Today is a sad sad day... the wife found my lil corner of the internet, yes, this forum has been discovered... to top it off, she is now a registered member, so from now on please do not post up the offers for cheap Asian hookers, or private dancers to help me ease the pain of my plane sitting out in the cold all alone... From now on, please send those offers to me in a PM :lmao::lol:

Just kidding babe, welcome aboard :french11: Time to get the  started

    How about the lower 48?

Sheep arent a challenge to us in the lower 48 either! sorry..

If you click the link I put up for pure gas .org it shows the states across the bottom of the screen. Look up your state, and it will show all known gas stations that sell gas with no moonshine in it.

It's not just Alaska I think it's the entire flying community! When I had my mishap on the mountainside in the middle of BFE Idaho I was picked up by a fellow flyer in an hour and had my airplane fixed and outta there in 36 hrs. NO WAY I could have done that without the coordination and help of several people who I barely knew. Glad to hear your bird will soon be safe!!

Got a call tonight. The guy that has the cabin and runway a couple miles from the plane was able to land on the pond today with his cub and checked the plane out. He found my note in the plane and called me! Turns out we have some mutual friends and he is a super nice cool guy. He has a track rig that he can run over there and pick the plane up for me and either let me put the ski's on it, or he will put it on the trailer behind the track rig and bring it back to his place for me to do the engine work if I cant fix it out there. In the mean time, if it snows he will keep the wings swept off... Guys like this are the reason why I live here!

... up there in Alaska where men are men, so are the women and the sheep are scared. :stirthepot:

No sheep up here... not much of a challenge in them... A pissed off grizzly bear with a sore tooth.. Now that sir can be one hell of a ride!

I don't remember the price but somewhere in my old mind the $800-900 area for the Avid model sticks. Chris sold that aircraft a while back and I am in the process of trying to contact the buyer. Will update. The wheel, tire and tube did not come with it. Did you get yours yet?

Still waiting for UPS. Think the nose gear - without this attachment - from Kitfox is about $1500 - never heard of any price on this part. Appreciate any info you can get.

Now going to give someone a laugh or something to jive about - my nose gear support is the front frame of a bike that cost $100 at Walmart, and I took it out of a trash can for free - The fork cost me $30 and got the tire and wheel free from salvage - Retired pilots have to build cheap! I have to buy new wheel bearings tho.

Seriously tho - the old bikes were made out of 4130 a lot - this is like strong streamlined 3" tubing.

Carbon fiber bikes should be strong and light, but dont know how to weld that yet!

Do you know what these sold for new? Was that just the spring unit, or included wheel & tire/tube?

I sent a PM to Chris B., but no answer yet. Wonder if he is still using it?

I guess as a last resort, I will put this on the bathroom scales and see how much of my 175 pounds it takes to crunch it.

Neat - does it attach to strut when folded - I dont think you fly it sticking out that way - never saw one before - the Kitfoxes just have the braces that tie to tail.

The black brace is removed before flight.

That is my anti-collision brake. Just Kidding :lmao: That is the brace to hold the wings when folded.

Nice looking bird - Color can be spotted about anywhere - but what is that black rod sticking out from the strut attach to the ground? Never saw that before.

Thanks Leni for finding the pics for me. I have some drawings from Lee Dubay that show how to do an aluminum leading edge extention that goes out about 1 1/2". The 4" extention would give about 9% more wing area over a standard wing and move the CG in a way most Avids need it to go. I do wonder what it will do to the wing in regards to flying and stall characteristics though. I'm not saying it would be worse, just wondering. Take care, Jim Chuk

It should get off quicker and stall slower - I hope for better cruise too! My wing has the old twist which dont help.

If you read the Riblett letter about getting rid of the undercamber, the new rib eliminates the 100 mph wall that the Eppler rib seems to have because of the bubble that forms in the undercamber. The VGs UNDER the LE are supposed to help if you keep the undercamber, which should slow you down faster.

Look at the late Kitfoxes cruise speeds of 120, or so, and that rib is an intermediate between the two designs, but they float and dont slow down like the Eppler ribs.

I will gain more than the 4" (9%) on my wing, because I am not a flaperon fan - I am splitting them into 6 foot differential ailerons and 6.5 foot flaps, about 14 inches wide. Seperate controls - just KISS as best I can. But this engineering change sure extends the building time, as well as my injured shoulder which has cost me another year.

Here is a pictures of my little bird. Just got the strobe and position indicators installed last night. Hope to be 100% complete within a week. Also have belly pod, skis and floats. Ready for the great Alaska adventure. Right?

Also, from what I understand, the idle should be set at about 1800 to 2000 rpm. Is that correct?

    Thanks

    Ed's LE ext. thread

For the record, it was showing as on page 6 on my computer so it all depends on how many topics you have set per page as to what page it may be on.

    Hi,

Looking for a Kitfox 1 to potentially modify to be electric. Any update on this thread pertaining to the Kitfox 1 for sale?

    Thanks

    brendot@gmail.com

The last I heard was that TWISTER was going to look at it and possibly buy it. Dont know more than that.

What do you mean "modify to be electric"? The motor? I dont like electric on anything I can control manually - have got electric elevator trim and electric stabilizer trim for sale - dont use them.

I was going to run all the FAA approved billion dollar fuel lines but a buddy mechanic of mine said unless your going to run avgas or non ethanal premium all the time to not use the FAA hose.He said if you are running the plain ole premium it can contain up to 10 percent of the crap and thats enough to dry out the rubber that is in the hose.I just run the blue silicone hose from CPS and plan on changing it every other year.Never thought of the garden hose, then you could just have a hose bib for a shutoff on each tank.Randy

He was correct in telling you not to use the "certified aviation" hoses. There were test run on them many years ago and they swelled (shut, I thinK) or the lining ended up blocking ethenol fuel. Good old automotive hose is now made for ethenol, and is a heck of a lot cheaper - well, maybe not as cheap as chinese garden hose - but should last a lot longer. Thought vice-grips or clothes pins were made for shutting off fuel?
