And, don't forget that Kitfox has moonshine-resistant tanks too - After all, Kitfox is just an Avid Clone.

    Thanks Herman,
I believe I now have a better understanding of the controls on both the Avid and Kitfox models.
    Good Flying,

Not so much in the 80 hp as the 100. The 100 is more violent a shake at start and shut down.

Mine is defiantly an anomaly. Stemming from a very easily 912 (1992-3). The newer ones have a different gearbox design. My project planes motor is a 1995-6 and has the newer style gears.

The die hard or is it jealous 2 strokers are sure having a good time with any weakness's in the 912.
So is the 912 vibration due to carb mounting a common issue on the Model 4 since I am hoping to own one in the future?

Crazed pilot has a model 5.
The design of the Model 4-7 flaperon linkage which requires disconnecting the push rods to fold the wings solved 2 problems that  many of us with older Avid's and Fox's are trying to solve.
It gave differential flaperon movement for less adverse yaw (which we are trying to resolve with the F7a bell cranks) and opened up the area behind the seat for a true baggage area.

I will also be interested in the F7a bell cranks if they fit a Model 2 Fox

Depending on the prop that was on the motor a prop strike may not be that bad for a 912.

It does NOT mean a full tear down like a certified motor.  It would require pulling the gear box to check it for runout and gear damage.  (Not difficult)  If the gearbox is okay, most likely the crank is too.

Where is it?  How many hours?  What kind of damage did the plane suffer?  (nose over or just 'looped with folded gear causing a nick to the tips?)  These answers will determine if the $7500 is still a good number.

If the s/n checks out as not needing any further work per the logs (through 2006), I would offer to pay for the gear box inspection at LEAF, Lockwood or CPS if he takes it off and sends it in.  If the 'box checks out, then the number is pretty good for 600 (1200 TBO) or less hours.  If not, you are only out at most a hundred bucks for the inspection.

Ed it's not "they won’t work", the tanks I manufacture have a slight variation in the wing profile and if you want to fly then I say go for it and make it work. That’s what experimental is all about.

EG are you referring to the filler neck you sent me? Yes I did get it however I am still in the Middle East on my deployment. Hoping to be home soon and then I get to have my own mini Christmas going through the mound of stuff I have ordered over the last 7 months. I figured that engine was really old and had issues for that price. Thanks a ton again for sending that part!! Joey

I guess I could take a chance on it and send the gearbox to Av8r3400 to fix.  Looks like he is going to be a 912 gearbox pro when he gets through sorting his out!!

but of course!  The PA12 I learned to fly in probly had more duct tape on it than ceconite!

I think you are right to avoid this one - A prop strike requires that the engine be torn down and the crank checked in any engine.  With this one, the redrive may also be damaged - and other parts.
