I will use all automotive stuff on the Mangy Fox fwf.

Spoke to Steve Krueger this evening about your partially cooked piston. You may want to reach out to him for a second opinion on your engine stuff. He has been building and rebuilding Rotax two-strokes for 20 years or more.

You are talking to the guy who fried the alternator on the test stand at Av School !!!
I wouldn't know a "Zenith Fryode" from a "Rectalfire", but I can machine most anything.
I have something in a package that Aeroelectrics ( Jim Weir, the guru who writes for the aviation mags and used to own Northern Lights Electronics ) sells.  I tried to download the instructions for it, but he has all his site files "Zipped" and I don't know how to unzip them!
But I see all kinds of overload protectors for Cessna, Piper, whatever, being sold on ebay....

Can you somehow wire in a Zener diode to limit the voltage?  http://www.electronics-tutorials.ws/diode/diode_7.html

It's going on this weekend hopefully. I have to mock it up, set the axle depth, and drill the back plates and then spray it snd replumb the brakes.

What are you guys using for 1" radiator hose? The stuff that's on there now is super heavy duty you can't even squeeze it. Dean Wilson installed it.

What is the best overvoltage gizmo to use for a car-type, or airplane type, alternator that has a built-in regulator?

Key west has been on my challenger now for 325hrs never goes above 14.1 volts I would buy another one.

And would you please get that tk-1 gear on that thing, I have a feeling I am not the only one that wants to watch you drop her in from 5 feet smiling.

Rotax Rick is a little stumped on this one as well. He's going to replace the cylinder it sounds like. More to come.

I would order a key west reg. They run about $65. I ran a fuse between the reg and my power distribution bus.

I like the key west voltage regulator.  I am not an electrical guru, I will leave that to someone like ChrisB to hopefully answer.

    582 charging
Recently on startup I see my voltage go high for a while(16vat idle, off the guage at revs)
This is a randome and recent thing
About 150 hrs ago I replaced mi original regulator when in flight it went to full charge a cooked my battery.
I currently run a briggs& Stratton reg which looks the same but has a separate earth wire.
    Question1
    Where should I start looking?
    Q2
If I were to run a circuit breaker, where should I put it
    1
    between the battery and regulator
    2
On one or both yellow wires from the charge coil.
There appears to be a bit of conflicting information on the best method any advice preferably based on experience would be much appreciated

Wrapping headers on auto use appears to make them brittle
The last thing Anyone needs is a cracked exhaust under a wrap that may get missed at preflight
A heat shield would be the best option if needed.
There is a lot of air going through a cowling!

I am following you now. I had a chance a pick up a mk4 fwf but for the price and time to swap it I could not justify it.

I Know , I was thinking for someone that was putting a blue head in a Mk 4.It might give them an idea. Sorry for the confusion.

Jim our cooling set ups are totally different. My bypass hose comes around the front of my engine because the radiator is behind the engine. I was looking at your old bird on Sunday trying to figure out the difference. I had to trim my cowl to clear the hose.

Please get rid of that prop ,I had one throw a blade on a KF4, I was lucky . Get an IVO.

we changed over to the G/A 3 blade 68" IVO, much smoother, better performance, and super easy adjustment.

Joey  you might want to take a picture of the firewall,it was mod for the hose on the back of the bluehead. The plumbing on a greyhead is a little different. IThe bluehead can be installed without changing the firewall, but you have to chang the pluming and the hoses will run too close to the exhaust manifold.

Chris No I am doing just a belly radiator and using a Kitfox filler neck. I will end up glassing my cowl over where the side scoop was. I would need a mountain of parts including an engine mount to do a 4 set up.

I plan to wrap my 912 exhaust pipes and wrap the muffler with a cabin heat muff. That said, The exhaust in my Magnumm was not wrapped and I saw no reason to do so. Clearances were adequate. Similar with my 582 MK IV. Never wrapped, but clearances were not an issue there either.

So...exactly how is wrapping supposed to shorten the life of the exhaust?

Well I just got an email from Rotax Rick regarding my engine. The Mag side piston was in rough shape on the intake side only. He's got real no explanation. The exhaust side is the hot side typically. Has anyone on here seen this before? He said he was still evaluating the cylinder and would replace the cylinder rather than bore. These were OEM pistons with 352 hrs on them. I'm a little bit concerned now and I'm wondering if it had anything to do with my engine out a few weeks back. I am pretty positive the electrical plug was the culprit though because it ran fine once I fixed that. I haven't done a compression check in a few months but when I did it was still reading over 100 PSI and both cylinders were right together. Thoughts from the masses on why only piston would score on the intake side?
Besides that they look great for being past TBO.

I have some pictures from another member who's done this. I have the plumbing figured out, I am just trying to decide on the cleanest/easiest way to mount the Kitfox filler neck under the cowl.
