I have been unloading a bunch of spare/ obsolete parts on ebay lately, and have found that the best way to list items is to do a search for what you have, and then do an advanced search for what has sold, by using that you get an idea of the prices they re bringing and in what category. You can use the sell one like this in the sold search and put it where things will sell the best. When buying I try and find things that have been listed wrong or in a inappropriate category, sometimes I have been able to triple my purchase price by finding something put in a category that no one else looks at. I bought a set of hegar wheels brakes and tires for under $50 because the person that sold them put them in the wrong category.

    Forum Hacked
Sorry guys, but the forum was hacked twice yesterday.. I think we have it back up and running and the new security patches should prevent further attacks.. today anyways..

As always, thanks for hanging in there and being patient with me as we muddle our way through fighting the Somali and Turkish cyber pirates..

And small bolts wear faster and get weaker as time goes by - bigger is better - but not bragging!
And, why did this post end up on the wrong section?

    Chris,
The whole secret to using two wing tanks without vent lines is in fuel management - If you get an empty wing tank and the other is not turned on, then you can get air in the header and that line - If you leave that tank on and turn on the other tank, the fuel should push the air back up and try to equalize in the empty tank, and then you can shut the empty tank off - but if you shut off that tank before opening the full tank, then you block the air from escaping the header.  This is where the clear lines can let you know what is happening in the system.
I would rather have the vent line and not have to worry about it.
     Does this make sense?

It was possible on my Magnum to route the fuel lines from each header tank up to the respective wing tank with a continuous upward sweep so air could escape the header tank into the fuel tank and not stay in the system for long. Eventually air trapped in a header would burp up hill into the fuel tank. That precluded the need for vent lines. I had to re-route the lines through notches I cut in the turtle deck to achieve the continuous sweep, but the peace of mind ws well worth it.

There is a long and scary (for me) engine out story and discussion on the yahoo board on the subject. I don't want to write it all over again here.

Bottom line if you cannot get a continuous upward sweep from header to fuel tank so air in header can escape, IMHO you need vent lines.

It is my opinion after a great deal of thought that if you are going to run vent lines they should vent into the fuel tank if possible. If not possible, I guess you have to do what you have to do to allow air to escape the header tank(s). Any siphon (uphill then downhill bump in the fuel line) between the header tank and fuel tank will make it possible for air to accumulate in the header tank(s)

Ha Ha - You got me good there - I thought 601 was an engine - could not imagine a 2 cycle with same redrive - never thought about a Zenith with a Soob in it!     Must have forgotten to take my memory pill this morning, or was that yesterday?
    EdMO
BTW:  Regarding the comment that early Avids and Kitfoxes 1-4 are not long enough for the Soob engine - I extended my "Foxy" leading edges 4 inches, and my tailfeathers by 12 inches - Think that is enough to make a 15 inch stretch for the Soob?  Guess we will find out someday!

Well, I think I wrote this in the wrong post - guess I am officially senile!  Where did I put those memory pills - I keep forgetting........

I think this 2.5 Soob in the Murphy will be a good bet if it has been flown for a while with no problems.  You need to ask how many hours he has on it.  These engines are good for up to 3000 hours, or more, before overhaul.
    EDMO
As far as the early Foxes and Avids needing the 15" stretch to balance the EA-81 Soob,  I extended my "Foxy"  leading edges 4" and my tailfeathers 12" - Hoping this will be close enough to the "stretch" for my Soob.
    Time will tell.

A few blanket statements in regard to Avids and Kitfoxes and the Subaru motor:

A, B, C, and stock Mk IV Avids should avoid the Subies for weight reasons.  In order to balance these planes an unreasonable amount of ballast is needed in the tail.  The Avid +, Airdales (Pursang) and those Avids that have had the 15" stretch modification will handle it and often work with a Subaru very well (as I'm sure Randy will attest to).

I, II, III, and IV Kitfoxes should also avoid Subies for all the same reasons.

The Achilles heal of Subaru installations has always been and always will be the PSRU system used.  I don't know much about them, so I will let others speak to the particulars, but there have been good ones and there have been bad ones.

    Buyer beware.

Re: the Subaru EA81 It's on its way. I called Yellow Freight and they will bring it from Lafyette La. to Uxbridge for less than 500 bucks. The owner takes Pay Pal, which is just too convenient. I'll post more pics and info when it arrives. Thanks to all again for the help on this.

Soobs are better than good - will outlast any Lycosauris, and burn 1/2 the gas at $3 per gal instead of $6 gal for avgas - and overhaul, if you should ever need one, is cheap.  Cars can run 3 to 400K if people just do regular maintenance like oil changes.  Just guessing, the 2.5 Soob should cruise about same or a little less gas per hour as your 618, and the 1.8 Soob will burn 1/2 that.  A 320 Lycoming will burn twice as much as your 618.
There were two versions of the 2.5, a single overhead cam, and a double overhead cam - Both have been out for a long time.  I cant say which is better, or that it matters.  The only bad thing was that the weight increased too much for the Kitfoxes and Avids.
