years in the Army.

I think Maddin is still looking for an answer about putting a "spur" (tail) ski on - is it worth doing?

I don't need skis down here, or even a tailwheel!

In the winter, I pack my runway with a drag I pull with the snowmobile. It ends up nice and smooth. If I run without a tail ski, the runway gets rutted up. The tail ski also helps to keep the tail of the plane up if you are in deep snow. You can make a tail ski where you keep the tail wheel useable by having a slot in the ski that the wheel protrudes through. I'm in favor of the tail ski. Jim Chuk

I've watched a number of videos of light planes on skis. I believe I would want one on the tail as well.

I will built skis like on the picture from av8r.....

And i think i will use a tailwheel ski too.

But i need more time! 24 houers a day is not enoth

The first snow comes perhaps in 8 weeks.......

Yes I would use a tail ski!  I did not use one the first couple of years and they make a HUGE difference if your in deep snow.

I will see if I can get some better pics.  If I were you, I would NOT weld that solid stop on the way it was before, the tubing will bend and break right there is you tag a snogo track or anything solid under the snow.  While at first I thought it was a pretty clever idea, I now am not to impressed with it.  Also needs a heavier spring and check cable is your playing in rough stuff, I have broke the ones that came with it and as you can see in the pic I uses a few loops of safety wire to fly back from my last trip to the lodge on the skis.  When that check cable breaks and the tail ski flips over you have some AWESOME braking power back there :lmao:

Wondering out loud: is having the tail ski flex up and down on the pivot behind the tire really necessary??

If it had enough angle of attack to not dig in, allow the tail spring to flex for the ski. Since it's so short why have it flex at all...

yes it needs to pivot and yes you need all the area you can get on it if your in deep powder snow.  Mine will still sink into the snow up to the fuse at the tail, but with the tail ski I can get it on top and out of the snow a lot quicker than without a tail ski.

I do live in snow county here in the Idaho panhandle, looks interesting to me but I have no experience in this area, just models
