  1. Nice pictures!... the paint job really make this plane look pretty!

    About landing on pavement, I was surprised, and I still am, anytime I chose paved runways, I much rather land on grass; I taxi at far less RPM and the plane becomes really unpredictable, I guess I will have to practice more; one time I landed in a old Swedish Air force base and the taxiway was 3 km + was an airshow and there were no shortcuts, MAN!!! I really have to stay focused all the time on the taxi way, as soon as I hit the runway I was off the ground far faster than grass.

    Any advice from the experienced guys on asphalt operations much appreciated

  2. Man! I had the same problem as you before, and 2 things, I never EVER considered and were causing problems.....

    1.- Ignition; mine is a Rotax 532; had the engine overhauled from a certified workshop, with papers and all, they told me is spot on, WELLLL, NOOOOO...... I had to do that myself. check and recheck, in your case is electronic, so it won´t be a problem however "CHECK"

    2.- Propeller; initially, I had a 3 blade GSC, very common, as per book, pitch diameter, all very good..... took me more than 6 months, trial and error.. NOTHING couldn´t get it right......

    but trying another propeller, 2 blade lighter, the engine perform way better, and sounds smother too. EGT are now spot on, all the time, and actually very difficult to change them for hot or cold in all ranges, is almost as stable as I ever seen it.

    the #2 item, my mechanic friend said that perhaps the gear box is not tip top and need replace, but I will leave that alone by now, and hope to get a new one when I buy the 582.

  3. I will be changing my header tank, so is too big for the push rods remain connected, besides, I would like to have a little compartment right behind the seats, where I can put my head sets or small stuff all the time and leave it alone anytime I have to fold/unfold the wings.

    Soon I will make a cheap hangar for my plane, so I won´t have to unfold the wings anytime I go flying, I know is very easy, but in my case, I have a lading field at home and taking it out of the garage, as easy as it look, it takes me 45min to get all the things in front of the plane, out of the garage unfold the wings, re-fuel, daily inspection, etc. etc. etc.

    best regards

  4. Hmm haven´t done anything about the sling seat just yet, but reading Joey´s big post, newsletters, I found an article in august 1993; made by John Miller, I hope is the same John we all know with TONS of experiene in Avid flyer, he posted some very low quality pictures of his MOD, I find it very interesting, here are some pictures from the artcile, I hope to get a real good quality pics of his work..... help...anybody???

  5. Hey Ed;

    thanks for the advice, but I think I will go by Lenis here and I will  leave that for the future wing tank if possible!!!

  6. Hey Leni,

    How big is your header tank and where do you have it located it? pics will be nice; the blue lines are not a choice for me, in somehow, my inspector don´t like it, and he demanded to replace them all...  I used to have them between the pump to the carb, and he wasn´t please with it.

    Well is that is the case, I will put a plug in the AN4 then!!! no need to reinvent the wheel.....

    regards

  7. I was looking and the plans anywhere, with the original header, there are no vents, but I guess is not necessary to vent the header when is only 2 liter or so; this one is almost 15Lt, that´s why I have 2 connections on top, one for fuel flow AN6 and a smaller AN4 for vent. I thought about route it back to the tank, but I think is more complicated, I will make a independent vent, somehow routed it to the top of the fuselage.

    I will post pictures once the installation is done... right now I´m having a Chritsmas RUSH!!

  8. Hey Guys;

    I kind up screwed up in the tank measures, I`m struggling to fit it on the desired place, I should have make it narrower in one side by 2" or more and compensate in the other side. But I think I can manage, I one guy in England made it for me for about 200$;

    I bought many AN-6 fittings on a racing store, MAN I went crazy here, like a kid in a candy store I couldn´t help it.... I just couldn´t stop buying things there... all fuel lines will be replaced either by aluminium or Teflon, so I don´t have to worry about fuel lines anymore (knock on wood).

    other thing I found, after I ordered the finger I was installing  Paul´s new modified F7A in the controls I need it to replace a little bolt and digging in my boxes I found a brand new  fuel finger strainer from my old Volksplane project (DAM) I hate when this happens, I´ve been waiting for this tiny little piece more than a week to proceed with the fuel fixtures and I had it all along.

    turned out the finger will screw nicely in the tank female 3/8 NPT hole, however I have a aluminium piece for the Teflon hoses (AN-4), same thing 3/8 npt 18tpi that doesn´t fit on the tank, thus the question earlier.... hmmmm.... see the pictures, they both check out with the thread gauge... anodized perhaps???

    if you want to use the header tank drawing I suggest you check measures in your plane, don´t know what you guys have behind the passenger seat exactly, and take into consideration the rudder cable as well, which is a easy fix....

