Joey, being that your engine is mounted inverted, I would think that the small second from the top fitting would go to the small fitting on the water pump. Jim Chuk

    dav8or,
Can you post a photo and tell a little more about the GSC angle setting fixture - I have a WD protractor.
Still think that Jim Chuk made the best fixture with his laser thingy.

Everyone I know is wrapping the pipes on their 912's without problem. Most are not wrapping the mugffler, but installing a heat muff to extract heat for the cabin. Wrapping the pipes and installing a muff on the muffler keeps oil and cooling hoses as well as engine mounts from being destroyed by heat.

I flew my IFA GSC for hundreds and hundreds of hours. BryceKat is flying behind it now. I thought it was super well built and a very nice piece of engineering. Would like to hear more about the one that threw a blade. Seems so unlikely from my experience with mine.

Are U copying the plumbing on the MKIV? I think the cooling system on the MK IV is very clean. Need a nice cowl lip and a lot of air exit area at the bottom to function correctly though!

Mine uses hose clamps to hold it to a thin, flat plate welded to the mount brace.

Thanks for the info. How is it physically mounted to the airplane? I have a fireproof firewall blanket. Is it mounted directly to the firewall?

Tried to upload some photos...no luck

Mine is mounted on the right side of the FW outboard the right, upper engine mount brace. The top fitting on the left side (in your picture) goes to the overflow bottle. The next one down goes to the engine head (top rear). The left (in your picture) radiator hose goes to the right belly radiator tube. The right radiator hose (in your picture) goes to the engine thermostat.

Mine have the lovely flaking paint trailer trash look.  So if thats what you're going for I see no other way than painting them.

    Jon,
I had my 582 exhaust ceramic coated.  It ends up with a silvery metallic finish.  Though I don't have before/ after data, it does seem to move more heat out of the cowling.  It makes sense since nothing radiates heat better than a flat black surface (in this case inside the cowling).

I figured you had a Jab by looking at the cowl openings - which I know fits the baffles - I was just thinking that most of the Kitfoxes have larger openings like a Cessna 150, and maybe that was part of your cooling problem along with the big spinner.  I've got a Subaru.

Ours are also cad plated and we taped them off before paint, i agree with Ed they don't need paint with the cad plating and they look better than they will later on with flaking paint. just my .02

What engine do you have.  Mine's a Jabiru 2200 and the openings are the same size as the Jabiru plenum chamber opening.

I think you just covered up your request for photos of the filler neck mounting for your 582 rad.  Nice photos tho...

Helping out a fellow forum member with getting his newly acquired Avid from CA to CT. We moved it to my hangar yesterday. A few mods and some test flights and it's headed for the East Coast.

    Very nicely build MK4.

Made a little progress today. Side radiator is officially gone and I cleaned everything up really well. To replumb my cooling system the hose is going to come up right where my gascolator is. I know Leni ditched his and I'm thinking I will do the same to make room.

You can see where the hose needs to be routed with this radiator set up.

    Lots of metal gone!

2-stroke Kitfox drivers I need a couple of pictures of how this is mounted under your cowling.

    Paul,
I really like that "move something" feature.
Now, for an old fart who don't know a bit from a divot - is this on a CD?  or do I have to write something in my puter?  If so, then I have already crashed!
How much to ship one?  I know CDs cost and so does shipping.  I would be glad to pay you.
    Thanks,

Yes, it will work for any plane.  The range for any given plane is set by the designer and this spreadsheet will not help with that but is great for calculating the W/B.  All that is required is that you plug in your own weights and measurements.  I built this spreadsheet when I was changing engines in my Q-2 and was figuring out where to place the engine to achieve proper W/B so it also contains a section called "move something" that allows the user to see the results of moving anything from a battery to an engine from one location to another.  I will be happy to send a copy to anyone that would like one.  Just drop me a PM and I will get it out.  There are a lot of good CG spreadsheets out there that will do the basics. This is the only one I know that has the Move Something capabilities. And yes it will work with new fangled airplanes with nose wheels.  Just plug in your numbers for the training wheel where it says "tailwheeeel.

    TTP,
Just using that as an example:  One designer might use 20% chord for forward CG and 30% chord for aft CG limit (Kitfox?), while another designer with the same rib might use 17% forward and 33% aft (Avid?).....calculation may have something to do with distance to tail feathers, how large the horizontal stabilizer and elevators are, amount of travel, etc. - or just what the designer guesstimated?
I need to read my design book again to see what it said.  Seems like nothing is "carved in stone"!
Akflyer said that his plane flies better at a "very aft" (I forget what inches) CG, and I think he confirmed his findings with Dean Wilson.

Note:  The figures I stated above are probably not perfect - If anyone wants to calculate them from the factory W/B sheets of each Brand with undercamber wings, I would be happy to see them.

On the early Kitfox, these were plain metal and painted - I wonder if paint might peal off of the plated ones - I think I would tape them when painting the flaperons unless you know how to paint plated metal.
Nothing looks worse than spotted, pealing paint.

Thanks for all the help....We will go back out to the hangar and set his plane up again and get every station documented, marked with plumb-barbara...his plumb has breasts. I have the spreadsheet and will follow EAA suggested method and compare the outcomes. This should be interesting compared to what we had to work with...not much.
Ed...we both have undercamber wings....ribs are nearly identical to a point .

    Paul,
Does that spreadsheet work for any plane?  Do you have any info on how the fore and aft CG limits are calculated - It seems that each designer has his own dimensions/parameters and similar planes have different ranges, like Kitfox and Avid for the undercambered wing are different, I think?

I sent you a PM with a spreadsheet attached that I wrote that will make it easy to do the WB.  And yes the only WB that are of a concern are the loaded numbers because the plane does not fly without pilot and at least some fuel to get airborn.

Good information.  I have the 1/2 inch clearance as required but you know me I like to over engineer.  The two water pipes (belly radiator)  on each side of the firewall that are close to the exhaust I plan to wrap them rather than the exhaust pipes.

On the muffler I can put part of an insulation blanket on the front and back to protect the fiberglass and firewall.  This should work.

    Thanks again for the information.
