Hey Ed, I was just giving you heck - and hit the wrong smiley face which made it look wrong.  Fixed it now (and I guess that boo boo made my point!)

If social media posts causes a rift, there is probably some other underlying cause.  I don't ever get offended by facebook or other posts (Even Ed's don't bother me     ).  You can't detect tone, or use other visual clues to see what the person really meant, and in general I don't give anybody the power to make me mad - that's just letting them control me and that ain't going to happen.

When I trailered mine from CA to IL, I went to home depot and got the cheapest carpet runners they had, and some 1x2's  I use them to make slings to hold the wing I had to take off and the horizontal stab on then inside walls of the trailer.  Supported them well, and provided some protection and standoff from the wall.

Mogas or 100LL?  100LL shouldn't, but Mogas you never know what is in that Sh*t.  It may not have alcohol, but that doesn't mean there isn't something else worse in it.

Snakes, no problem, don't even need a big gun to solve that problem, heck, a good pellet gun cures the immediate problem.  Understand there is no such thing as a good snake.  I dead snake is better than a live snake, but it still isn't good!

Tornadoes? Heard about them, seen the aftermath of one or two, even had the house hit by one in St. Louis when I was in Kindergarten.  Over and done, if you didn't get major damage, it isn't a big problem.

Bears - are there guns big enough?  Especially when you're shaking as bad as I'd be?  Earthquakes - was in Oakland shortly after the last big one in SF.  Got to stare at the collapsed bay bridge outside the office window for a week.  Traffic was snarled for over a year from that, big mess even if you didn't get any damage to your house.  I'll take tornadoes, thanks.  At least the hospital, fire department, and other services are generally still working, and the roads are fine!

That was me.  Yep, the intensifiers helped a little, but still could only hold about 3000 rpm.  Changed the pedals & cylinders so I could get the Matco required 2.5x geometry, and now I can hold a full runup.  No changes in calipers, and only changed the cylinders because I needed to get the short ones to get the geometry correct.  The MC-5's were just too long.

  9. marksires added a post in a topic Wide Trailer for Avid, Kitfox Transport and Storage

Wish that was around when I bought my trailer in 2006 - It's only 96" outside, plus 6" lost to the door.  Have to take a wing off to get it in, which isn't too bad since it has no fuel tank in one, but I didn't measure the horizontal stabilizer - same width as the folded wings.  It is a real b*tch to get off and on.  Fortunately I only needed to trailer it from CA to IL the one time.  Now I get to trailer it from IL to FL, but it needs recovered anyway, so it will be more disassembled for this move.

I think this form of G Meter should be installed in every airplane - I don't think I'd miss this one when I'm 'scanning' the instruments!

If it's an electric pressure washer I wouldn't bother.  All of them I've tried in the past seem to have a bad prostrate problem

Great trip, thanks for the pictures.  At Danville, you should have borrowed the crew car, driven a couple of mile over the Indiana line to the Beef House restaurant.  But, then you might not have been able to take off again!

The tiny elevator would be just to help the elevators on the canard, but it is too low, and looks to me like it will be under water (as will the tips of those small propellers on the canard).  I think he'd be better off with that elevator on the back up in the airstream from the prop where it might have a chance to do some good.

It occurred to me that the way that pushes down the nose when power is applied, it might become a submarine if he tries to go around.......

Ed beat me too it.  CA is nice for flying, since it never rains.  At least until the smoke is too thick from the fires     From the size of those dry cracks in the ground, that must be some hardy grass to turn green!

Looks like fun, but my gut tells me the center of thrust is too high and too far back.  Pushing the nose down like that is going to be a bitch to get off the water.

Harbor freight has some mats that work ok.  I got a couple of almost 1" thick ones somewhere, but I can't find them anymore.  They stay in front of the metal lathe and the mill, makes using those for a long time much more pleasant.  the HF ones are in front of the woodworking power tools since I don't tend to stay there as long.

  18. marksires added a post in a topic Rotax 582 getting air in the cooling system

I had a Honda Accord (total piece of junk, never again!) that regularly blew a head gasket with internal leakage only.  It was fairly obvious, the engine would run, but it suddenly turned into a steam engine with a nice cloud following me wherever I went......

  19. marksires added a post in a topic AIRLINE CRASHES

I think you are talking about the United DC-10 that went down in Sioux City Iowa after the tail engine blew and severed lines on all 3 hydraulic systems.  That aircraft had a flight engineer, but the person manning the throttles was a 4th crew member drafted from the passengers.  He just happened to be the chief DC-10 instructor for United.  It was amazing they got that airplane even close to the airport.  That they almost made a successful landing was a more impressive feat than the miracle on the Hudson.  Didn't get all the press and honors that the Hudson crew did because 111 people died, but 195 lived, against odds worse than the PowerBall ticket.

Thankfully they didn't have a NASCAR driver in the cockpit - the airplane could only turn RIGHT.  They'd have never made it.....

On every commercial flight I've been on in the US, if one of the pilots in the cockpit needs to leave, one of the flight attendants enters the cockpit until he/she returns.  Either the policies are different in Europe, or the weren't followed on this flight.

I stopped at a McDonalds in Cheyenne on my way from Illinois to California one March.  I had to get out of the passenger side.  The wind was blowing directly onto the driver side, and I couldn't open the door.

I have a Dynon D1 'pocket panel'.  I have an IFR equipped Cherokee, and my Avid.  The Cherokee is all vacuum - even the turn and bank is vacuum, so I needed some alternate backup, but in panel options were $$$$$.  I'm 'legal' without one, but seems stupid to me given the likelyhood of a vacuum pump failure.  With the pocket panel, I can move it between the two planes as needed.  I can't imagine ever getting into IFR with my Avid in Florida, but stranger things have happened to me over the years!

Do you know the serial number?  Mine is #841, and was sold as a 'C', the build manual says 'D', and it has all the Mk IV upgrades. It originally had the square rudder, but after a ground loop, the original builders replaced the busted square rudder with the round one.
