  1. Aside from all the rumors what is the best oil to use in a rotax 582 greybeard from 1992 regardless of the expense.

    Thanks

I talked to Bill Holmes at the Rotax booth while at Oshkosh this year. He told me the Pennzoil Marine XLF is the exact formula as the Pennzoil we were using before they stooped making it. It can be bought at any automotive or large outlets. Can be mixed with the old Pennzoil as it is the same.

  2. This whole sit has changed. PC and laptop both fighting me. This really sucks.

Have enjoyed talking with everyone on here - but wont fight battles to get 2c in.

Going to hibernate all winter and hope for better site in spring - or whenever.

Ed I am running Vista on laptop and XP Pro on my desk top. No problems with either. Check your computers for virus. Russ.

  3. I'll be covering soon using Stewarts also so let us know what you figure out.

I used the Stewart System on N844RS, very user friendly. I also stapled my ribs with divergent SS staples. Goto to their site and download the CD,

    it's a great help. Russ.

  4. Ok, I let this stew for a bit but I just gotta say... Russ is so damn cheap he refused to pay for an extra 2' of V- nose up front. He talked the trailer mfg into that "mini" nose so the plane would fit with the spinner on and his 2-blade prop set vertically. I told him it was a BIG mistake!!

What's he gonna do when he wants to swap out to a 3-blade? :hammerhead:

Truth be known the dealer made a mistake and built it with full v-nose. Only gave me 20' long I.D. He rebuilt to 23' I.D square nose with a corner closet space. The other truth is I get away from the Fat Bastard for 6 months.frech11.gif

Thanks for the corner closet idea Doug. See you in Apriltumbleweed.gif

  5. Just picked up my new trailer. 8 1/2' W X 24' L X 7' H. Inside 7' H X 8'3" W. Front door on right side. Plan on leaving plane and trl. in my driveway for winter, and at my airport in summer. Russ.

    Hi Guys And Girl.

The trailer is built by Rock City Trailers, located in my town of Herkimer, NY. Unit has Luan interior, L.E.D. lights, 2 vents on roof, side door passenger side, duel axel with elec. brakes, and interior lights. Sides and roof are 1" sq. steel tubing, 16" on center. Roof 12" on center. Alum.

ext. sides and roof. Floor 3/4" ply. Main frame 2" X 4" steel tubing. I wanted it light and it weighs 1000# empty. I don't plan on hauling cars or

snowmobiles, as I winter in Fl. Will try to post interior pics, but time is short as I leave for Fl. Wed. am. Price with tax $3200.00 Hope this helps.

    Russ.

  7. Hi Russ,

I have the Westach 2AT8A-2 688 tach. It is hooked to a ducatti dual ignition on a rotax 582. There is a single grey wire from engine through firewall into cock pit. There is a #2 pin and a #5 pin. I do not see a yellow wire. Only the black ground wire from tach to frame ground and the grey wire from magneto housing are going to the tach. I am puzzled about how to make it work correctly.

    THanks

    Jeff

Jeff the yellow wire om my tach is at the #3 hole. I am attaching a instruction from westach. Russ.

  8. If you are using the Westac #2AT8A-2-6, there is a yellow wire on the back that needs to be cut if reading about 3 time actual rpm.

    Russ.

  9. Okay guys, no offence intended, but, WTF is a chat room ID number??

No offence intended Larry, but should you or Doug be allowed in the chat room???stirthepot.gif

  10. Hey guys,

Wellas you know the site was down yesterday do to a move to the new server. The site went from pennys a day to host to dollars a day. What do you guys think about having the option to become a "contributing member" Not much, 10 or 15 bucks a year, just to help me offset the new costs of the site. I am tossing around the idea of having some shirts and hats made up too, any one interested??

I wont deal with putting up those damn pop up ads that piss me off or accepting manufactures ads.

This site is for the builders and flyers and for open and honest discussions and product evaluations, not some toned down politically correct product review. If a product sucks, we can say it sucks and you will never be moderated here for an open and honest opinion.

Let me know what ya think or if I need to go out and find a second job smilielol.gif

    Name your price, I'm in.

  11. Anybody going to Airventure this year? My wife and I will go out Saturday and stay until the next Sunday. We will be camping on the private land across from the Ultralight runway. The flaperon party is at the seaplane base, Thrusday at 12 o'clock.

I will be there 7/21--7/29/12. Camping at the UL as usual. Looking forward to seeing you all again. Russ. N844RS

  12. Actually, it was pretty fun reliving the moment too. Here's a little more of the story. smile.gif

That town was a D-U-M-P and the people true idiots. It was a very long and painful two weeks that just couldn't end fast enough. When the time came, I ended up sneaking out of town under cover of darkness so I could make one last stop on my way out. Figured that jackass of a boyfriend owed me more than his girlfriend after taking a shot at me, and I knew his hopped up Camaro was parked down at the garage. So I hung a couple pair of his GF's panties on the rear view mirror along with a thank you note for his gracious hospitality. But I wasn't quite finished yet. Oh no, no, no...

Now if you looked close in the pics and know your old Chevy history, maybe you noticed the original, stock Chevy 265 V8 still in the engine bay. Your eagle eyes would also be right in noticing that Chevy did not offer an oem tri-power option for what essentially was a truck engine in the day. Let's just say, that manifold was a very nice after-market add-on I acquired thru barter. I only wish I could have seen that fooker's face when he went to start his car the next day, found my parting gifts and opened the hood only to realize the intake manifold and carbs were missing off his pride and joy.

Hey Doug, I hope I never party.gif piss You off. Russ. N844RS

  13. Russ you want them on the ends of the legs. When the bungees flex and then snap back those rubber bands act as a buffer between the gear legs and the bottom of your fuse. On a rough field those gear legs will be bouncing around pretty good.

I removed my safety cables. I've never heard of somebody having a bungee break and collapsing the gear but I have seen about 4 different airplanes with a wrecked fuse due to the bungees hitting the safety cables on a hard landing. When the gear hits those cables everything comes tight all at once and stuff bends.

My bungees are gone forever here in the next few days as I'm finishing up the install of my wide bush gear buttrock.gif

Thanks Joey, I probably should have gone the same route with the bush gear.

  14. HI all,

Just installing the bungees on the MK IV with the new WIB gear from Airdale. I have the bungees wrapped 8 turns and understand that the safety cable goes on the tabs over the bungees. What I can't see from the drawing, R-3 in my manual is where the large rubber bands are placed.

Any advice from the PROS. Thanks Russ. N844RS.

  15. birthdayfriends.gif damn boy, how many of those are you gonna have this year??? I would have sworn you had one just a few months ago nutkick.gif
