At 2AM yesterday, sitting in the garage scratching my head... I finally figured out that the nice certified 4 stroke engine I wanted to use for the Avid B (Franklin 2A-120) simply will not fit this aircraft without a large amount of modification. The engine mount will either go through the oil tank, or go through the intake system. Any of this would require cutting up and modifying a perfectly good airplane.
The other good 4 stroke options (R-912, HKS) are too expensive (for my unemployed ass to afford) at this moment.
So the proper thing to do is to put this in the hands of someone who is operating in an area where a 2 stroke (582, Simonini Victor 2) would be safe, or someone who has access to a 912 or HKS engine.
I repaired the damage to the fuselage. I bought a new replacement set of landing gear. The airframe is now nearly in flyable condition. I'm willing to repair the one remaining damaged wing part, and replace the one remaining damaged wheel. This will make a really nice airplane for someone, and I'm pissed off that it won't be me.
Instead of coming up with a cash sale number, I'm specifically looking for trades. Do you have a Cassutt or C-150 and want to go Light Sport? Do you have a glider and want to fly powered aircraft? Do you have a nice car but really want a folding wing STOL bushplane? I will consider trades, but no large trade-plus-cash for a significantly more expensive aircraft.

Hi Joey, am interested in the sling seats. PM me if you wish. I had tried to PM you earlier, but may not have gone through.

We have an amazing private collection of flyable planes at our field in a single hangar now. I set up a field trip for the guys from work to come out and check it out today as a company field trip. Beforehand the weather was perfect and I had my good camera so I took off and did a fly over of the base and shot a few pics.
C-5's and C-17's

More 10's and the base museum in the foreground
The RC field where I fly about a mile from my house
My house is the one with the two tall shadows from the trees in the lower center
Umm she's anatomically correct!

Lonnie Prince Aircraft Company (PAC)
Yeah, I guess he is a custom surfboard carver. He's been around longer than Catto and hasn't gotten as big of a head (about half the price).
The prop is a wood core with carbon fiber cover and hardened leading edge. Weight is approximately 9 pounds. The Prince props are famous for having the "P" tips. Looks like the tips of an aluminum prop that has had a slight ground strike.
This one probably looks familiar...

I know his thread is old, but for anybody else flying behind a two stroke, the thumping you feel in the airframe or rudder pedals means your mixture is to rich. Try leaning it out one clip. I richen my mixture until I feel that thumping then give the mixture control one turn to the lean side. That should make it real close to the right mixture.

New update: As of today, I have a Lonnie Prince Prop being made for this plane. 78" diameter x 50" pitch.

Four pages of the thread. He did get educated on the 582 and was pleased. The plane was wrecked coming off a trailer...

TJay this thread is a year old and from another forum but thanks for the reply. This was another classic case of someone having NO clue about two strokes or how they work trying to operate one. I wonder what the outcome ever was? Probably never learned to fly and tells as many people as possible how bad two strokes are.

Are the little plastic screens in the carbs installed. that is if you have Bing carbs What they do is stop fuel from bubbling which sounds exactly like what you have. Also set the plane at a high angle of attack and do a fuel flow test. Its a two stroke, if it has air and fuel it will run. Just have to figure out what the problem is.

I am also curious on this in case it comes up with the sale of this project I have. I listed that fuse on barnstormers tonight. I'll have to be honest with any buyer that I recommend it be blasted and recoated before being put back into service. Be nice to know roughly what that costs if anyone asks. I am too lazy to go back in this thread. What color did you go with Larry?

I heard from the guy at powder coating today. My plane will be ready to pick up Monday. As promised, I will share the cost when I have an invoice in hand.
Actually it is ready for pickup tomorrow, but I'll be out of town for the day on business.

7k is the highest I can remember having mine. But that's because I have a thing about not swimming in ice water.

For the record, I've had mine to 11.5 and she still had climb left, 300 fpm with a full load.
I figure the Mangy with a 105 hp Zipper should be able to climb right into orbit.

It cracks me up that we have so much info on this site about planes, yet you pick up on dumbo's topic.... 10k? I never fly that high, you can't see shit from up there, once you come back down to earth maybe you can see straight.

Thanks for the link and filling in part of my education. I was surprised their online configurator had so many flavors of KF's and Avids. I like that you can get an idea on configuration and pricing after filling a couple of dropdown choices. Are they adding a Kitfox Rotax Zipper in your honor?
