    I would suggest getting a go/no-go gauge to check your swages with, especially using a non aircraft designed squeezer.

    My AI would not pass that example visually. I was told you should be able to see the three individual squeezes. It looks like the swage is either too wide or nicopress sleeves are too short.

    Considering the life and death nature of rudder cables on these planes, I don't think this would be an area where going cheap is the best policy.

    For the record, I've run my 1050 way over 1200 and it performs fine and is not stressing any part of the airframe. Remember the Kitfox IV wing is almost identical to the V, VI, VII and SS wing. The later planes can be "grossed" up to 1550.


    If you are considering a 1050 and the weight limitations are bothering you, not to worry. I would be glad to talk off line with you on this subject.

    Why not hook up the enricheners and use them as the motor was designed?

    My motor is a 912, so a total different situation. But, there are people using primers instead of the enricheners on these too. I could never figure out why. I have never had my engine fail to start in the cold weather while ski flying. Even after the plane has sat for several hours without preheat...

    Both are good units. If you can find a good 296 I'd recommend that.

    I couldn't when I was looking, so I sprung for a 500 Aera ($800). I've been extremely pleased with it's function and operation.

    You have the Subaru, but I thought I'd mention this anyway.

    A friend running a controllable ivo with a 912 had some issues with high pitch full throttle for high cruise speeds. This caused too much cylinder pressure and caused leaking at the bases and heads. Leaking stopped when he gave himself a minimum rpm at full throttle of 5200. You may want to watch your head gaskets if you do this often.

    I would never argue the "old" 912 mount is not a total pain in the a$$.



    I haven't seen the mods made to the new mount in detail, but I have seen the one that Dave was prototyping. Much improved...

    I understand the difficulties the mount has had.

    Recently a local builder and excellent fabricator modified his mount and Brett was part of this. I think he has since modified the jig to incorporate these changes and updates.

    I think you may have a pandoras box type nightmare trying to reregister a deregistered, certificated airplane now as an experimental. I'll be interested to see how this plays out.

    I agree manu. That's the one thing that scares me in my Kitfox. If I loose the "Jesus" bolt on the elevator horn, I'm going to die. Period. With a trim tab you at least have a chance.

    Airframes designed around the vw will work with them. (Hummel, Sonex, etc). Avids and Kitfoxes were not. Pretty simple.

    As to reliability, I won't fly behind one. I know of too many of them that don't work to trust any of them.
