Here's something you don't see everyday and when I caught a glimpse of those racks in a field near the Seaplane Base I did a U-turn to grab these pics.

that is how all the PA -18s are .  they run in guides up the trailing edge of the lift strit for the lower cable.  been working just fine since... 1942 or there abouts.

there is a P-16 based at M48,..very rare ,..the guy that owns it is having difficulty flying it,..he just bought it a couple months ago,..  watching to see what he does if he cant get the hang of flying it ,..it has 0235 on the nose ,..fresh fabric the only thing I don't like about it,..the aileron cables are outside of the wing ,..they follow the strut up to the wing

good idea Ed,..I once thought of using the latch from a mini van side window so it holds it open or closed with a couple barrels top and bottom,. of a piano hinge on the front of the window,..the  safety glass used in auto's is thicker so you'd have to put a spacer on the inside to compensate

ahhh, I got ya.  I cant see you having an extra 100 pounds of wiring in there either.  when you go out get a bunch more pics of the plane inside and out, see if we can spot something.

Where is your CG at now?  short field performance suffers if your in the forward edge of the envelope.  I like mine at 16-18"

I just have so little fuel capacity, only 17 gallons, 15 usable.  I have no range.  It sucks.  i really want another wing tank, just not sure how to make it happen without spending alot of money.  There is no lead, tail only weighs 57lbs.  The battery is just behind the firewall on the copilots side.  There is a good coat of paint.  I wont say you can see a weave but I'm sure if you looked you could.  I had a piece flake off the other day and it wasn't too thick

Got a box full of things I've designed and built for various purposes, mostly to make life a little better in one way or another

    Thanks

Is there lead in the tail?  Where is the battery at?  can you see the fabric weave or is it just nice and smooth?  I would dump that second header tank if it was in my plane and all the 787 plumbing to go with it

I may go to the airport tomorrow and take pictures of the airplane. Maybe someone might have an idea of what weighs so much. Maybe I'm missing something

Well like I said I will pull the battery and see how much it weighs. I have made it a goal to get this plane to 600lbs. I see no reason for it to weigh any more then that. I greatly simplified the instrument panel.

I designed and built this 12 volt tree stand for one of my buddies that in a wheel chair, it weighs 60 lbs and though the video doesnt show it, it has wheels, he can erect it himself , giving him total freedom when he wants to go hunting, he hasnt got to ask anyone to help him, he can also retrieve the deer with his wheel chair and then pick it up to gut it with the stand, the video is testing the track, it has a redneck weight ( bucket of rocks) weighing 100 lbs, the stand can lift 1600 lbs

I've towed it down the road at 100 mph, tows like a dream, its been deer tested at 60 mph , didnt leave a scratch on the boat but made hamburger out of the deer, it ran right between my truck and the boat, boat hit it, sent the boat ip 6 foot, it landed, no damage
