My project plane has an electrically ground adjustable IVO prop. It also came with a small "Skull Cap" type spinner. I am considering a larger "full coverage" spinner for it though.

I was asking because a 12" covers about 1/3 or 1/4 of my air intakes - but think the hub will too?

I may have a undrilled 12 kit for sale someday.

In all seriousness - I'm using a "skull cap" style spinner that sits on the face of the Warp HP hub. Simple and functional.

I had one on my Ercoupe - simple and cheeap - Looks good too -

Your hub looks like an HPL, or older HP with scalloped sides - the new one, Lycoming SAE-2, Looks more like a triangle, and the skullcap wont cover it very well - the spinner needs to sit about where the end of the hub clamps on the blade, and that will take a larger spinner. I have a 12 inch, and think WD offers a 10, 11, maybe 12? Guess I will know more when I get the hub. I am planning on the Whirlwind Razorblades that fit the WD hub.

Yes, 12" sounds big - believe the big Hamilton Standard Props for the DC-6 we used to rebuild had that size or maybe a 10.

    12" spinner? Ed, are you sure you aren't installing a PT6? :D

OK - Next Question: What is diameter of 3-blade Warp Drive HP Hub, and what size spinner? For a EA81,

    PT6, Allison 250, R-3350?

    This is a common discussion.

A legal LSA does not have a 1320 "gross" weight. The FARs specify that it has a 1320# Max Takeoff Weight. This is not just semantics. Gross weight is part of design and construction. MTOW is an operational weight limitation.

The place where this must be shown is in the Weight and balance data. These documents must show proper calculations for no more than 1320# (1450# amphibian).

The data plate does not need to (and should not) show any "gross" weight information.

Guess that about answers all my questions.

    Thanks,

Couple of things pop out in my mind. You are required to carry a current weight and balance form in the airplane, and that should show gross weight. The other is the Data plate on the tail of the plane. That should show gross weight also. Then again, maybe I'm all wet! LOL Take care, Jim Chuk

    Jim,

I got the "kit" of stuff from EAA, and it contains a skinny (1" x 4") data plate, and dont think there is a space for GW on it - guess it is legal? Sure dont look like the bigger ones I have seen on planes.

Got to look at W/B sheet again to check on that.

I'm sure we will get some other opinions on this before long.

    Thanks,

Was reading some of the old comments about gross weight and paperwork in the Avid section posted last March -

If no gross weight listed, and it is not on the airworthiness certificate, then how do the ramp inspectors know that you are flying a "legal LSA" when you are flying as a LSP? Weigh the plane? I think I will label mine "LSA" some where in paint, or decals.

What if you had a one-of-a-kind that didnt fit the looks of an Avid or Kitfox or other kitplanes?

Then again, if one was not labeled, and loaded up to excede 1320 lbs, then it could still be flown by a private pilot as an experimental. Hmm, now that I have a 1550 landing gear.........

Would really like to see a picture of it

I have not seen or herd of it

They put this in one of the small cars - Believe too heavy and not enough power to compare to EA-81 which was also produced at the same time. Think the car was called "Brat"?

    :welcome:/>/> Ron!

I've taken the liberty of copy 'n pasting your post here so Leni will find your request for a new Magnum forum quicker.

Hopefully, he will NOT bunch you into the Avid+ forum as the Airdale LSA was. We are all unique models and deserve our own little slice of Paradise, IMHO!

Looking forward to learning more about your Magnum. :beerchug:/>/>

    Welcome "Magnum" Ron,

I second the motion to get Leni, or Joey, to make the Magnum posts seperate from other Avids. Several of us have the Magnum manuals, although we dont have the planes - Any question you ask will probably be answered in several ways. Maybe you can educate us about your plane.

I remember when they were touting the Avid as a crop duster! After growing up in a CD crowd, with Stearmans and Snows, I got a chuckle when I saw it - wondering how big a garden they could dust! :lol:/>

These cargo pods make me think if they are going to hatch a baby AVID. :lmao:

    Ed -

Perhaps I misunderstood, based on the original post I though he was trying to locate an actual rib not a drawing. dunno.gif

The KF 4-7 rib has a slight under camber on the back half of the bottom airfoil and truss style web cutouts, the Avid speed rib has a slightly positive bottom camber and oval web cutouts.

    Sorry Doug,

Maybe I was the one who misunderstood - I figured because he only wanted one rib that it was for a pattern - Think he has an earlier model plane. I made most of my ribs, and think they are better than factory - Just wish I would have known then to wait for a better rib to come out - Oh well, mine should slow down better, but not go as fast - not in any hurry to get anywhere any way.

That looks a bit larger than the KF cargo pod, and the shape would accommodate wider items than the cylindrical KF pod. Hard to see if the stock attachment system would allow for use with aluminum spring (Grove or other) gear, or bungee gear only.

Here are the pictures I promised. This pod would hold alot of camping gear. Could even fit my guitar. Maybe even my wife. If you guys in Alaska want one for the summer we should get with CAC plastics and get a form made or make one ourselves. I have no experience with fiberglass or gelcoat.

    Enjoy

I took a pic showing the difference between a KF 4-7 Riblett vs. Avid Speed rib. As you can see, NEITHER are flat bottom.

Hopefully, that will halt the hijack of this classified post. wink.gif

Good photos Doug - But dont think the post has been hijacked - Tim wanted a KF4 rib for a pattern - Think someone who has one could offer a drawing - I would certainly share mine at no cost if it would work for him.

P.S. you didnt designate which was the KF rib?
