I am using the stock ECM and CCU.  We worked with the cat factory a few years ago and got the fuel map dialed in for our clean fuel etc. so it has been re-flashed and the map really is spot on.

In looking at the pictures, I am not so sure that is a girl on Rotary wing!  If so, she will give our Kodiak Buffalo women a run for their money!

I thought many times about using one of my FI 600 engines, but at the end of the day, we have had too many issues with them.  The 800 is a dual plug engine that has good SMOOTH low end grunt and is very happy all day long running in the 6000-6800 RPM range.  If I run it the way I run a 582, I am looking at 112-118 HP at take off and double the TQ of the 582.  If I want to run it to 7800-7900 I can pull 140 HP easily on take off.

The 600 does not make crap for power till it hits 8000+ RPM.  my sleds are set up for CC racing and if I take them into the mountains its a bitch cause they wont hold the RPM.  The second that engine falls below 78-7900 I better be turning out and headed back down hill..  I hate having to turn out because I cant keep the track spinning

At the end of the day, you may get a 600 to give you SOME time in the air, but I dont think it will hold up to the constant use.  The 06-09 800 engines have been absolutely bullet proof with ZERO issues of customers bringing them into the shop for ENGINE repairs... There have been plenty of chassis repairs, but nothing Engine or Stator related at any of the Cat shops I deal with or have contacted.

cmon now... is it really that bad?  It is comedy.  What is more fun than giving rednecks guns and powder and telling them to do something stupid.  I would much rather watch DD than CSI, Bones or any of those other shows that our wives watch trying to figure out the perfect way to get rid of us

Damn, do ya hate baseball and hot and hot apple pie too

At the end of the day, it's kind of a modern "leave it to beaver".  Every other word is not bleeped out, it is pretty funny, and they promote God, Guns and Family.. In this day and age, I would say its one of the better of the reality shows out there.

But this is just my humble.. sort of ... opinion.  The great thing about this place is we can all disagree and still be friends   You may be wrong, but I will still call ya a friend hahahahahahaha.

I was talking about a guy on the rotary wing forum that had put an arctic cat  engine on her gyro and used a rotax b gearbox on it I think Leni is doing basically the same thing putting a rotax c gearbox on a latter arctic cat 800 engine I am considering doing this but with the earlier arctic cat zr 600 engine sorry for the confusion I am interested in the adapter plate that he is having made and what ecm {engine control unit for the fuel injection} he is using by the way how are you doing today?

The information there can be good sometimes, but I always hated the format.

The new format, if it is actually possible, is worse.

on one of my phantoms I had a 503 free air DCDI with a tuned pipe,..can't remember the name of the pipe but man that thing would snap you back and hang on the prop if you wanted ,..if your into aerobatics without worry of your ship coming apart..the phantom is a great platform

gotcha..most of my 2 cycle rotax were free air,..I only had one inverted mount on a quicksilver that had the fan and duct work

That would only kick in when you shut the engine down and don't have any airflow.  The ducting routes cooling air through the fins whether its right side up or upside down (on an air cooled engine)

I think the original inverted engine was like Chase said.. to clear the exhaust and to get the trust line where Dean wanted it, yet keep the cowling low.  The visibility is MUCH better over the cowling on an Avid verus a Kitfox because of the inverted engine and the cowling clearances.

I think with my conversion due to the lay down design of the engine, I can get it all stuffed in the cowling with the engine right side up and maybe only lower the thrust line about 1/2"  I can live with that!

As far as the year range of engines for conversion... 06-09 on the AC 800 engine.  This has the larger crank in it that is oh so smooth.  The 10 and up have the lighter crank that gives you the "Harley" shake and you have to run premium gas in them.  I do remote flying where there is no premium gas for 100's of miles, and adding octane boost to an unknown rating already is a crap shoot on keeping it from burning down.

but in my mind heat rises,..so an upside down engine isn't using the fins on the head to cool much heat,..its going into the block

the only advantage of mounting the engine upside down that I have seen is routing the exhaust and upside down the cowl can be 1/2" from the engine to top cowl

I was there in the mid 80's, I was th company scrounge and drove everywhere around Europe to trade our extras for what we needed, I got run over by a new seargeant in a HUMMER in Grafenwehr and that did in my career, I have had a bad back ever since. I don't trust New York drivers either. I spent most of my time as an acting jack Sgt so I could have more influence while trading and they didn't have to pay. Spent many a weekend at the Topper club in Frankfurt.

How much trouble is it to build a mount to turn the engine right side up in an Avid, I am not sure why it was originally turned upside down, but I am planning on a right side up installation, Is there anything I should be looking out for, when I bought this plane the first owner had mounted a firewall and had about 2 inch spacers between the mount and firewall, I had originally thought it was for Balance, are they needed or should I just bend up the firewall to fit the engine in the proper place.
