    MarkD,

I get what you are saying...I often feel we are over regulated and it is easy to take the F' it attitude, but I just witnessed a guy take that road and he got busted. He was running a skydiving business so it is a lot different when you are endangering paying customers, but I'll tell you he is facing serious fines and possible jail time.
I'm not sure you can dodge the ADS-B requirement in 2020 unless you stay out of the designated airspace, which will be easy to do with our little airplanes. ADS-B out is giving them your information/location and in their big scheme of things will replace the need for radar service.

We need the third class medical abolished! Here in Colorado we see people in their Later years buying the biggest Recreational Vehicle out there, hop on the highway and drive it at 75 mph...no requirements other than a drivers license! You can't tell me that flying an airplane endangers more people than that, or come anywhere close.

Unfortunately our system for changing the rules is obviously broken, and I'm sure now the FAA will have to deal with an increase in individuals breaking the rules...We need to be heard and our politicians need to take action! I'm not advocating breaking the rules by any means, but the heavier the regulations become the more we will struggle until we give up...

    Anyway, my two cents...

I think some just rivet the small plate to a longeron or horizontal tube - guess it could be vertical and still be legal?

    Mark,
I either have, or can buy round Nylon - I need some parts about 2 1/2 OD, and some 1 1/2 OD before machining. I also have some flat nylon if someone needs any, and maybe some round Teflon too, but you can buy it at Spruce or other places. I made new Teflon O-rings for my Cessna 150 steering wheel shafts to replace the rubber ones where it goes thru the IP, and have extras if anyone needs some.
    Thanks,

Mark,A flaperon including control tube is about 12.5 feet long - boxed would be about 13 feet. UPS ground will not ship anything over 8 feet long. It has to go by truck freight.

How much do you need Ed?  I have a 5" x 4" x 1" piece of what appears to be nylon from all the scraps I got with the machine shop I bought.  If I still lived in Illinois I'd bribe you with it to come show me how to work all that equipment I got!

Depending on how big a hurry you are in, I'll be going back sometime late October/Early November to get the Avid - last load on my move to Florida!  Woo Hoo!

How long is a flaperon? (my Avid is 1000 miles away right now).  I just got two new trim tabs for my Cherokee, which are a little wider than I remember my flaperons, but shorter.  The box is 5 feet long, and well built.  The body is 1 by lumber with a top and bottom cardboard screwed on with drywall screws and washers.  It was filled with the shipping equivalent of pour foam.  It came UPS ground.

    Rick,
I don't do emails, and don't much like phone calls - You can PM me on here.
UPS will only ship a flaperon by truck freight, and that costs a lot.
I don't think that it would get to you without damage without being boxed.
Have you tried to buy one from Kitfox?
I would want about half of new price plus boxing and shipping.
I am sure that Kitfox can ship cheaper than I can.

    Ed,
I'm located in Puerto Rico and the flaperon can be easily shipped via UPS or Fedex in a box with protective padding. I would pay for shipping of course. Quote me to see if I can afford this. It would be better if you email me at
    rickpabon@yahoo.com Or call me 787-404-3562
Hope to hear from you soon.

I am located in Puerto Rico. The flaperon can be easily shipped via UPS or Fedex without requiring wooden crating. Just some protective padding. Of course I would pay for shipping.

I guess I'm going to take the absolute opposite view on additional Fed regulation.  I'm going to ignore it.  By the way, who is checking anyway.  I'm probably not going to bother getting another medical, may not even bother with a BFR.  I fly an EXPERIMENTAL homebuilt airplane out of a non-towered airport in class G airspace.  I have a com radio but no transponder.  I usually have no business going into a controlled field or class B airspace. I fly anonymously for the most part and stay out of other peoples way.  And...  There is nobody checking.  Unless you have an unfortunate event that results in property damage or a fatality no one even comes out to look.  I have worried for years about being "Legal" and following all the rules (most pilots do) and spent a lot of money to do so to no tangible benefit.   So now I get to be one of those "Old Guys" that just does stuff because I can.

I don't know anything about this prop - used - looks good - looks like it may fit a Rotax - looks like composite with nickel edges, and probably looks like a RIGHT turning TRACTOR, or a LEFT turning PUSHER - Nothing stated?
Price just lowered from $600 to $450 and no bids yet.
One more day left to bid on it.
I can give you number if you want it.

The offer stands as long as I have the machines and ability to perform the machine work.

I agree to not use the material with additives. Raw Nylon or Polyethylene as bearings/bushings for aluminum works well. Graphite on aluminum can cause intergranular (stress) corrosion and or galvanic corrosion depending upon the environmental conditions.

I'm not sure about chemical properties of the Molybdenum-Disulfide lubricant. In grease it is usually used in High Load Bearing applications. I do know that Moly-coat (MDS based grease) does not wash out when you get it on your jeans and really makes the little woman unhappy when it gets into the washing machine and gets all over her stuff. (Another manly way to make her really unhappy, deep sigh. She will not wash shop rags anymore.)

I have been wrong before, so here goes:
I THINK - That they only data plate required is the small one from the EAA.
I THINK - That the mounting place is on the fuselage, at the tail, under, or at, the horizontal stabilizer. (One factory plane had it underneath the fuselage just forward of the rudder!)
Somewhere, I MAY have read that it could be mounted just behind the door opening - BUT this may have been the Drug Enforcement Tag once required, and maybe is no longer needed - That may be your large tag? I believe the large tag has been replaced by the small tag.
I has to be steel, not aluminum, and riveted on - not screwed on.
All of this is in the FARs, (maybe Markings,FAR 45?), and there is no guarantee that the DAR knows them.

Try contacting the EAA or FAA for verification on the above.
And, Please post what you find out on here.

I left my off until the inspection because the DAR's have different ideas.  I told him where I would like it and he told me where to put.  Mine ended up on the baggage compartment door (Avid MK IV).  Drilled and riveted it in place while he was completing the inspection.  Specs say that it cannot be on a removable panel, door and etc but your DAR may not care.
