Something like Bandit did in this thread would work without changing the cylinders, scroll down until you see the picture in Bandit's post.

If I trusted my welding skills, I could have made a linkage to attached to the existing MC5 cylinders.  I think the pedals Ed mentioned have a linkage that does just that, so I'd probably spend the money on the pedals rather than on new cylinders (and have to bleed those blankety blankety blankety things again!)

I have a welder, but I didn't trust my weak welding skills for anything very stressed.  I designed the new pedals so all the force not directed through any welds.  The left pedal is more dependent on the welds, since I had to put the attach point in the middle of the pedal, the weld has to keep that attach point from folding over.
I cut them out of flat 4130 plate, then bent them into shape and welded the two straps at the front so my foot didn't get stuck.  It took me three designs before I had one that was simple, light, and not dependent on a weld carrying the load in tension.

Here is the before and after pictures of my pedals with some crudely drawn notes, it might make it more clear.

The special airworthiness certificate is a standard document, the operating limitations are a separate document, but the special airworthiness certificate references the operating limitations.  As Joey said, some of them are very long, and there isn't room on the special airworthiness certificate for all the verbage.

It is correct - the only time and A&P has to be involved is the annual condition inspection if you don't hold the repairman certificate.  Note that it does not have to be an IA, only an A&P is required to perform the condition inspection of an amateur built experimental aircraft.
Also note that you must pay attention to your operating limitations issued with the airworthiness certificate.  Overhauling the engine isn't a big deal, but if you change the engine to a different kind, or change the propeller, or modify the control surfaces (basically anything that is likely to change the flight characteristics), your operating limits probably require you to to go back to phase 2 testing for 5 hours.  You don't have to notify the FSDO, but you need to log the switch to phase 2 testing, log the completion of the 5 hours and return to normal operations.
That's one of the reason you have the big EXPERIMENTAL placard where passengers can see it.

I tried the 'intensifier kit' you are talking about Ed.  It probably made some difference, but it wasn't significant.  Not worth the time or $$.  Fix the pedals so the geometry is right, or at least close.

Your pedal geometry is probably wrong.  If the cylinder attaches to the top of the pedal, you actually lose mechanical advantage as you apply the brakes.  You start out with about a 1 to 1 mechanical, and it drops to .7 to 1 as you push on them.  Matco recommends a 2.5 to 1 mechanical advantage.  I redesigned my pedals to get this, and I went from not being able to hold the plane at 3000rpm (a little tough to do a runup), to no problems at 5500rpm.  Attached is a picture of what they look like after redesign.  I had to switch from the Matco cylinders with the internal reservoirs (5C?) to the shortest ones they make (4G or 4H) with an external reservoir to make them work.

Absolutely keep yourself in the clear.  I'm not even that nosy about what happened - it was training, and in training, sh*t happens, that's why you train.  Much worse if it happens in theater with the pointy end folks suddenly in a trouble because their aircraft are out of fuel!

Apparently they 'forgot' to turn on the power management system that should prevent this.  They also didn't have a clue how to put out the fire once it started.  Would make me really happy to be the first 'test pilot' on the new Orion launch system!
Maybe this is the same group that mixed up English and Metric on that Mars Lander a few years ago and cratered it in (or as I like to call it, Landing with Authority).

I knew that information, I threw the Wiki link in so you could read about it.  But,  I only knew that because I used to eat at a 94th Aero Squadron restaurant a lot.  They are all gone now, but they were great restaurants at reasonably large airports and always had a view of an active runway.  The decor was all WWI operations shack themed.   When we lived in St. Petersburg FL, there was one at KPIE, loved that place.  There was one at KSTL also, but it closed before I could try it.
