  1. Luked added a post in a topic CONTRIBUTIONS TO KEEP SITE GOING

    Hey Leni,

There are several sites I visit that require the external image hosting account. Not only is it a pain, but half the time when you go back to old posts, you find dead images. It's nice that we don't loose images here. Hopefully our contributions will get to the point that we cover those costs for you. I've already gotten a lot of information from this site I wouldn't have gotten anywhere else.

    Thanks again,
    Luke D.

  2. Luked added a post in a topic Broken Kitfox Drag Brace

I bought the brackets from Kitfox, and they are very nice. Top notch manufacturing, and plated (zinc or cad it looks like). The only thing I don't like is they are steel, and seem kind of heavy. I should weight them though. I could just about guarantee they won't be a point of failure though.

Looks like the drawing specifies 1025 steel. Most motor mounts I have heard of are 4130 though.

  4. Luked added a post in a topic Does a Kitfox wing fit on an Avid mk4 ???

    Hi Martin,

I am in the process of making changes to my MK IV to accept KF4 wings. From the information I have found, the wings are different as Jim mentioned, and the fuselage is also different. The spar carry throughs are 1" x .035" wall (larger on KF5/6). I don't remember the increase the strut carry through, but I could look that up.

Struts are also different, and attached at a different point.

That's a variation on the type I had in mind. Good to know you can get them from Spruce. I might have to get one of those crimpers.

Now that you mention it, I have been thinking things have been pretty quiet on here lately. He usually keeps things lively. Hope everything is okay.

  10. Luked added a post in a topic Unstarted Kitfox 4 kit for sale $5900

    Hi Bill,

I wouldn't mind an Avid with a 582, but I can't at this point. I don't have the spending money to buy another project at the moment. Part of the reason I said I wish I could get the KF (and I'm on the wrong side of the country ). Good luck with the sale. I saw it listed on BS.

I'm no electrical expert, but I always liked the looks of these:

They are used on some american cars, but I can't remember where I saw them. They are available with 2 to 6 pins, and have a weather tight seal. They are just plastic, so pretty light. I've never used them, but I plan to at some point.

Wow, wish I could get that one. I suspect it won't last too long. The kit looks very clean.

    Sounds good Jeff.

Hey Joey, I thought maybe you were  . Hope you find a good home for it. I almost wish I would have just gone for a stock Avid with a 582 for my first one. It would have been easier and cheaper. I'm too far into this one now though.

Sorry Joey, I just saw the post, and I've got these parts taking up space . I think your Avid would make someone a good project with the controls included with the fuse. If I didn't have a project already, I would consider it.

Jeff, I'll send you the paypal info tomorrow. I have to check my work computer. I think the post office is going to be the cheapest shipping. Our company ships with UPS, so we can check that too, but I think it will be more.

That sounds fair to me. I can take pictures of the the stick assembly if you want. They are basically as there came from the factory except for some extra dust. Everything has been stored indoors, so there is not rust on it as far as I can see.

I have no idea how to price something like this. I did pay a bit for the Avid kit though, and it would be nice to get something for the parts I'm not using. I see that an old style KF mixer was sold on here in the past:

    http://www.avidfoxflyers.com/index.php?/topic/888-flaperon-mixer-control-assembly/

It was listed for $350 + shipping. Not sure if that's what it sold for though. Let me know what you think would be fair. I wouldn't expect to get that much for it. I've also got a set of MK IV rudder pedals with hydraulic brakes that I'm not using. I'd like the keep the flaperon handle though to incorporate into the new design. My stick assembly will be up for grabs as well. It would work well with the flaperon mixer.

I would be interested in this too. I am putting KF wings on an Avid fuse, but when I went to measure some local Kitfoxes, they had the all moving HS. The angle of an Avid doesn't really help because the wing airfoil and angle are all different.

Here are some pictures, but they were with my cell phone, so not that great. The mixer is attached to the mounting tubes which I removed from the plane. I'm planning a different system. Both bell cranks are also attached. I could also include the other two pushrods that go to both of those bell cranks if that would help. I didn't think of that when I took the picture.

I've got one that I took out of my MK-IV. I would guess that it would be pretty compact to ship, but I'd have to take a look at it again. Do you need the pushrods too?

Really sorry to hear this. Hope you can get the plane back in flying shape with a reasonable amount of effort.

Hey Joey, thanks for going to the trouble to scan all that stuff in. It's interesting to read all that stuff (I've only had a chance to read parts of it so far). Helps shed some more light on the History of Avid. I liked looking at the old price lists too.
