I don't remember the price but somewhere in my old mind the $800-900 area for the Avid model sticks. Chris sold that aircraft a while back and I am in the process of trying to contact the buyer. Will update. The wheel, tire and tube did not come with it. Did you get yours yet?

If I remember they had 3 different models for different weights and use duty. The picture with the Avid since it has the kayak might be Chris Bolkin's. What does your design use for suspension since it has no springs? Does the one you got have solid sides or have the lightening areas removed?

Here's the website, however, sadly they've closed their business. I used to have the pics from the website but no longer. There are photos shown in the challenger video still there on the site. http://customflightsystems.com/

  7. avidchh added a post in a topic Avid towbar

    Hey Bryce,
Used it a lot before I converted to trigear and then changed the bend angle to accommodate and then up until the incident. Just about ready to fly again! Finished the rebuild and had it inspected last week. Need to do engine run ups then taxi testing then... go for it. The single square tube is clamped to the fork. It probably didn't need to be as heavy duty but I get carried away with 'it won't break now.' Did you ever put that wide gear on?

    Ed,
I have 8" mains. The front is a 6" and is about 4" off the ground when hooked up. I've had it up to about 50mph without issue. Towbars are really for short hops, trailers for long distances. It's really not that legal without lights and the tires are not Utah DOT approved so I stay off state roads. I could add the lights and licensing but the local police and sheriffs have never bothered me, but then I only have about a ten minute drive from my shop or my home to the airport all on back city and county roads. Actually it's only ten minutes to most anywhere here.

    Avid towbar
Some pics of a towbar I fabricated and use with my Avid Trigear. Can easily be adapted for a tailwheel by changing the bend angle of the towbar.

Looking for an Avid C side mount radiator or Kitfox under belly radiator to retrofit for my Avid C HH. Or other ideas for retrofit radiator cooling for the same .

I found some that are the same. They are a dust boot that go on the top of the cylinder. Matco says they are not necessary but since the top of the MC-1 is recessed I would prefer to have them to keep any excess accumulation of crap from building up in there. It also helps keep any fluid spillage/leakage from getting out on to the cylinder.

Has anyone found a source for a replacement rubber boot for the MC-1 cylinder? Matco no longer has them.

  20. avidchh added a post in a topic Anyone tried one of these lights??

    Brendan,
The post was not to diss your product but offer some alternative ideas for those who are capable of reusing available products for experimenting at low costs. I apologize if you took it that way. After all, we are a bunch of experimenters and designers that come up with some cool ideas and alternatives to the high price of aviation products but work great for our needs and uses. Remember when landing lights were a row of cars with their headlight pointing down the field and recognition was a flashlight pointed in your direction? We've come a long way. I'm sure your product and customer service are great and since it sells others agree.
    However, some points to consider...
    - No available 22 LED panel/lens combo is going to provide enough light output, measured in lumens, to provide adequate lighting to use as general use landing lights so they could be considered mostly useful for visual recognition or conditional use taxi lights. Very high power LEDs have not yet been available in this configuration and would be costly without a larger market for someone to tool up for. The VisionX seem to be the best choice but are not cheap.
    - The housing for the panel I referenced is more than adequate to keep the elements out and mounting capability is available in half a dozen different styles, plastic and metal. They are designed for high speed applications and appear to be durable. Hopefully someone that can build an aircraft would mount their chosen version in a way that it wouldn't just fly off the aircraft. If you wish to send me a sample LED panel I will compare it with the others and report on the comparison and return it to you.
    - I would bet that your product is made off shore. I haven't seen any USA made LED panels that sell in this price range. Even the professional panels used on emergency vehicles are mostly off shore products regardless of who is the distributor or where they are located. I personally have found the ebay and other China suppliers quite reputable and easy to work with if you have a product problem. For the price, though, warranty would not be much of an issue.
    - The strobe controls available are easily switched and wired if you desire continuous light rather than just strobe. However, strobe would be the generally useful mode unless you could get more light out of this kind of panel. The control shown in the referenced example does have the capability of strobing one panel then the other alternately which I presume is what you are calling "wig-wag".

    Keep on experimenting!!!!

  23. avidchh added a post in a topic HACman

    Herman,
Remember you still need to use the proper jetting for your base altitude or base range of altitude. The 180's that come with the HACman are like the 165's that come with the stock carbs. If you are flying from a higher base altitude than sea level you would need to jet properly for that base altitude or you are too rich at the full rich setting which is essentially the same as having no HACman in place since the valve is closed entirely. Otherwise you would need to lean out with the HACman at your base altitude unless you fly to a lower altitude than your base. That could limit your max altitude. I fly out of 6000 but can fly to an area close by that's just 3000. Most of the time I fly from 6000 up so I jet for about 5600 and that gives me good leaning capability at 13000 in our mountains. If I fly to the lower area I rejet for that flight.
