    Johnson Creek
A few planes out of Casper are planning to head up to 3U2 on Tuesday June 12-16 for some camping and strip hopping. Anyone else headed up there at that time. Not sure if I will take the Avid this time looking like we will be in the Husky.

Cold oil probably won't be an issue, mine runs 230-260F with the same setup. Planning on an oil cooler when I decide where to put it.

When you say an unknown amount of heat was used, do you know what the heat source was?  If you do repair it, will you trust it or will you be flying around waiting for the wings to fold.  I guess if it were me I would just rebuild the wings so I wasn't worrying about it.  The problem with the sleeve is that it adds a stress riser at the end of the sleeve but what I don't know is, would that be a problem or not.

Well Ed, I guess when you are thinking nose dragger its hard to think about anything else  I do know that sometimes the tailwheels have nose wheel envy and try to get in front.   .

    Rans Coyote II
I have been helping a friend finish up his S-6 project and must say that when I ran the W/B through my spreadsheet it was very impressive.  No matter how you load that plane the W/B stays pretty much in the center of the range.  It will be interesting to see how it flies.

The are plenty of planes using the castoring nose gear so I bet it will be well suited for you.  RV and TriQ to name just a couple.

  12. wypaul added a post in a topic NOSE GEAR SPRING QUESTION???

Rans gear has a spring that also disengages the steering while in the air so that it doesn't act like a nose rudder.

Ed are you talking about a trailing link nose gear? There is a video on YouTube under "Avid trailing link nose gear" that will allow others to see what it is.

I tried to post a link but this site doesn't like IE and I don' t know how to do it from my IPad either.

    AK Bush Pilot
A friend picked up a pilot in Billings a few days ago that had came down to look at a Super Cub with 35" bush tires.  They landed on every hilltop and lake bank between Billings and Buffalo, WY. My friend , a CFI, said it was quite an education for him and that he had no idea what the Super Cub could do before the ride down to Buffalo with the AK pilot.  When asked if he had totaled one he said "only three, so far".  Must be something in the water up there that makes a different level of pilot!

Herman those are the oil lines going to the oil tank which is under the baggage compartment for the 912.  Did you sell your plane yet, sure looks nice.  How did the free wheeling tailwheel work for you?

What, everyone missed my joke? I re- tired as is 21" tires on the Avid.

Leni I have had the spring gear on there for over 100 hrs. and really like them, waiting on the Matco TW to finish off the gear.

I should retire but I just like the trucking business and the oil patch to much. Started saying I was semi- retired this year but that was a mistake, just ended up working more. Guess it can't be work if II enjoy it.

Mine did that a couple of times and then quit and has been fine since.  I also wondered about repair and would be glad to hear if it is practical.

I am thinking about the Matco 8" and wondering how it handles the pavement, I fly off of it most of the time.

Doug, Sorry I am so long getting back on this.  I have mine set about the same as Jerry with the exception of the oil temp alarm which I set to 270 F which is 15 F below Rotax max.

Looks like you have the good Maule TW with the larger, inflatable tire.  Wish I had that instead of the little hard wheel.
