    Bush Gear Update
    I have about 240 hrs. on the HighWing bush gear now.  After re-enforcing the fuselage everything is working well.  I have bounced it in several times without any problems and no sign of being able to bottom out the springs.   Very happy with the setup.

    The manual calls for gluing (I used Hysol) and then wrapping the tank and leading edge with fiberglass that was supplied with the kit (chopped strand mat). I had the original tanks so just used polyester resin, if you have the newer vinyl ester resin tanks I would use vinyl ester resin for the wrap. Be sure to leak test the tank (balloon and mouth pressure to inflate the balloon and tank) and rinse it with gas before installing.

    The Bing carbs are very fussy about the air entry to the carbs and it appears that yours will have problems.  I had to go with filters mounted directly to the back of the Bings to get even burn between the front and rear cylinders on my 912, I had nice smooth ells going into the carb with vanes to try to get a smooth air flow into the carbs but just could not get an even burn.  When you get it running check the plugs for even burn between the cylinders.  It does not appear that you have room to get the filters on the rear of your carbs but  my guess is that you will need to do something different than what you now have.

    I found that I was unable to get the tailwheel to release during normal operations from the cockpit due to the Avid's limited rudder swing.  This 25 degree plate (cam) solved the issue.  Try it the way it comes and get used to the handling and then decide if you need to make the change.

    The main gear is different for the tricycle setup so the entire landing gear must be replaced to go to a nose gear. Sounds like it may be an alignment problem and also the bungees maybe need tightened or replaced. I am sure there several people on this list that can help solve the problem if you are not ready to throw in the towel. I sold the nose gear that I had a couple of years ago.

    The easiest way to fill pinholes is to squeegee the fiberglass with neat epoxy before you do any priming or painting. Any kind of filler will bridge the hole and then it reappears when you sand it.

    I think you will like the Ivo, it takes two minutes to adjust and one and a half minutes of that is taking off and replacing the spinner if you use one.

    I have a vent/ fuel gauge line, that exits as per the plans on my Avid that works well now.  It took some fiddling to get it right and as a fuel gauge it only works at one RPM which I used my normal cruise RPM.  It is a 1/8" steel tube bent at 90 degrees like the fuel cap vent, about 4" above the wing pinched to a pinhole opening but is facing at about 45 degrees off the nose.  The clear vent line holds it in place so it is easy to adjust.

    I have been chasing a rich running engine and found that the primer pump was leaking a small amount of fuel into the carb causing rich mixture.  At this point I have installed a new pump that I had on the shelf but may go with the Bing choke/starting carb/enricher.  Anyone else have this happen on their plane or snow machine?

    Here is a link to build your own shock cords for the landing gear.  Be sure to buy the good aviation bungee to build them.  Also do a search on this forum there is a lot of info that has been posted here.

    You should not need any grease on the gears of the starter. IMO

    I run mogas in my 3300.  I have a couple of places that sell 91 octane without the alcohol.  It works just fine and I cannot tell the difference between that and 100 LL.
