On the yahoo group there are pictures with dimensions, if you are using a truck to tow it, I have seen people just strap the tailwheel in the bed and go.

  5. Trackwelder added a post in a topic Wing Strut Wood

I believe after lookingat steve wittmans Buttercup and Tailwind Plans, that the Jury struts are taking the need for the wood fairings extra buckling strength out of the picture, I remember the amount of load that an unsupported Avid A model wing could take and believe that you could get away without the fairings. That said, the aerodynamics mean that some sort of fairing needs to be on there.

Let me know what the shipping and other costs are, and I will be happy to take them off of your hands, Hydraulic is the way I want to go, but I am so close to getting airborne that I will put it together with whatever parts I can get.
I was a professional welder but worked with heavier gage steel, as a hobby I have been welding lighter stuff, gas and Tig, If I had good pictures and a rough idea of measurents I could build them from what I have on hand.
I heard through the grapevine, that there was a brick building up in the rural part of Alaska that they shipped in the bricks using flat rate boxes, they were cheaper than anything else.

Thanks for the Drawing, I had a rough idea, but wasn't sure enough to bend the firewall without having pedals, I am using an E box so I do not have the starter at the rear. Nice artwork

I have the same style of fuselage, but I have a short inseam and am not really worried about leg room, did the firewall get bent out just below the motor mounts, or does it need to e lower for engine clearance?

B model Pedals will also work in fact any pedal for an Avid or Kitfox with cable brakes would do the job, I am sure I could build these on my own, but I would rather buy a set and adapt to hydraulics later, waiting on Pedals before I build my firewall, so If anyone can give me the height of where the bend for the firewall is at I would appreciate it.
Next warm day the cabin top and the turtle deck is being built, I will get to try out my 3 in one brake.

I had a cousin who lost his ticket for shooting at a rural stop sign, If he doesn't have any fear of losing his CFI certificate, he definitely doesn't belong teaching

The first person that says they have them and can give me a price and address gets a check, Upgraded my wing struts to 1 inch tubing, last modification from original that I want to do until it flies.

When I was working for the Union Pacific, our Gang was made up o about 50% Midwesterners, and when we were in LA, people were always hunting for the classic vehicles, I hauled back one 64.5 mustang that had never been outside of Riverside County in it's life. A true survivor but it only had the 6 cylinder, I was about 15 minutes late from buying it, but I still got my fuel paid for hauling it back.

I would gladly pay your expense and a reasonable amount for the pedals, I will eventually switch to Hydraulic Brakes, but am trying to finish this plane without anymore modifications, The rudder pedals and installing windows and some other sheet metal and I am done, After 10 years it is about time and with 3 grass strips I really only need brakes for taxiing so the cable brakes I have should do fine thank you.

I I still had them I could take a picture, but then I wouldn't need them They had little pieces of tubing that held the cable ends, I was hoping that someone else might be able to post a picture. My set developed legs while it was in the old hangar, now that I am in the new hangar and ready for reassembly I will have to make some.
I was going to go with hydrauliv brakes, but decided that I would go with the parts I have and do that conversion later.

  19. Trackwelder added a post in a topic Enclosed trailer for Mark IV Speedwing

I have a Dodge 1 ton and was getting away with a 3 ton plate, non-commercial use only. The state of Iowa just made me go to a 5 ton registration the truck weighs 9500 lbs empty. I have never been pulled over to be checked for weight in it. I used to drive oversized loads for the Union Pacific Railroad and it was rare when I didn't have over width height and weight, permits were not expensive but they always checked those trucks. I would not worry about it too much the only tie I had a disagreement with an officer was in Illinois in a half ton with a 10,000 lbs trailer but he finally gave up when he saw my classA license. They almost never have scales with them anyhow.

  22. Trackwelder added a post in a topic Neeed Help on ebay ad

I have been unloading a bunch of spare/ obsolete parts on ebay lately, and have found that the best way to list items is to do a search for what you have, and then do an advanced search for what has sold, by using that you get an idea of the prices they re bringing and in what category. You can use the sell one like this in the sold search and put it where things will sell the best. When buying I try and find things that have been listed wrong or in a inappropriate category, sometimes I have been able to triple my purchase price by finding something put in a category that no one else looks at. I bought a set of hegar wheels brakes and tires for under $50 because the person that sold them put them in the wrong category.

My mother is from Little Diomede, across the straight about a mile on Big Diomede that remained a Russian possession they pretty much packed everyone up and hauled them to the big cities, back in the 50's they use to walk back and forth across the ice to visit each other but then they started locking people up for doing that. By the way, I have been offered one of those houses for $5,000 but there is no access or place to put a plane.

  25. Trackwelder added a post in a topic Choice of radiators on 582

There is a guy selling Kitfox aluminum radiators on Ebay for under $300 and I may just try one, I am selling off a lot of my Haley parts on ebay and am actually looking like I might finish the Avid this spring, my firewall forward was set up with the larger radiator on the belly and was flown in the Midwest so it would probably do the job, I would prefe to have the Mark IV cowl just for looks, but I am not that rich yet.
