  1. NorthIdahoAvidflyer added a post in a topic Pictures of MK IV radiator mounting?

Dav8or, I was reading through some of these posts and this thread caught my eye. I just purchased a Mark IV and it has the cowl type radiator set up. The seller told me the engine had cooling issues to the point that the engine had to be overhauled. I now have a never ran 582 and would like to keep this issue from happening again. Can you provide an update? Did you have the new aluminum radiators made and if so how did they work?
My set up looks stock and the radiators have no gap seal on the side to deflect more air into the radiators. Joey mentioned I may need to add the gap seals. I'd love to hear what works with this set up. I do fly in lower temperatures than most here in Northern Idaho but we do get some warm summer temps.
    Any input would be appreciated.
    Thank you

    New Avid Mark IV owner
Picked this Mark IV up out of California this weekend. Super clean and well built. It sat for a few years but looks very good with only some minor fixes. HH wing with double fails ribs and dual tanks. Fabric and paint looks great!! One aileron hangar needs repaired from the second owner not paying attention while folding the wing. Zero time SMOH and a new GSC three blade prop thats never been ran. It needs new brakes. Should have it ready to fly in a couple of weeks.

    Moving a Kitfox 3
We are getting ready to haul a Kitfox III and I need to know the inside diameter of the hole on the tail which is used to mount a tow bar to. I want to use this tube to secure the tail of the Aircraft to the trailer.
    Thank you

I finally got a picture to load to this site. Apparently the app I was trying to use is not photo friendly. I have been posting on the Yamaha site on Facebook but was asked to post here. I bought a 2004 RX-1 with 1200 miles on it. It took my three evenings to pull it out of the sled. I purchased an adapter from Teal which I've installed with a new C gearbox. This week I have been gearing up to build the engine mount. I managed to get the side rails built and installed. Now that I can load pictures to this site I will start sharing my progress. This is not going to be installed on an Avid or Kitfox but I hope you can use the information.

That cowled out real nice Marshawk. Is that a Subaru Cowl?
I got my Skytrax and C gearbox mounted on on my RX-1 engine this weekend. The instructions were staight forward and Teal was great about answering my many questions and providing input. I also recieved my wiring harness, exhaust flanges and engine mount parts.
I would love to hear about what propellers have proven to be effective on this set up or what others are planing to use.

I was on the phone first thing this morning and they are no longer available. I was told they had one coming in next week so I put it on back order. Guess we will see if that happens. Wish me luck.

I ran into Steve and Yee Haw 5 at the Arlington Airshow in Washington State last week. I spent some time talking with Steve and watched him fly twice. What an airplane! What a performer! That Yamaha is powerful and runs real smooth. It takes a little finesse to start without a clutch but it was a real strong sounding engine. Steve said once he got the bugs worked out he likes it. Two areas he fought were carb venting and exhaust. He said once he vented everything to a common point it worked. He said he changed the exhaust configuration 4 times before he got it to work right. He said it's running very strong now. He said its a stronger runner than his hopped up Rotax.

Here is a short video I took of Steve's plane starting. I have one of him flying that I'll post once my kid gets home with his phone. My phone went dead.

Thank you for the update Teal.  That's great news. Looking forward on hearing more and seeing a possibility video. I could not run a 80 inch prop on my application. 70 inches is common. That options would I have in the 70 inch realm?

Still waiting to see how this engine sounds with the carbs tunes property and to see how it looks cowled with 9 inches of prop center to top of engine offset. Steve very well could change the game for a lot of Experimental people if this Yamaha works well. Good luck Steve.

Teal, I've considered this combo for my Zenith 701 project. My only concern is how to cowl this engine for my application.  Im pretty sure a stock Zenith cowl will not work for this engine with as much off set at it has. I'm just going by looks and wonder if you can tell me what the off set is from center of the prop hub to the top of the engine. Also can you tell me what and how you plan on addressing this issue on your Kitfox. I see the Highlander is using it and wonder how they will fit a cowl over it. So many good little small four stroke engine out there which have been slanted to fit under our cowls. I would appreciate any thought you might share.
    Thank you

I took my flight training in a Merlin GT in 92 with a guy from Port Angeles, Washington. We flew that thing all over the country. The only thing I really remember about it was it was a handful on landing. It ruined me from flying a tail plane for years.

    spar extension rivets
The plans call for SS 43's rivets in the spar extentions. I can only find SS 44's in the kit. Missing parts? There would not be enough SS 44's if I did use them. If I need to order the right ones does anyone know the Aircraft Spruce part number for them?

    Thank you

Thank you for the reply. Ed I told the owner he might want to do some homework on installing the wing tip tanks. I personally would not install them but it's his plane. I'm just getting paid to build the wings.

    Thank you

    Fiberglass or Plastic fuel tanks?
I am building a set of wings for a guy's Avid Magnum. He has a set of large fiberglass tanks and a set of plastic tanks. The plastic tanks look to be 5 gallons a piece and there are 6 of them. He planned on either running the fiberglass as mains and two of the plastic tanks in each wingtip. He asked me if he should use the fiberglass tanks or use all six of the plastic tanks. I've heard of people having issues with the fiberglass tanks so I wanted to get some input.

If I were to use the plastic tanks I would need a plumbing diagram.

The plane with have an 0-320 for a power plant. I'm sure he will be running AV-GAS.

Thank you for any input you may provide. My name is Vance Simons. I live in Post Falls, Idaho. You can call or text me at (509) 599-9477. I do have photos I can send.

    Thank you
