Source for Blue head water bypass hose?
Looking for a water bypass hose for my blue head as mine has a chaff on the backside that went undetected. It's just a little wear spot but I want to replace it since everything else going back under my cowl is brand new. None of the usual suspects seem to carry it. I am scared at what it's going to cost when I do find one. Engine is back from Rotax Rick time to get back to this project.

Take a look at this mount if you like. It works for smaller sized tablets, and only $9. It will clamp onto the Avid's tubing in front or above you. Jim Chuk

    Thanks Randy,

I went to the ForeFlight site and they only have software for the I-pad. Bummer...  The AVARE app for the Android OS has a lot of features, I'm still learning how to use it effectively.  The Terrain Awareness feature seems like a handy tool to have in mountainous regions.

If I can get hands on a RAM mount I'll see if it can fit the TAB-4 (or be modified).  I like the way it is presented in your cockpit.  Nice and easy to see.  I just got an armored cover for my TAB-4 and I think I could manufacture a mount to adapt fairly easily.  I have a mini machine shop so making is sometimes easier than buying.

Looks like you still have a functioning Garmin 296 on the panel also.  I just figured out how to resurrect my old Garmin GPS III.

I just bought an antenna from ACS for the mangy. I'll mount it to the plate welded in behind the turtle deck, where my yellow plane has one mounted which works fine. It's a fiberglass whip whip cost around $160.

I use 29" ABW with Matco brakes on a model 4 Kitfox.
The brakes were poor until I had Matco sleeve the master cylinders from 5/8" to 1/2".
Matco insists that for their brakes to work well, your pedal geometry and master cylinder bore needs to produce 600 psi pressure with reasonable pedal pressure.
Now they work good enough to stand it on the nose.
I was considering adding another caliper as Leni suggested but wanted to avoid the weight and complexity.

Mine looks like a Commant faired vertical slanted back - Can't say which is best.
Used is the way I go, if the seller has any kind of guarantee or return policy.  Prices are a lot cheaper than new.
Foil (gold?) or whatever, is easy to just glue on under fabric and ground to antennae - Even an X is better than nothing.
If you use anything stiff under the antenna then you should put a fabric patch on it, but a thin rubber cushion under/over fabric might help.  You still have to ground your antennae.
Your plane is painted, so you want to make the mount as small as you can.

Wow...I didn't realize it was that complex. My other plane had a fiberglass whip mounted on the bottom and on an aluminum panel, but nothing fancy...it always worked good.

I don't want it hanging from the bottom. So I'm sure I can make some kind of mount on the top side of the empennage.

Ok...the ground plane? Am I reading right that it is foil like?
I read one of your post Joey where you said it was gold looking and was just glued to the fabric?

Can anyone give me their brand and type of antenna?
I see a lot on ebay. Any reason I shouldn't buy a used one?

    Thanks,
    Ron

I think "Herr Adolph" was referring to flying a RV-8A, a nosedragger!
Hey, I can march in a reenactment of the Revolutionary War with you,
or fly in a Wright Brothers replica with a nose skid, or a modern day Jet with a nose wheel, or fly a taildragger !
Bring it on - You cant offend this old flyer!   Leni likes to try, but what can a guy say when he has water wings on his spam can!
Just make sure you fly it GOOD where ever and whatever you fly!

    Mark,

It is a RAM mount for the Ipad Mini, what they call the roller mount and I have the ball ends mounted to the panel and to the ipad mount.  I used the shortest arm between the balls.  it lets you position the Ipad in a lot of different ways.  The APP is ForeFlight. the basic plan with synthetic vision.  The subscription is $99 a year for US.  You also need to get a Bluetooth GPS receiver to sync to the ipad.  I got a Garmin Glo but there are others that will work.  If you get the ones with AHRS in them they will actually show your attitude on the synthetic vision screen, but those cost more.  I think the Glo was around $129. and it is clipped to the back of the RAM ipad mount with the little belt clip so you cant see it.  I plug them both into the airplane power as you can see in the pictures.  I am just getting used to using the ForeFlight and it can do a bunch of stuff.  a lot that I will never use but for planning and flying cross countries and unknown routes it is a great help.  Plus stores all the airport information for every airport, does flight plans, W&B, calculates all distances, plug in your plane info and it does your fuel, time, etc, etc.  Updates every  26 or 28 days with all the charts you want to load.  For local flying in areas you normally travel there is not much need for it but sure is nice to plan and use where you haven't been before.

What's really funny is that the Wisconsin Hamburger fly-outs are a real thing!  Almost every day of the week is a fly-out.

Someone on one of the Vans forums did a similar Hitler video. This came about because there was an argument about the best RV takeoff procedure I guess. I thought they were a little hard on the guy, but it was funny:

Jim,  I liked it - At least they didn't wear pink shirts and frilly underwear!
The guys who fly outdated technology have to pick on someone - Why not bash Boeing, Cessna, Piper, and all the ones who have advanced with modern technology and physics to make nose draggers, and not just the guys who are lucky enough to fly them?
Have you ever seen a taildragger F-15?
A wise man once said, "It's not what you fly, but how good you fly it".   Smart man, IMO...

  18. EDMO added a post in a topic Avid's published G ratings - working or ultimate load?

I heard that Dean had flown the early wings .065 wall spars (without spar inserts??) at 1500gw - Cannot verify that, but it would be a lot for an 850 lb gw rated plane.
I did post the Kitfox strut test in Files and Forms - read it there - I am not going to try to remember the figures, but they were great.

Avid's published G ratings - working or ultimate load?
I'd always assumed that all the G ratings specified in Avid's original literature were "working load" ratings similar those specified for certified aircraft, i.e: a 50% safety factor before the ultimate load and failure point.

However, I stumbled across http://www.challengers101.com/GrossWeight.html, which implies that sometimes experimental designers specify things in terms of ultimate loads.

Anyone have a feeling if the +4.4/-2.2 figures repeated in all the literature are working or ultimate figures?

I doubt it will change the way I flight test or fly N157AB at all, but it does slightly affect my comfort level

    Sincerely,
    Jim

Great pics!  Not a lot of landing spots in that terrain.

Change subject:  How is your tablet mounted? Describe the APP you are using. Is a subscription required?

I have a TAB 4, 7.0 and I use AVARE (it is free) but it does not have the terrain aware function.  We have similar terrain situations here in portions of the Washington Cascades.
