    Running AVGAS
One of the guys in our EAA Chapter would like to do some cross country flying and is using a 582.  The area will not have much, if any, access to mogas.  AVGAS will be primary fuel source.
He has concerns over excessive carbon buildup and lead deposits etc.  Do any of you run AVGAS on a regular basis in your two strokes and what have you realized as far as performance and carbon issues?

FWIW - no shimmy issues with my single arm.  Using standard springs and arms with about 25% compression in the neutral state.

    Removing Old Injection Lines
I have an injection line seeping at one of the barb connections.  These are the OEM lines and keepers.  Any idea how best to remove these keepers without much fuss?  Don't want to over stress the barbs, thinking that maybe I could squeeze on the ears (90 degrees to the original crimp).  Any thoughts?

To make up the difference in diameter (7/8" to 1") I am considering using some VHB (all weather double sided tape from DM).  Here is a shot with some other options (basic 2 sided tape and also a thick foam single sided - though this would need to be closed cell, which this one wasn't).  All options seem to hold the fairing firm from folding, yet still allow removal.

tcj  how did you handle the cross tube on your aft fairings?   I a thinking about drilling a 1/2 hole the slicing right ling the leading  edge and gluing back together.

Just weighed the four 96" lengths (as a group).  14 lb total.  0.438 lb/ft (or 7 oz per foot).  Pretty much what tcj was seeing.

Did you install yours with the struts on or off the bird?  I would like to do this in-situ if I can.  Did you use adhesive?

They are for 1", however I will make up the additional diameter.  Not sure what with yet.  They do look like they may work fine as is though.  Will let you know how it goes.  My Model III has 7/8" struts.

Here it is in case someone didnt see it:
    Alert Service Bulletin:
    Carburetor Float Exchange
What's this all about, and how does it affect my engine?? This bulletin very likely does not affect you - it applies only to a very limited range of affected engines and replacement parts.
However, if you have recently taken delivery of a new ROTAX 912, 914, or 582 that was produced AFTER MAY 9th, 2016 - or - if you have recently replaced 912, 914, 582, 447, 503 or 618 carburetors or carburetor floats with replacement parts that were produced AFTER MAY 9th, 2016 - then you should read on!
A NEW Alert Service Bulletin has been issued which applies to a very limited range of 912, 914, and 2-stroke engines, as well as any engines which have been equipped with ROTAX part number 861185 floats during engine repair, maintenance or general overhaul as of May 09, 2016.
Due to manufacturing deviations, certain 861185 carburetor floats supplied as spare parts after May 9th, 2016, and/or installed on specific serial number engines and carbs (see the ASBs for specific serial number ranges), may have the outer surface "peel" or “flake” from engine vibration.
    Serial number ranges are detailed in ASB-912-069 / ASB-914-051 (certified engines) and ASB-912-069UL / ASB-914-051UL / ASB-2ST-003 (UL engines).
Affected floats must be replaced with current-issue 861185 floats, which are now marked with three dots for positive identification.

Will do Ed.  I will say, however the quality of these Kitfox struts are real nice.  They snap together at the tail.

    Float Recall
Just got a recall notice on my floats.  I am running a 582 and earlier in the month purchased two new sets of floats (as I was having a flooding problem on one carb.  Updated to new floats and needle&seats with no more problems).  Folks at LEAF indicated that the 912's and 582's now use the same floats.  Does that jive with what you know?  I was thinking these were different, but maybe they have standardized things.
Anyway, my bird is down until replacements arrive.   Hope this doesn't take too long.
Anyone else here affected or have further info?  I will try to get the part number that is being recalled (though not sure how you can identify by just looking at the float itself).

Thanks Ed.  I got a good reply actually from the Kitfox site so I think I am good to go.

Adding Strut Fairings - Taper required at root
Getting ready to install the snap on fairings on my Model III/IV. Part of the install has a portion of the inboard aft strut trimmed back to allow clearance for folding (such that it will not hit the fuselage fabric).

I would like to install these as it sits on the bird (without folding the wings for trial an error, plus folding is not an easy evolution for this bird (long story)).

Anyone have a dimension on how far up the strut to make the taper cut?  Also, the kit came with a a root cuff wrap as an option (aluminum) - where the two fairings merge at the V next to the fuselage.  Anyone using this and have an installed picture they are willing to post?

One of our local EAA Chapter members is interested in this bird.  By chance have any of you seen a mod like this (16" lengthening) and have a feel for what you can see in the images?  We are in NY and the bird is in Georgia, so a reasonable travel expense required to take a look.  By chance have any of you actually seen the plane?
These Heavy Haulers, are they kinda like a Kitfox IV or a bit larger like a Kitfox V?  Any adverse flying characteristics to be aware of?  The Jabiru install, was this ever an option for the Avid C or is it a custom install?

Sound like the upper round to lower round in the front?  Mine are riveted (female portions) directly through the fiberglass.  No problems to report.

    582 Idle Jet
Have must of you guys reduced the size of your idle jets on the 582?
Mine was super rich (winter and summer) even at 2 turns out on the air screw with the 55.  I changed to 50's yesterday and am at 1.5 turns and things seem pretty good (though still a tad rich below 2500, though way smoother).

IVO Prop Feedback (GSC to IVO)
I will soon be ordering an IVO to replace my 68" 3 blade GSC.  582, C box, 2.62 Kitfox III.
Ivo is suggesting a 68" 3 blade ultralight.  I have heard (somewhere) that maybe a 70" 3 blade Ivo UL is better in this application.
Anyone have experience in this arena?
With regard to CG, anyone know what this GSC weighs in at?  I see the IVO at ~ 8 lbs.  Guessing the GSC might be twice that?

I added 1 degree pitch today and that made a world of difference.  Got my 5 MPH back and dropped the  EGT's about 75 degrees.  Thanks for the suggestion.  4 good hours this weekend.
