  1. Yes they are great planes.  I m probably going to keep my Avid, made a lot of personal additions.  I bought the KF as an investment and will most likely have it for sale before long.  If someone is looking for a nice one and wants to do their own flight testing I might let it go before I fly the hours off. Otherwise I should have it on the market this fall.

  2. I tried a 1” tube without changing the elbows inlet and outlet but could not tell any difference.  I removed it after a trial period.  Let us know how it goes for you. Even with my new EFI there was a substantial imbalance but at least with tuning the ability to balance the cylinders at cruise is nice.

  3. The fuselage is different for the tri-gear and the tail dragger.  The rear section on the tri was built out of aluminum tube and is not suitable for conversion to a tail dragger.  The TD had a complete fuselage made with 4130 cm tubing.

  4. Posting some pictures will really help.  I think you need to get one of those 50 owners to come take a look.  Unfortunately W/B can be correct but if the gear is not right you will have the ground handling issues you describe.  Best to get it sorted before it causes an problem.

  5. I was not running my Zipper @ 6300 but set to 5800 max.  The bottom line is Cris the ULS Produces more HP AT THe same rpm than 105 Zipper.  I should say from my observation because I have done no scientific measurement of either engine.

  6. Interesting that you mention the 105 HP at 6300 rpm.  What happened to the 5800 rpm red line that Rotax calls for?  Wonder how much HP the 80 HP UL makes at 6300 rpm?   I'm thinking about swapping out the 80 HP I have in the Kitfox for the 100 HP ULS I now have sitting on the bench...  JImChuk

You will not regret putting that ULS on it.  Really makes the plane perform, back to work and get er done.  You’ll like it.

  7. There is also the Bully Hawk kit from Ronnie Smith in Mississippi.  I suspect that the pistons and cylinders are made by the same company for all of them.  I do know that both Hal at Zipper and Ronnie at Bully are good to work with and will install them if you want but the install is straight forward.  For a few extra bucks you can get the rings fitted and the pistons fitted into the cylinders which is what I did and recommend. I’ve installed both of the kits mentioned above, the Zipper on my own and the Bully on a friends and would say the install is identical.  I think both are recommending now that your engine is 2006 or newer but you can ask them about that.

Hal rates his at 105 HP but that is at 6300 rpm.  I know when I swapped to a 100 hp ULS that I needed to increase the pitch on my prop.  I can say it (the Zipper) was a big improvement over the 80 hp.

  8. I did a little research on these and apparently they weigh over the limit out of the box.  Are they more buoyant I don’t believe so and there have been issues reported with them.  No personal experience with them although. I just installed EFI on my 912 to get away from all of the Bing issues, of course these have their own issued but I’m liking controlling the AFR WITH THE touch of the mixture knob.

  9. Those sure look interesting to me.  I spent sometime looking into 2012 Apex harness.

I just completed putting EFI on my 912 ULS.  EVEN With a “plug and play” setup it is still a big job.

If I was still considering the Apex I would go with this personally.

  10. I believe he has the exhaust on it now, if I get out to his hangar (another airport) I’ll snap a picture.  This is obviously not a KF OR Avid.  I think I have a picture of the Zenith Cruzer mount I will add to this post.  Oops a Long Ear Bat resting for the winter here in a Wyoming cave.

The muffler is just in view in the Cruzer mount.

  11. I like them because they are less complicated and if properly designed easier to get the hoses threaded around.  The ring mount would be my second choice if you find a used one but then you still have to build a mount for that.  Once again this is just what I Would do, not necessarily the best way for everyone, just my own personal bias. I have a friend that built one, I’ll see if I have a picture.

  12. Are you getting the oil tank, voltage regulator, exhaust system , radiator, OIL COOLER, air filters and etc with the engine?  Dual throttle and choke cables work best IMHO AVAILABLE from McFarland or ACS.

You might be able to get a mount from Kitfox. Or have someone local weld one up for you.  The Kitfox and Avid mounts are not that pleasant to use, if I needed a mount I would have somebody build a bed style mount like Zenith uses.

  13. You sure do beautiful work.  I hope to get down there this spring and see it in person.

Im in the process of installing EFI on my 912ULS.  Should be ready to fire it up this weekend.
