No corrosion, just lots of metal flakes. Shitty cell phone pics I guess.. Are you refering to what looks like pitting on the crank counter ballances? If so, that is just the casting but NO rust of corrosion. They are only machined on the sides and not across the outer faces.

Looks like I lost the oil pump or the check valve hung up. The front bearing is ok but the con rod bearing is toast and she got way hot! Only takes a few seconds without oil to eat that lil bugger up! Pics to follow in a few...

Okay, I really don't know much, but here's what I do know:
fuselage is a mark IV Avid, heavily modified
Power is a Blue Head 582
I think it has HH wings
He has (I think) a set of Aerocet Floats for it as well (photo of the plane on floats is on his website home page).

Some nice HDR photos of 9AFMy flying buddy Emmet who flies a sweet Rans S-7 did these photos for me while playing with his new camera set up. These photos were taken at Lake Pillsbury, CA on a flying camping trip last summer.

Larry,I had the same problem on my dragster,it has Wilwood brakes with 1/8 inch pipe thread and I could not get one of them to quit leaking.A race buddy of mine told me to use Loctite 545,I did and it hasnt leaked since.If that doesnt cure it then it may be cracked in the tapered pipe thread.Randy

I had a couple free hours today and after extending one wing in the garage and sitting in my Avid for 10 minutes making airplane noises i heard this drip, drip, drip. Hmmm, so i hop out and find a puddle of fuel on the floor. Reached in an turned the fuel off and then took the cowls off and noticed it was leaking out the air filter of the one carbs. I do remember touching the primer and think i must have cause some sort of siphoning action by acccident. I then decided it was time to start going through her and seeing what needs to be done to fly. Right away i noticed the Rotary valve tank was bone dry and one of the carb boots was cracked half way around. I'm sure glad the old owners didn't try to fly it over to me and really glad i didn't give it just the once over and try to fly it home. Now off to search the internet for parts.

Holy hell Larry, have you heard that all 912 powered planes are experiencing hellacious carb ice issues and that they will for certain end up falling out of the sky! You better just ground yourself till thos issue can be resolved