  9. Hey ED;

    I will run a tab on it carefully, it must be debrief from fabrication that caused the problem in the first place,  i´m not using finger strainer, but I ordered one to install.

  11. Hello Group,

    I bought a header tank with a little bit more capacity to increase my range, this one has about 15 liters (almost 4 gallons); and I will take the opportunity to replace all the fuel lines, as per inspector recommendation to teflon hose and/or aluminium pipe, I know it more expensive this way, however  I won´t have to deal with fuel lines anymore. Out of sight out of mind! (hopefully).

    I bought all the fittings on ebay, from racing cars fuel lines, AN-6 and so forth. HOWEVER I came across a problem I had and solved in a very CRUDE way, I Don´t know what type of thread the female WING tank fitting is, I bought it from Brett 3 years ago, and forgot to ask, I placed a NPT 3/8 fitting and it always leaked; but I covered it all up with fuel/oil resistance silicone and work ok.

    anybody know what type of thread this whole is?? is a 3/8 but BSP, UNF, ?????

    Thanks in advance.

  12. What i want to say, but Im going to let it die, is:

    The Carbon Cub is a 1320 MTOW (400 useful), 100 mph, light sport, two seat plane.  $175,000

    The Highlander SS is a 1320 MTOW (450 useful), 110 mph, light sport, two seat plane.  $100,00 - that will totally embarrass the CC in performance

    The Highlander is a 1320 MTOW (500 useful), 100 mph, light sport, two seat plane.  $80,000

    The Kitfox SS is a 1320 MTOW (500 useful), 120 mph, light sport, two seat plane.  $75,000 ($89,000 SLSA)

    The Kitfox IV is a 1200 MTOW (500 useful), 110 mph, light sport, two seat plane.  $40,000

    The Avid Mk IV is a 1200 MTOW (500 useful), 90 mph, light sport, two seat plane.  $30,000

    WTF?

    you´ve got to love this comparison.....same fun for way less money! --that does it--- my next plane has to be a FAT AVID to match the owner of course!!

  13. Hey Guys,

    yes they are insulation foam; and they are held in place with tabs of epoxy, how ever, I notice that this ones are too tight rubbing and compressing, I would like to be little bit loose like 1/2 milimiter or less and I will covered all around with tape.

    Regards

    Dimitri

  14. I`m happy with my sling seat, however is old an looks crappy, even thought the plane haven´t flow that much in total since they build it;

    I removed the 2" cushion foam from inside, and I will be putting reinforcements on the critical areas, not cushion but soft fabric instead, few layers; allowing me "hopefully..." to lower the seat without compromising comfort. the seat have some awful welding marks on it, so I bought new textile, and also a sew on custom patch (the one on the picture is a paper copy),

    I´m planning to cover the flaperon push rods area making some sort of hanging bags right behind the seat shoulders; much like some of kitfoxes have.

    I  have 2 aluminium protections over the push control rods, in case the sling seat fails, I will be not seating on top of the controls.

    if you guys see anything wrong let me know please.

    Regards

  15. Hey Guys, thaks for watching I think I explained in the video where it is, and also little bit of me on the introduction section as well.....

    I´m trying to get you to go to church every Sunday (just kidding)----------------

    I´m planning to do that in all the churches around Skåne (Skania - South sweden) I found it curious that in the middle of no where, in a town with less than 100 people living there, a big beautiful church in the middle, strike me first, and I asked an Old Lady who explained to me that early this century, the people with a lot of money in the area where the farmers; and it was like a non spoken competition between them to see who has the biggest and mos beautiful church in town, so they spend a lot of money helping the goverment build this churches.....

    So my flying EXCUSE is take short videos of churches in Skania, WHAT´s YOUR EXCUSE???

    Regards
